Welcome to c/news! We aim to foster a book-club type environment for discussion and critical analysis of the news. Our policy objectives are:
-
To learn about and discuss meaningful news, analysis and perspectives from around the world, with a focus on news outside the Anglosphere and beyond what is normally seen in corporate media (e.g. anti-imperialist, anti-Zionist, Marxist, Indigenous, LGBTQ, people of colour).
-
To encourage community members to contribute commentary and for others to thoughtfully engage with this material.
-
To support healthy and good faith discussion as comrades, sharpening our analytical skills and helping one another better understand geopolitics.
We ask community members to appreciate the uncertainty inherent in critical analysis of current events, the need to constantly learn, and take part in the community with humility. None of us are the One True Leftist, not even you, the reader.
Newcomm and Newsmega Rules:
The Hexbear Code of Conduct and Terms of Service apply here.
-
Link titles: Please use informative link titles. Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed.
-
Content warnings: Posts on the newscomm and top-level replies on the newsmega should use content warnings appropriately. Please be thoughtful about wording and triggers when describing awful things in post titles.
-
Fake news: No fake news posts ever, including April 1st. Deliberate fake news posting is a bannable offense. If you mistakenly post fake news the mod team may ask you to delete/modify the post or we may delete it ourselves.
-
Link sources: All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. If you are citing a Twitter post as news, please include the Xcancel.com (or another Nitter instance) or at least strip out identifier information from the twitter link. There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance, such as Libredirect or archive them as you would any other reactionary source.
-
Archive sites: We highly encourage use of non-paywalled archive sites (i.e. archive.is, web.archive.org, ghostarchive.org) so that links are widely accessible to the community and so that reactionary sources don’t derive data/ad revenue from Hexbear users. If you see a link without an archive link, please archive it yourself and add it to the thread, ask the OP to fix it, or report to mods. Including text of articles in threads is welcome.
-
Low effort material: Avoid memes/jokes/shitposts in newscomm posts and top-level replies to the newsmega. This kind of content is OK in post replies and in newsmega sub-threads. We encourage the community to balance their contribution of low effort material with effort posts, links to real news/analysis, and meaningful engagement with material posted in the community.
-
American politics: Discussion and effort posts on the (potential) material impacts of American electoral politics is welcome, but the never-ending circus of American Politics© Brought to You by Mountain Dew™ is not welcome. This refers to polling, pundit reactions, electoral horse races, rumors of who might run, etc.
-
Electoralism: Please try to avoid struggle sessions about the value of voting/taking part in the electoral system in the West. c/electoralism is right over there.
-
AI Slop: Don't post AI generated content. Posts about AI race/chip wars/data centers are fine.
As yes nuking a territory right next to your own holdings that you intend to occupy after conquering. Surely settlers will want to move into irradiated land and the winds will never blow east towards Tel Aviv!
Fascists aren't even good at doing fascism, Jesus!
it's an important distinction, between Christian-Zionism and Israeli-Zionism that seems to be lost or purposely obscured by democrats:
imagine forming a coalition with the heavily armed and powerful people who pray for your eternal torment.
I've had a couple of frustrating experiences lately trying to explain what a vile, empty mockery of religion Christian Fascists are and to no one's surprise Europeans who have never dealt with them face to face are unable to accept my explanations and insist that i'm mistaken and there must be hidden depths and human sentiment there.
Lol, lmao
I... would still consider that fascism.
Regardless, I would think even then he'd understand why Israel wouldn't want to nuke something right next to them. Fuck why not advocate for nuking Iran that at least seems a bit more plausible and just as likely to lead to the end times.
I find it so weird that Evangelicals want to BRING ABOUT the apocalypse. Plenty of other religions believe in an "end time", but you don't see this kind of behavior from Jews, Muslims or even most older Christian sects. They all accept God is a being so powerful and all knowing that understanding his grand plans is impossible and you are just gonna have to accept the end times will come about when God wills it and just live you life as best you can till them.
Evangelicals want to be able to not just predict, but incite the apocalypse. Like what if they think they don't put the leg work in Gods grand plan is gonna get totally derailed and reality will have to keep chugging along a few thousand years past schedule? Gods gonna be PISSED if I don't get the US to nuke Iran, it will fuck up his whole timetable!
Christian Fascism is defined by almost complete lack of theology or scholarship, and for being extremely schismatic to a farcical degree. It's a religion of the id, of the pure libido of the American white suburban aggrieved peitit boug psychopath. It's all about petty greed and spite and personal wish fulfillment.
It also runs completely counter to the stated goal of their religion
The bible is pretty clear that the end time is unknowable and until then humans have to be good stewards of the planet. Trying to bring about the apocalypse isn't exactly good stewardship
milennarianism requires the twinge of new developments to get the ball rolling, but once it starts 'you can't expect god to do all the work' and 'we need to prepare' apocalyptic ideology start mixing together & spawning actual activist tendencies. this is where you get people selling all their belongings, long distance pilgrimage/migration, novel social organization, and for people with state power, an exercise of it (usually on vulnerable people).
so in this case evangelicals haven't been constantly on an israel apocalypse fever for the 200 or so years whereever you wana peg 'evangelicalism', but it springs from the simple existence of israel which checks one of the prophetic boxes in their interpretation, and then right now they're having a war & spiked the interest because they think there's a bigger opportunity. a couple years ago in the slow apartheid stage of the conflict, evangelicals didn't have the same excitement. unless Lindsey Graham was banging a proliferation drum for the past decade, his statement demonstrates this.
There is a specific passage in, I believe the post-gospel books of the New Testament (but it could be in the gospels but I'm pretty sure it's in Acts or the Letters) it specifically says "you can't predict the time of the return of the Messiah, it might be tomorrow, it might be in a hundred years. YOU WILL NOT KNOW so you must live by Jesus's teachings right now and always not just in the moments leading up to his return. You aren't going to min/max the apocalypse, yo."
Of course evangelicals don't give a shit about this. Doesn't stop them from trying to force God's hand or whatever. Fucking goons. The rapture isn't even in the fucking Bible, either.
Appreciate the exact quote, thanks for digging that up
I think they're trying to usher in the apocalypse in order to validate their own fucked up worldview.
They do that too
He did: https://news.antiwar.com/2023/12/28/sen-lindsey-graham-calls-for-us-to-blow-parts-of-iran-off-the-map/
Palestinians are just an inconvenience.

I doubt he even believes that Christofascist line.
I figure he just promotes it for his base.
