I'm not a gun guy and I've been lazy (I only read the very short article) but to me it seems like a 10/10 "What the fuck were they thinking?" screw up by the Secret Service.

I was sympathetic because 130 yards, while not crazy hard, is a not-insignificant shot to make with a handgun, especially under stress.
Then I read apparently he was using a rifle? Shame. He will not see heaven, he must first spend a thousand years in the sea of reeds, firing at the broad sides of ghost barns.
Eternal underworld target shooting does sound like an okay afterlife actually
