[watch it be the collapse of the USSR 2.0 next year, fine and over with before anyone knows what's going on]

They're giving it away for free

[-] spectre@hexbear.net 1 points 3 days ago

It could, but there's "room" for this sort of thing as long as valve spends their political capital wisely. Now they need to lay low for a few years.

[-] spectre@hexbear.net 1 points 5 days ago

It's not true that it was "a part"?

[-] spectre@hexbear.net 1 points 5 days ago

This attitude is part of what generated Chapo and the "dirtbag left"

[-] spectre@hexbear.net 15 points 6 days ago

Not really. "Deserved" is probably too strong of phrasing, I'd probably say "the US had 9/11 coming" myself, but the sentiment is about the same.

As of today, your local "progressive" libs are ready to hear that the Democrats are going to take them nowhere but loserville. If they care about protecting vulnerable populations like they say they do (most are genuine), then it's time to get serious about other options. We have 4 years to draw something up and it starts today.

Surely they already know you as something of a politics nerd if you post here. They are probably looking to you for an indication if you weren't too smug about "I'm not voting cause it doesn't matter" for the last 6 weeks (not advised). The existing socialist parties are somewhere between problematic and just too much for your well-meaning friends to sign up for (are you even a member yourself, liberal?).

One way to kick things off is to demonstrate some Democratic Centralism.

  • Find 2 people you have very few fundamental disagreements with. Especially if they can be like "yeah, socialism, lets make our community more like Sweden".
  • "We are now the socialist party of [Libtown, USA], consisting of three members, somebody design us a T-shirt or something".
  • Then you start working through it. Write down a few bylaws, but be clear about your commitment to your comrades. "I'll vote for Kamala Harris 100x if that's what the party decides democratically, but also I really, really, don't think we should do that".
  • This is all a great opportunity to educate, discuss politics, study/teach theory, and build bonds with political allies.
  • Hopefully you get past being a 4 person book club and do some volunteering with your growing squad of 10 members.
  • The endgame is that your mini-party will eventually be mature enough to vote to merge or have an official relationship with an actual substantial political party. Could be a merger with PSL or something, could be a merger with the dozen folks doing the same thing over in [Libville], the next town over.

This is organizing, this is praxis. It starts off as some nerd shit over a round of drinks, but it's at least an attempt to wield a bit of political power while also bringing more people into the fold. Your position is strong right now.

This is the talking point. The "dirtbag left" is dead. We need to quash our irony and take advantage of the moment.

Get serious and talk to your liberals this week.

Inb4 whining about TikTok in general, nobody cares

  • @cloudcloutclaud - thorough content about the current LGBT scene in the PRC, culturally and legally. People often ask questions and struggle sesh about this, this is the person you want to be hearing from instead of the Anglos digging up secondhand info here (not that it's all that bad).

  • @circusfaery33 - a true poster who would fit right in here. Shreds the libs about how voting for Biden doesn't matter. Consistent, high effort, thorough responses to even troll comments. We love to see it.

On brand, but I guess SpaceX has no path to profitability (go figure), so Starlink has to launch thousands of microsatellites every year cause their orbit is so low that they burn up like right away

I didn't really have high expectations for them of course but they are way below the bar of what even Tesla brings to the table.

UlyssesT takes a break and then Kissinger dies immediately.... What does it all mean?

[-] spectre@hexbear.net 73 points 1 year ago

No, that wasn't missed. Israel has willingly created the environment where these sort of uprising occur. I don't support killing random civilians, but under the current system, it's what's bound to happen.

The Chinese government stacks the cards though it actually has the capability to use some toothpicks to hold them in place, and will immediately rebuild it things start to fall apart.

To contrast, the US will flounder and pull their one "low interest rates" lever while having a political blowout over some sort of stimulus funding package that probably won't pass.

Cast Away [2000] (hexbear.net)
submitted 2 years ago by spectre@hexbear.net to c/movies@hexbear.net

What is up with this movie? Just watched it recently and it's aged incredibly poorly imo

It's been well established that Tom Hanks is a CIA asset, and we've had a handful of threads about how Forrest Gump sucks this year, and it definitely bleeds into Cast Away as well.

  • The "end of history" moment right at the beginning of the movie, where FedEx brings "freedom" to post-USSR Russia.
  • The whole film is just an ad for FedEx
  • I know things need to look good on film, but decades later, a lot of the survival scenes are simply unconvincing. The firemaking setup didn't look particularly efficient, and the wood didn't really look worn or charred as though it were starting to smolder, it just kinda happens. Same for the idea of throwing a fishing spear, which may happen, but I've never heard of that being successful.
  • Hanks going full Boomer-mode with his mental math in a few scenes kinda felt like it had a tone of "yeah they don't teach this stuff in schools anymore, this is how it's done 😔 "
  • The conclusion was drawn out and boring af, just watching him stand idly at a crossroads for like 15 minutes or something. His interactions with his love interest felt uncompelling.
  • Goes for just about any Tom Hanks movie, but it's like the whitest shit I've ever seen. Watching a PMC bossman try and open a coconut and the movie is acting like there's some sort of supreme ingenuity to it.

Idk I'm probably being over the top, so please pile on or tell me to chill out about it or whatever.
