Israel Defense Forces tells Ireland and Unifil to remove peacekeepers from Lebanese border outpost Irish Times, Oct 4 2024

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has told Ireland to remove its peacekeepers from an outpost on the border with Lebanon as its invasion of the country continues.

Sources confirmed the request was made to the headquarters of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (Unifil) and individual countries contributing troops, including Ireland. Israel has been told the troops will remain in place.

edit: this part is probably also worth highlighting

There is one Irish outpost on the Lebanese-Israeli border, which is known as the Blue Line. This outpost, designated post 6-52, is manned by a single Irish platoon who are responsible for observing the border and reporting on incursions.

if you go to the harris-walz merch store and begin scrolling down you can actually see the right-wing shift in the democratic party. all the lgbt stuff, like the kamala pride stickers, are hangovers from the old biden merch store. any of the bi and trans flag stuff that the biden store would sell is nowhere in sight. even the 'control guns not girls' is a biden antique. apart from a few reproductive rights items, the new harris-waltz stuff doesn't convey anything resembling a political message or vision. they're instead offering the most uninspiring campaign logo imaginable, a merch line with the slogan 'yes she can', another with 'when we fight we win', and some camo stuff that feels like its made to appeal to conservative voters. it's all very dull and visually unappealing.

for comparison, this is what the biden-harris merch store looked like in november 2020:

Palestine to apply for BRICS membership after upcoming Kazan summit (Anadolu Ajansi, 26.08.2024)

Russian state news agency TASS quoted the Palestinian ambassador to Moscow, Abdel Hafiz Nofal, as saying that Palestine will lodge its application for joining BRICS after attending the summit.

"Russian President Vladimir Putin promised that one session would be fully devoted to Palestine," the Palestinian ambassador said.[...]

"This invitation means that despite all the crimes, killings and destruction in the Gaza Strip, our message is that Palestine wants to live and to develop," Ambassador Nofal added.

vibes-based reporting: i've been browsing r/fauxmoi today, a reddit-logo celebrity gossip sub that's been very pro-palestine but extremely 🌴🥥 pilled since biden crossed the west wing bridge (rip). now though, after the grim spectacle the DNC put on, the mood is souring. all the most upvoted electoralism posts are back to be critical of kamala and the democrats, with people starting to realize that maybe she's not be the fun aunt they can project all their political hopes and dreams onto.

Based Tariq we love to see it. Respect to anyone still talking about Palestine and not jumping on the embarrassing circus that this week has been while children are having their heads blown off (600+ upvotes)

it really seems the democrats have done a great job of killing off the good-vibe momentum they had going for them. literally snatching defeat from the jaws of victory <3

brat summer has come to an end; we're entering fight song fall.

the specter of joever lives on.

This issue of the international edition of Wenhua Zongheng (文化纵横) explores the widely debated topic of de-dollarisation. The articles examine the US dollar’s hegemonic status in the international economic order, efforts across the Global South to develop alternatives, and the role of the BRICS in this process.

in the documentary she also just casually admits that she used to 'spit on arabs and such' as a teenager (with no follow up questions from the israeli woman interviewing her)

"So what does it mean that a child doesn't get a hot meal in Austria? Do you know what the cheapest hot meal in Austria is? It's not healthy, but it's cheap: a hamburger at McDonald's — €1.40, if I buy fries with it, €3.50. Now someone is seriously claiming that we live in a country where parents can't afford this meal for their child," he said.

"If I have too little money, I go to work more," he added in the video, which was filmed during a wine-and-cheese event near Salzburg — with no burgers in sight — his conservative People's Party confirmed to Plus24.

i hope he chokes to death on a piece of rotten cheese in his wine cave

the whole game is based around haggling and it has made me hate the concept of money more than even losing at monopoly can (another essential communist game)

We are herbivores in a world of carnivores. It is a power politics world, yet we still have in mind that through trade and preaching the rule of law we can have influence on the world. We must still preach the rule of law but we have to be aware there are some leaders that need to be dealt with in a different way.”

. . .

Borrell predicted the war in Ukraine, and the eventual outcome, would be one of the three driving forces creating a new world order, alongside competition between China and the US, and the rise of the global south.

He admitted he was no fan of the term “global south” to describe such a heterogeneous group of people but that an entity existed that “consider themselves part of an alternative to the western models”. He said it was critical to “try to avoid the alliance of China plus Russia, plus parts of the global south.

“The people of the global south want to be recognised because 40, 50 years ago, when the world order was built, some of these countries did not exist. Either they were colonies or so poor they did not have a vote.

“So now they are independent countries and they have been growing economically, demographically, and they want to have a say.”

He added: “Understandably these countries are hedging. One day they look at Russia , another at China. At the UN they vote against the war in Ukraine but many of them do not have this feeling of moral indignation that we have.”

From OpIndia (archived link)

In a new low of diplomacy, the Ukrainian advisor to the President of the war-hit country made bizarre claims about India and China in an interview that came days after the successful organization of the G20 summit in Delhi. Mykhailo Podolyak said, “What’s wrong with India, China, and so forth? The problem is that they are not analyzing the consequences of their steps, these countries have weak intellectual potential, unfortunately.”

Mykhailo Podolyak further said, “Yes, they invest in science. Yes, India has launched a lunar rover presently and is now trekking on the surface of the Moon, but that does not indicate that this country fully comprehends what the modern world is about.”

sorry for more submarine posting but...

The submersible was engineered specifically with this sort of expedition in mind and with the help of NASA. It's probably one of the most technologically advanced private submersibles in the world.
