After humming and hawing about it ever since the Reddit API migration, I decided that if I wanted to see it on Lemmy I really should make it so.

!Weightroom@sh.itjust.works

One of the things that I missed the most from Reddit was the strength training subs, as they were great motivation to stay consistent, and the occasional program parties were a lot of fun. A bunch of folks trying to get through super squats and drinking a gallon of whole milk per day made for some pretty interesting workout reports.

I have not traditionally been a community builder in the past, but I believe there is big a gap in the Fediverse where strength training should be.

Its just getting off the ground so too early to say how its going. But I have picked up a lot of valuable info from this sub and the others on the sidebar, thanks for that

You know how you might see a meme community? And when you click, there's a good chance it's actually a political opinion over an image? Or a plea for help? Or horny-posting? Or things that just make you sad and feel hopeless?

Do you just want good, fun, nice memes with no risk to your mental well-being, because you just want to see something fun and/or nice?

It's here!!

!NiceMemes@sopuli.xyz

Please join me in posting some "nicer" content and contributing to a more fun & positive atmosphere!

We need to have more fun. (:

I know of these communities, but they are not very active

Do you know any other streetart related communities? How can we get more activity here? Somebody got an archive of graffiti photos?

I only got a couple of graffiti photos but am undecided which community might be the best to post them in.

Meant to replace r/gamingsuggestions in spirit. Noticed !games@lemmy.world getting a decent amount of posts asking for gaming suggestions, figured having a dedicated community for them might be nice. (And if not, I can still collect and link to those posts for anyone wanting Lemmy-sourced game recommendations!)

Carl Sagan was a humanist who strived to teach science as a way of thinking and interpreting the world. His 1995 book The Demon-Haunted World: Science as a Candle in the Dark was a kind of message he left to humanity before he died of cancer.

Absolute Units on Lemmy (sh.itjust.works)
submitted 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) by nekothegamer@sh.itjust.works to c/communitypromo@lemmy.ca

Yeah you read the title right, i created an unofficial clone of the r/AbsoluteUnits subreddit, in an attempt to make it the home for it in the threadiverse.

!absoluteunit@sh.itjust.works

The premise is simple: an absolute unit is something, either an animal, person or object, that is really large, way more large than someone would expect. Things like massive dogs, buildings, statues, and the like. Basically, anything that can be bigger than it usually is, is an absolute unit. In the rules there’s a link to a more detailed explanation.

So yeah! it’s pretty simple. If you have a picture or a video of something larger than normal, you can share it there!

Hope you like it!!

hey everyone, i present to you !notinteresting@sh.itjust.works, an attempt to recreate the chaos that is r/notinteresting but here on Lemmy.

Basically how it works, you post something that is seemingly uninteresting but you sneak in a tiny little detail that makes it more intriguing, but the point is to act like it's nothing at all, while the people in the comments get weirded out trying to understand what's going on in your image

it's not really an exact explanation since it's very hard to put to words, so if you want a better understanding of what i mean I'd suggest you visit the original subreddit so you understand better what i intend to say.

wanted to try this since it was tried before here on lemmy.world but it never took of, so I'm looking to try my own attempt to make this idea more popular on the threadiverse

hope you like it!

List more in the comments! I'll add them if they are a community for a video game genre, and have had at least one post in the last month. Crossposted to !games@lemmy.world here.

I also found some genres with dead communities. Maybe someone would like to revive one, or make a new one (preferably on a smaller instance than lemmy.world)?

On my search for communities to put here I found some genres seem to be wholly missing. Let me know if I missed something!

  • MMOs
  • open world/sandbox
  • RPGs that don't really fit in CRPG or JRPG
  • shooters (think FPS, hero shooters, literally any shooting game that does not fit in the shmup/shoot-em-up genre)
  • simulation in general
  • sports
  • stealth

I've previously seen people describe dating a person with ADHD as "Microdosing Wikipedia" and I thought that was a fun idea so I figured I would make a community dedicated to that specifically.

The idea is to post either random or interesting articles you find on any wiki (Doesn't actually have to be wikipedia so a games/fandoms wiki would also be included) and people can discuss the content or the subject of the article.

It's just a small space for people to learn about stuff that they have no reason to learn about otherwise.

This is a no-agenda less moderated climate change community. Moderation power is not abused and mods do not suppress ideas in order to control the narrative.

Obvious spam, uncivil posts, and misinformation are not immune to intervention, but on-topic civil posts are certain to not be subject to censorship (unlike the excessive intervention we see in the other climate community).

Share news and information about climate change without fear of getting banned for pointing out the cow in the room.

No social media site can exist without a section dedicated to trackballs, the arguably superior input method.

The previous communities went stale, so here is my take on it. Looking forward to welcoming the tens of people interested in this topic!

!gamedev@lemmy.world

Hi all. I took over this community several months ago as the previous owner disappeared (as many do, no judgment.) Now I'm trying to regularly share news that is relevant for both developers and hobbyists. (Studio news, software milestones, talks, interesting columns/posts, etc.) I think I’ve done an okay job, but it’s still pretty low in search results when you search “gamedev Lemmy”, so I'm adding it here in case any of you out there are interested in the field.

I got here from a thread asking for smaller communities trying to replace subreddits, but I'd point out that I used to hang in an IRC chat with some r/gamedev mods, and they were cool. I even made pals with one of them. I just don’t trust Reddit as a company. So this is my way of trying to facilitate a healthy option, and follow the adage of “the grass is greener where you water it”.

So if you’re into video game development and the industry around it, feel free to join!
