[-] take_five_moments@hexbear.net 50 points 6 days ago

teeth AND food?? dream big ig

[-] shath@hexbear.net 16 points 6 days ago

teeth do be a luxury

[-] happybadger@hexbear.net 8 points 6 days ago

That's only if I get the permanent version of my job instead of the seasonal 0 hour contract version. Then I get to keep my bones while doing the same work for $40k/year. Right now I'm rentmaxxing with strategic food.

Gen Z is graduating college with jobs?

[-] eyyImwalkin@hexbear.net 17 points 6 days ago

Gen Z still has the attention span necessary to graduate high school?

[-] Belly_Beanis@hexbear.net 18 points 6 days ago

tbh us millenials didn't have much of an attention span in high school. We were all hornyposting via notes passed between each other (since not everyone had a cell phone) and had to have books with bright, colorful pictures in them. Good luck getting us to read something with black and white diagrams or just nothing but text.

[-] knfrmity@lemmygrad.ml 18 points 6 days ago

I had a great attention span in high school. Played Minecraft for hours in class on my school issued laptop.

[-] Belly_Beanis@hexbear.net 14 points 6 days ago

My school didn't have laptops. Any room with multiple computers we would install Bolo on since it was never blocked by the filter/parental controls. Except the actual computer lab because our programming teacher knew about emulators and also played Bolo when it was still new.

Is it true young people are becoming more right-wing or is that just the media trying to start generational warfare bullshit?

[-] Dimmer06@hexbear.net 58 points 6 days ago

Iirc in many countries young men are becoming more right wing while other young people are going further left.

[-] Dirt_Owl@hexbear.net 34 points 6 days ago
[-] StalinIsMaiWaifu@lemmygrad.ml 69 points 6 days ago

Because they are unable to live up to the expectations patriarchal society sets on us and rather than realize the society is bullshit, double down on it and decide it's other peoples fault.

[-] Des@hexbear.net 44 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

this is why i am putting off public transition. i have like 5 zoomer men under my wing that look up to me as what they see, which is an elder millennial chad guy who makes leftist thought appealing and masculine as well as push collective ethics into their heads

i was their boss at first, now just another co-worker and they respect me as that person, even if it's just an act.

kind of sucks but i made this call because of this crisis

[-] drunkenmonkie2@lemmygrad.ml 6 points 5 days ago

Fuck them. You should transition for yourself, not for other people. Unless its not safe to do so, then I guess you know best.

[-] Des@hexbear.net 2 points 1 day ago

Not safe. But it was one factor into my decision to boost my morale.

[-] Robert_Kennedy_Jr@hexbear.net 31 points 6 days ago

Having the plague for a few years during a formative time in their lives and having a ton of time to get sucked into YouTube rabbit holes that invariably start recommending conservative content had a big part to play.

[-] Xiisadaddy@lemmygrad.ml 37 points 6 days ago

Its not accidental. The money and effort spent in the last 10 years to make young men go ultra right wing is HUGE. Like billions of dollars. A lot of social media sites like youtube have entirely changed theor algorithms so ig you look at any video game content your gonna get reccomended literal nazi shit.

[-] Robert_Kennedy_Jr@hexbear.net 9 points 6 days ago

Yeah I'm aware it's an intentional effort that's easily reproducible when someone makes a fresh account and sees how quickly they start getting clips with Andrew Tate or Asmongold saying having empathy is weakness.

[-] Xiisadaddy@lemmygrad.ml 15 points 6 days ago

I literally looked up a video the other day to see if my performance issues in oblivion remaster (which i pirated cuz some awesome people cracked it like instantly) were just a linux thing, and it seems like a normal video talking about bad performance then half way thru they start throwing out anti-trans dog whistles. Putting up screen shots of trans characters in a game and being like "But this game has other issues".

So of course i switch off the video dislike it and am like wtf. Click on another similar video and NOT ONLY is it also anti-trans but the script is WORD FOR WORD the same as the last video. Like they were both given the same script to make a video with. Now could one of them have just copied the others video? I guess. But it makes me think its like the whole sinclair broadcasting thing where all the local news anchors say the same stuff cuz they answer to the same parent company.

[-] CarlMarks@lemmygrad.ml 17 points 6 days ago

They lose the most status under current social changes and are therefore a vulnerable demographic for reactionary propaganda. And there's plenty of reactionary propaganda for them to plug into and very little focused on them that runs counter to it, let alone gets promoted by social media companies. Reactionary forces are just doing good marketing, basically. It's also not like everyone else is getting a great political education or has coherent beliefs in liberation or humanism, they just aren't the status gaining group on which this propaganda works, they're the groups scapegoated by reaction and when alienated will naturally oppose their bullies.

[-] Pentacat@hexbear.net 17 points 6 days ago

Sorry, I tried. I realized society was bullshit and I had sex, but no other men followed me.

[-] SkingradGuard@hexbear.net 26 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

and I had sex

Honestly as funny as this is, it's not really true...I haven't touched someone in like 6 years and I'm not a Nazi. It's more than this.

[-] Dirt_Owl@hexbear.net 16 points 6 days ago

My money is on it being a mix of the algorithm promoting right-wing shit and an ineffectual centrist liberalism being associated with the left.

[-] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 10 points 6 days ago

I haven't touched someone in like 6 years and I'm not a Nazi. It's more than this.

there's a fork in the road and it's down to whether you think women are people or chattel.

[-] mendiCAN@hexbear.net 28 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

Imma guess that there are plenty of young ppl moving left but like always the right wing-ey media erase the left

[-] vegeta1@hexbear.net 34 points 6 days ago

Not sure but the gender divide in terms of political alignment seems to be getting more stark.

[-] jackmaoist@hexbear.net 17 points 6 days ago

In India the young are full on fash now. Liberals and Leftists exist in some elite circles but the majority is trash.

[-] Horse@lemmygrad.ml 14 points 6 days ago

depends on nationality, class, sub-class, etc.

[-] invo_rt@hexbear.net 12 points 6 days ago

It's specifically young men that are becoming more right wing. I heard some poll numbers last week since Trump's approval ratings are tanking. Controlling for male vs female, Gen Z has the biggest gap with 45% of men supporting Trump and 24% of women doing the same in the 18-29 age bracket.

Tbh the COVID shutdown had serious reverberations through the culture that are going to be with us for the rest of our lives. People shouldn't have been exposed to that much internet.

[-] dat_math@hexbear.net 37 points 6 days ago

What shutdown? Do you mean the mass infection events that were constantly happening in bars through 2020 and 2021 followed by the liberal capitulation and peeling off of the already rarely followed public health advice?

[-] ThermonuclearEgg@hexbear.net 16 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

There was like a couple weeks where some people were forced to work and school remotely and that was horrible, check your privilege sweaty smuglord amerikkka-clap the-democrat

P.S. Preaching to the choir here, but more people should wear masks even though we're more than 5 years in... even if you don't care about others' health, there are other benefits to wearing them hexbear-direct-action

[-] CTHlurker@hexbear.net 17 points 6 days ago

Most countries did try to prevent the plague slightly more than the US did. The "shutdown" was probably more about schools being closed for a few weeks/months and young men getting turned insane by youtube propaganda / anti-woke grifters.

[-] SovietyWoomy@hexbear.net 42 points 6 days ago

If minimum wage kept up with productivity, cost of living, and corporate greed it would be over $100 per hour, over $200,000 per year for a 40 hour per week job. Gen Z needs to raise their expectations.

[-] LaughingLion@hexbear.net 33 points 6 days ago

I'm a millennial college grad who has never made more than $50k per year.

[-] ThermonuclearEgg@hexbear.net 12 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

Incidentally, this is considered average (median, not mean which falsely weights higher earners) income in the US according to the figures at https://lisep.org/ (annualized has been selected in these images):

I'm wondering whether the figures for degrees also have some representation of skew towards higher earners who tend to have them.

[-] TraschcanOfIdeology@hexbear.net 14 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

I don't think the higher degree figures paint a very representative picture. Many non-stem (and some stem) PhDs pay really badly if you're not employed by evil corps. But that can be the case for many professions, too so idk.

Bro, we don’t even expect to have jobs at all.

Besides. When are we going to talk about how business owners expect gen Z grads to all be Ivy League Valedictorians with years of experience…and still want to flip burgers for their picky ass for minimum wage?

I don’t want to hear shit about dunking on gen Z when we’re also so apparently awesome that you can graduate with a degree and STILL be “unqualified” for internships.

Lmao their actual reported amount is still a shitton more than I make and I have a fuckin degree. A useless one, but one none the less!

[-] came_apart_at_Kmart@hexbear.net 13 points 6 days ago

any analysis of income in the US is kinda butt cheeks without geography / cost of living (aka social reproduction) brought in.

when 33-50% of what most people deposit goes right back out just so they can have somewhere behind a locked door to set their shit down at night and wash their ass... there's enough variability in what they actually make after baseline shelter, food, healthcare, required transport, and debt servicing for the amount on the paycheck to be obscured what's going on.

[-] Blep@hexbear.net 11 points 6 days ago

Even in tech ppl are starting to offer like $60k, for the ppl who can even find anything. Like Amazon is not offering 6 figures from the gate anymore

[-] drippylilkitten@hexbear.net 9 points 6 days ago

I GRADUATE IN A FEW WEEKS HAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHA agony-deep
