Some people just want to see the world burn. Or at least just a famous landmark.
Burning church = burning a person, ok.
It's fine. They're twitter users.
Spannish people thought that we french loved this building so much that after the big r/place they harassed french streamers just by sending pictures of it burning. It lasted multiple years, but streamers were more amused than they were annoyed
I mean, they're not wrong. It looks stunning.
More like incensetive 😂
She was the light of our lives!
Heavy smoker though.
My Haitian buddy said that it is a shame that Notre Dame was where the fire stopped
I was going to ask why. Took me a minute, OK?!
Brutal colonialism. That said the building didn't do anything to you, put the displeasure where it belongs ie. The government.
Buildings are symbols, and symbols have power.
A symbol the people paid for directly in this case. Don't burn down your own property, burn down the people in powers property.
Nobody talked about deliberately burning down Notre Dame now, did they?
But I can't hold it against the victims of colonialism if they take joy in symbols of their oppressors burning down.
My Haitian buddy said that it is a shame that Notre Dame was where the fire stopped
No one said they did, I said it's not ok to revel in willful property destruction especially if you know Notre Dame is on and island surrounded by houses and businesses not government buildings.
Eh, can't fault the victims of colonialism for thinking this way.
Oh no, my religious building clutches pearls and threatens your mother
Just what Jesus would have done.
To be fair this is much more than just a church, it is a national icon and cultural heritage. Imagine the ungodly things americans would reply in a tweet saying this about the burning statue of liberty
Completed: 1345
Twice as old as USA.
“No way copper burns like that”
Jet fuel doesn't burn hot enough!!!
/S
Okay the other one then, the oval office building.
I'd be more ok with it if the current occupants were still inside when it did burn.
What is it with Americans and office buildings in unusual shapes anyway?
I see u 🐸
Imagine the ungodly things americans would reply in a tweet saying this about the burning statue of liberty
if it happened today we'd probably celebrate lmao
I do see your point though

Terrible things can be beautiful in their own way. It doesn't necessarily mean it's something they are glad happened (though that "pleasing" admittedly doesn't look great). Have you never found the visual of something horrible captivating? Where you just can't look away?

Why go with a fictional event when 9/11 is right there? Of which I'm sure much more insensitive things the have been said about as well.
I certainly understand the sentiment, but I am also sensible enough to not proclaim that to the whole world in such an emotional situation. Naturally affected people are gonna be pissed and will interpret the statement in the worst possible way.
For the fictional event, I actually hadn't considered that because it would mean a center of commerce is the american equivalent of a national icon.
The "thousands of lives lost" part tends to hike up the level of tragedy over the "center of commerce" aspect for most people...
Don't worry Merica got even for it...
At least we all know that Saudi Arabia was thoroughly punished for it!
All the dead Iraqis and Afghans, we are even now 🤡
Lost Our hegemony over it too!
Bin Laden tatally didn't get what he wanted out of it
Yep, thats americans for you. The white house has been burned down before, and id pay to watch someone fly a plane into the statue of liberty. I bet it'd fuck the plane up way worse than the statue, but the statue isnt going to be undamaged. The spectacle would be cool, and the only people here that would be really pissed are the super patriotic ones, and those financially invested in the statue. For the first group, to be patriotic currently means you are completely brain dead, as there is nothing in americas past or present to be proud of. As for the second group, unless they are working a tourist stall, then that would really only effect the bigwigs, and everyone else would rejoice at their bottom line being effected.
Now if you were to blow up a school or the wtc, that would actually effect people more than it would effect the rich, and therefore most americans would be rightfully pretty pissed.
Je vais cramer ta mère on va voir si c'est captivant
Saying that it's aesthetically pleasing to see a historic building on fire is sure to get some harsh responses because that is what smooth brain posts typically do.
Ik very anti religion, but I'm normal enough to understand that it's a historic and monument building that should be preserved. It being on fire is a tragedy and if during tragedies you start making fun of said tragedy then you shouldn't play sad boy because someone told you to fuck off
Have you considered that it could not be making fun of it but rather them genuinely thinking it's aesthetically pleasing? Because I kinda agree those photos look great.
Also the concept that something historic HAS to be preserved isn't universal across all cultures, even though it's very common. Personally I think it's nice trying to do that, but things will eventually be destroyed and that's how it goes, might as well find some beauty in it.
Reactions like that aren't unexpected but they do make me think the responder is an idiot anyway
A castle in my city burned down maybe a few years ago. To me, it was just a tourist spot but my friends who live in another parts of the country were asking me if I was alright and showed me support by donating for its reconstruction efforts (even though I never donated a penny).
So, I was pretty surprised how I got a more sentimental than I thought I ever would when I saw the images of the castle burning and seeing the rubble in-person.
What I'm trying to say is, I would imagine people who have real emotional and spiritual connection to a landmark would take something like the girl's comments quite personally. The French guy's reaction might be a bit overkill, but the girl is definitely being insensitive. Even if she genuinely found it pleasing, she should have just kept it to herself or maybe phrased it better.
Yo mama will shine like a star!
(The critical mass will start fusion reactions & outshine the Sun, kill us all)
Gotta admit, that top-right pic is something, not sure what, but it's impactful even not knowing what building it was.
Translation is actually "fuck" not burn. I've seen the latter done artistically. Mom puts on a good show.
Crâmer is not fuck, it's torch.
I think its stuff, more specifically. But it is slang, and could be different in my country.
French person here telling you cramer is French slang for torch / burn. You may be confusing this with the English word "to cram" which does mean to stuff. Different language.
And then they will tell everyone they speak the real french
Well, if she starts smoking, add more lube.
