Walter Rodney, born in Guyana on 22nd of march in 1942, Pan-African, Marxist intellectual who was assassinated by the Guyanese government in 1980 at 38 years old.

Rodney attended the University College of the West Indies in 1960 and was awarded a first class honors degree in History in 1963. He later earned a PhD in African History in 1966 at the School of Oriental and African Studies in London, England, at the age of 24.

Rodney traveled extensively and became well-known as an activist, scholar, and formidable orator. He taught at the University of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania from 1966-67 and 1969-1974, and in 1968 at his alma mater University of the West Indies.

On October 15th, 1968, the government of Jamaica declared Rodney a "persona non grata" and banned him from the country. Following his dismissal by the University of the West Indies, students and poor people in West Kingston protested, leading to the "Rodney Riots", which caused six deaths and millions of dollars in damages.

In 1972, Rodney published "How Europe Underdeveloped Africa". Historian Melissa Turner describes the work this way: "A brutal critique of long-standing and persistent exploitation of Africa by Western powers, How Europe Underdeveloped Africa remains a powerful, popular, and controversial work in which Rodney argued that the early period of African contact with Europe, including the slave trade, sowed the seeds for continued African economic underdevelopment and had dramatically negative social and political consequences as well. He argued that, while the roots of Africaโ€™s ailments rested with intentional underdevelopment and exploitation under European capitalist and colonial systems, the only way for true liberation to take place was for Africans to become cognizant of their own complicity in this exploitation and to take back the power they gave up to the exploiters."

On June 13th, 1980, Rodney was killed in Georgetown, Guyana via a bomb given to him by Gregory Smith, a sergeant in the Guyana Defence Force, one month after returning Zimbabwe. In 2015, a "Commission of Inquiry" in Guyana that the country's then president, Linden Forbes Burnham, was complicit in his murder.

"If there is to be any proving of our humanity it must be through revolutionary means."

Walter Rodney

I finally had a good game of Victoria 3 but it kind of went too good, my monarchy was too stable and everyone loved me so never got a chance to go communist

lmao I just read a reddit post that in addition to being a Zionist, neil druckmann also said in an interview that killing Ellie to make a vaccine would have worked, which kind of ruins the seemingly (but apparently absent) intentional ambiguity of Joel choosing to save her

Dreamt that the side hustles/gig work the fbi/cia did was even dumber than thought. Think ineptly mixing their brand of of bullshit with mlm and you got it. Selling people on personal growth schemes and while all that was a dream idk maybe the lathe is spinning now.

anyone has had bad mood swings, like where you are alternatively fine and somewhat happy and hopeful one day and then the next day or a few hours later feel completely terrible and restless and depressed and hopeless and shitty and has gotten meds to help with that. kinda feel like i need some stability to work on the problems in my life and thats like the least thing ive got now.

At least he acknowledges the existence of the Julian calender now. Also he acknowledges that Jews are not uniquely evil, Israel is just a genocidal colonialist state. In return I had to admit that the quran is well written (No skin off my nose) and may contain eternal spiritual truth the same way any religious book can (Also no skin off my nose).

He didn't agree to evolution, but he did admit that the existence of vestigial organs and muscles constitutes a theological mystery and would take it up with his imam.

So not productive, but my bad brain is satisfied.

Tryna revive my non-sidecar motorcycle, its been sitting for a while and the battery is so dead I can't even charge it. It shouldn't be too hard to fix though, it's a dead simple design so I probably just need to put a new battery in and clean the carbs to get it running, then check the tires/brakes before I can ride it.

I'm like 50/50 on keeping versus selling it. I want to sell it so I don't have to renew the insurance/registration, but it's also my first bike so I want to keep it forever and ever. Once I'm riding it every day again I'll almost certainly decide to keep it regardless of the cost lmao.

spoileri wonder if i can get away with just having one registered bike and swapping the license plate back and forth in Minecraft

In the red and asleep, and I still can't catch this Aipom in this Silver playthrough. I burned through 9 Pokeballs and 3 Greatballs. Fearow may be my favorite Pokemon, but it sucks to go through numerous Spearows just so I can run a bad Pokemon that I think is cute.

the flipside of the "skipped my meds i'm in hell" post i made a number of days ago is that my "hyperfocus on the one thing i found interesting that day" kicked in and i read like 60 pages of Lord of the Rings to escape and honestly i think i fw this shit heavy. it all feels cozier than i remembered back in middle school (ages ago) but i'm still exclusively with the hobbits where i left off (traversing the old forest) so haven't fully pivoted from "sequel to The Hobbit" to "epic creation myth of England" territory yet so maybe that accounts for it. (pls no crucify me tolkien heads if i am misunderstanding any of this i'm a newb)

If this cannabis seedling weren't green and standing up i'd think it was dead, i swear to fucking god it's been sprouted for like a week and still hasn't put out its first set of true leaves

i'm going to be real though and it's probably been pointed out before already but it's almost some sort of cosmic justice that Biden, who lied to campaign for president by saying "we'll cure cancer" if he wins, will now probably die of cancer

and yes I know it's not a huge win because he's old and achieved all his ghoulish shit but still cancer is a shitty way to die, like, I'd rank it up there on the list of bad ways to die when you're old, and if it's in his bones and shit like lol he's fucked, the best they can do for him is make shit slightly less painful until his body eats itself

so like, still kind of a win though, and the irony makes it a little juicy.

ALSO we all get to watch him visibly decline, how fun!

I pulled some 50-60 hours this week, starting the week on the backfoot and getting slower and less efficient all the while. The OT will be nice, but I had time for maybe one run and hardly any energy or time for my morning stretches.

Still, proud of the work I did, mishaps and all. My body fucking hurts.

@WizardOfLoneliness@hexbear.net Thanks for recommending Isekai Doctor, I like it a lot. Really reminds me of Dr. Stone, especially with the explanation aside panels.

Seeing thevampire holding up an ear of corn and knowing that the doctor was about to say nixtamalization was a delight

i know it's wrong but I want to do it ๐Ÿ˜ฉ i don't like bugs ๐Ÿ˜ฉ bug free yard sounds so swag ๐Ÿ˜ฉ nobody needs to tell me the complex ecology i would be disrupting because i know ๐Ÿ˜ฉ๐Ÿ˜ฉ๐Ÿ˜ฉ
