I’ve seen it theorised that mamda would’ve asked to be asked, so he has a chance to speak directly to the boomers who actually watch shows like this. I wouldn’t believe it except it was honestly such a ridiculous non-sequiter that it seems over the top even for the hysterical lib media

That would kinda make sense in a way because the way it came out was so odd

I used to love Colbert back on The Daily Show.. WH Correspondent's Dinner hosting was legendary.. then he got tapped for the network show and it looked to me like his progressive mask came right off. Turned out he was just a liberal all along and I didn't realize at that time what that meant.

Don't you see? His speech there lives on!

But, listen, let's review the rules. Here's how it works. The President makes decisions. He's the decider. The press secretary announces those decisions, and you people of the press type those decisions down. Make, announce, type. Just put 'em through a spell check and go home. Get to know your family again. Make love to your wife. Write that novel you got kicking around in your head. You know, the one about the intrepid Washington reporter with the courage to stand up to the administration? You know, fiction!

He's just relaying its content by way of demonstration now.

Liberals have been defending this saying Colbert talked this over with Zohran before hand and was just giving him questions that would be asked by the media anyway as well as giving him a platform to answer these accusations.

Sounds like cope.

Either this is a lie or Colbert's brain is fried, because he was wording it in the same loaded "does the state of Israel have a right to exist?" with zero critical engagement. Colbert was indistinguishable from whatever typical zio could ask that question except for his affectation of empathy to Mamdani. If that's what being an ally is, then it's indistinguishable from being an enemy who has a trace of good faith.

I saw that too, Sam Seder was talking about that being a possibility. And to be honest I can kinda see it, only old people watch Colbert, Mamdani going on his show and clearing up the lies about his antisemitism (and proving he's a zionist 🤢) was "good" PR to get some votes in

[-] quarrk@hexbear.net 26 points 12 hours ago

proving he's a zionist 🤢

Maybe it’s cope but my feeling is that he calculated his answers to answer very loaded questions without supporting Zionism as such.

When Colbert asks if Israel has a right to exist, Mamdani says all countries do. When asked about antisemitism, Mamdani says hate in general is bad and he plans to increase funding against hate crimes - by which he could mean protecting vulnerable minorities in general, rather than dogwhistling Zionism which wouldn’t make sense given other things he has said.

I stopped watching after about 15 minutes though, so maybe he said something else that I missed.

I could see it, too. I doubt these interviews are that authentic. I was Laos against Stephen for the way he did the interview, but I've changed my mind and am with Sam Seder's theory now.

[-] CeliacMcCarthy@hexbear.net 39 points 16 hours ago

we need a stephen colbert for the center-left

[-] axont@hexbear.net 26 points 15 hours ago

That's kind of what Sam Seder is

[-] Des@hexbear.net 11 points 14 hours ago

Sam needs to ease up on the cee-baa-enn it's making him sleepy

[-] corgiwithalaptop@hexbear.net 6 points 10 hours ago

Sam also needs to go back to Bobs Burgers

[-] Hestia@hexbear.net 30 points 15 hours ago

John Oliver is the closest we have to that

[-] MolotovHalfEmpty@hexbear.net 5 points 6 hours ago

John Oliver basically moved to the US so he could still pretend to be centre-left. If a prominent soc-dem shift in the Democratic party happens he'll probably move to Israel to keep it going.

Lee Camp. I’m pretty sure he’s a proper socialist though. His show is called Unredacted Tonight.
