I never sleep without a blanket at home. If it's too hot I will put the AC on just do I can have my blanket.

Solar panels, my last electricity bill for a quarter was literally $0 :)

[-] zerakith@lemmy.ml 8 points 1 month ago

My comment was tongue in cheek. Solar and AC are a good combo.

I'd argue there's still a energy+climate reckoning coming where energy won't be as abundant as it has been and high energy use activities (like AC) will be more challenging. the EROEI (Energy Return on Energy Invested) of renewables/low-carbon are much lower than peak fossil fuels.

Incidentally I'm the same as you I'm so socialised on sleeping under something I do it regardless of temperature

[-] EfreetSK@lemmy.world 30 points 1 month ago

The opposite, I always sleep with blanket on even if I don't want to. In summer I fall asleep with blanket on my side and wake up fully covered in blanket. And sweating like a pig

I have a kkitted blanket my grandmother gave me many years ago with large holes in it I use for this. It provides the weight with very little warmth. Perfect thing

[-] sentient_loom@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 month ago

Interesting solution. (Kkitted means knitted, right?)

[-] sorrybookbroke@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 month ago

Yeah that's it lol I haven't slept tonight and it's 6am so I'm running on the thought of fumes at this point. I'm shocked I'm this coherent

[-] sentient_loom@sh.itjust.works 18 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Blanket is how I get to sleep. I need it. I wish there was a cold blanket for these stupid hot summers. Edit: and yet I can nap fully clothes, on top the blankets, in the afternoon (if I'm super exhausted). So maybe I could condition myself out of this? But I'm not willing to risk my sleep on experiments).

I've got a cool weighted blanket that breathes well but still gives that heavy blanket comfort.

[-] sun@slrpnk.net 1 points 1 month ago

I sometimes sleep with the thing you put around a blanket (I'm not sure what the right word for it is in English)

[-] sentient_loom@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 month ago

I don't put anything around a blanket. Can you find a picture?

[-] sun@slrpnk.net 3 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

This, I could not find an image of, but it's the thing she wraps around the blanket. (The same video, but you don't have to visit YouTube https://files.catbox.moe/%2F70g75k.mp4)

Thanks. I tried translating it in my language to English, and I also got dust cover, but I thought it was a mistranslation.I thought a dust cover was the thing some people put on their bed during the day to prevent dust.

[-] CmdrShepard49@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 month ago

the thing some people put on their bed during the day to prevent dust.

I've never heard or something like this. How dusty would a bed get after 12 hours?

[-] sentient_loom@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 month ago

Wow, so you put your blanket it a bag. I guess what I use are basically quilts. Yours look much more fluffy, and also, the bag itself is much more light than my quilt-like blankets.

[-] Commiejones@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 1 month ago

The phrase you are after is "Duvet cover." A blanket is technically just a single layer of fabric, a quilt is several layers and a Duvet is 2 layers with stuffing. Calling any/all of them "blankets" is normal... until you have to put the cover on.

No a duvet cover.

[-] ohwhatfollyisman@lemmy.world 14 points 1 month ago

sometimes yes, sometimes no. i don't have a blanket rule about it.

[-] davidagain@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago

Take my angry upvote and get out.

[-] TabbsTheBat@pawb.social 10 points 1 month ago

Sometimes when it's really hot I take out the blanket from the cover, and just sleep with the cover :3

[-] Iheartcheese@lemmy.world 14 points 1 month ago

My man may I interest you in a sheet?

[-] i_am_not_a_robot@feddit.uk 8 points 1 month ago

I have to have covers, absolutely hate my back being uncovered if nothing else. Some sort of blanket or sheet is essential to get to sleep.

[-] fahfahfahfah@lemmy.billiam.net 7 points 1 month ago

I absolutely can’t sleep without a blanket, but my eight year old sleeps with no blanket and no pillow. Just a couple of stuffed animals in his bed.

[-] sharkfucker420@lemmy.ml 7 points 1 month ago

I can barely sleep without my weighted blanket

[-] adarza@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 month ago

i can't. unless i'm really, really tired. i prefer blankets.. as in plural.. with some bulk and weight to them.

[-] onslaught545@lemmy.zip 6 points 1 month ago

No blanket, but I can't sleep without a sheet of some sort. I usually use a cooling sheet

[-] Lokoschade@feddit.org 5 points 1 month ago

I need a blanket to sleep and I usually sleep on my side. When it's hot I put the lower half between my legs to prevent them sticking together and one corner of the upper half covers my torso the other corner is between my shoulder and face (I rarely use my pillow). It's more of a 'hugging the blanket' than a 'being covered by it' situation.

Lives in equator: What is blanket?

[-] CmdrShepard49@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 month ago

It's that thing your sweat does to your body.

[-] hexagonwin@lemmy.sdf.org 4 points 1 month ago

yeah during the summer but also sometimes during the winter, my computer's heat makes my room hot enough

[-] Witchfire@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

Dude wtf are you running on that thing

[-] hexagonwin@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 1 month ago

my primary machine's a dell precision t5810 and secondary one's t3600, both has old power hungry xeon cpus so they're pretty hot even on idle

[-] CmdrShepard49@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 month ago

My office gets like that with 2 desktops running, a Pi4, NVR, and 3D printer. Its typically 5-10 degrees hotter in there based off my IoT temp sensors I have in each room.

[-] JASN_DE@feddit.org 4 points 1 month ago

Yes, every summer.

[-] lucg@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago
[-] Flickerby@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 month ago

Blanket is super comfy so if it's cool enough, yes. If I'm going to be swimming in ball sweat soup an hour after falling asleep it's sans blanket time

[-] a_new_sad_me@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

When it's hot, yes.

[-] GriffinClaw@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Summer, deff (its 42C out in the day).

Winters? Hell no. I was raised by the ocean, so used to very mild climates. Now I live at the base of hills.

On one hand, love all the green, rain and cool temps come spring and autumn. But 0C winter cold? Im a walking cloth hill, nightly buried in comforters.

[-] monovergent@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 month ago

If it's too hot. Unless it's actually frigid in my room, I also tend to kick the blanket off at some point during the night.

[-] Mangoholic@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 month ago

Fat has insulation properties. Without its probably best to crank up the heating.

[-] Cherry@piefed.social 2 points 1 month ago

Bamboo sheets are pretty nice. They have weight to them but keep you cool in the summer.

[-] UltraGiGaGigantic@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

I have to. My body temperature burns bright. Really thought my body temperature would get cooler as I aged out of my 20's but it didn't. I run a fan when i sleep even in the winter. Sometimes I turn down my thermostat and Crack a window because my neighbors pump their heat so high.

[-] pigeonholedpoetry@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 month ago

Only if I pass out from exhaustion/lack of sleep.

[-] eatham@aussie.zone 1 points 1 month ago
