On Lemmy I feel like we do the same except for instances. Some person signs up with an instance oblivious to its politics but will get judged based on it.

[-] WalrusDragonOnABike@reddthat.com 9 points 2 weeks ago

Of course someone on .world would say that. /j

[-] lemjukes@lemmy.world 9 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

But also blocking .ml instances by default is a great way to reduce your exposure to stupid ass takes and arguments. /not a joke

Except people accidentally join dumb instances. Nobody accidentally sets their pfp as a preteen anime girl. That shit is a choice.

[-] LaLuzDelSol@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Ummmmm actually my discord pfp is definitely of a girl in her early twenties. Well, ok MAYBE she's a teenager but she's definitely of age!

Did actually do that once.

Yeah but you're on .world, so lets take what you have to say with a bucket of salt.

[-] hakunawazo@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago

Maybe you just need to find the right community for your profile picture? Then you are unstoppable.

[-] AeonFelis@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago

Plot twist - the one calling out your anime pfp has a furry pfp

[-] Passerby6497@lemmy.world 17 points 1 week ago

If the topic is tech related, the furry instantly gains +1 credibility

[-] Kolanaki@pawb.social 2 points 1 week ago

"Yeah well you're not a real animal!"

"Uh... Yes I am. Humans are animals, doofus."

[-] ICastFist@programming.dev 2 points 1 week ago

Not a real fluffy animal!!!

[-] Kolanaki@pawb.social 4 points 1 week ago

True... I am funny guy, but maybe not that funny.

The trick is to not have an anime pfp and just make terrible arguments in general

[-] edgemaster72@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

Finally, something I'm qualified to do

[-] LogicalDrivel@sopuli.xyz 6 points 1 week ago

Similar to the Yahoo email I created when I was 14. Somehow C0d_G0dx69_420@yahoo (Made up but similar) isn't quite the professional impression I want to make now a days.

[-] Turret3857@infosec.pub 15 points 1 week ago

Instead I now use C0d_G0dx69_420@proton.me

(much more professional)

[-] Grandwolf319@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 week ago

Hot take: it’s totally fair to judge someone based on their avatar as that’s literary what it is, a pictorial summary of what you’re all about.

[-] Venus_Ziegenfalle@feddit.org 4 points 1 week ago

it’s totally fair to judge someone

Counterpoint: sometimes it's just a funny picture I like, and sometimes it's some anime titties I like. Assuming it's always going to be a meaningful representation of the user is unrealistic.

[-] Ricaz@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 week ago

In my mind, some edgy-looking anime dude is very different from anime booba.

While both remove validity of argumentation, the former probably means you're a minor, and the ladder means you will never have a social life outside the internet.

[-] 0x0@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 week ago

While both remove validity of argumentation,

Why?

A lot of people don't treat it as such though, and thus it becomes odd to assume so. But some things are just downright questionable, obviously.

[-] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago
[-] SonOfAntenora@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

It could be worse. They could have a greek marble bust with laser eyes instead of the anime pfp.

[-] PugJesus@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

Me, a Classics enjoyer, immediately suspecting someone of fascism when they have a Graeco-Roman bust pfp:

[-] Turret3857@infosec.pub 3 points 1 week ago

SiIvaGunner noooo don't start world rip 3

[-] PeriodicallyPedantic@lemmy.ca 5 points 2 weeks ago

Is it really a valid point if you have an anime PFP?

[-] Sabata11792@ani.social 4 points 2 weeks ago

Your not going to stop me from saying unhinged shit in political subs.

[-] blarghly@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago

And you can't stop me from feeling your argument is invalid

[-] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

Feel this sweater instead. It's real velour!

[-] SubArcticTundra@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 weeks ago

Greek gods casting their ballot is actually a great propaganda image for democracy

[-] ICastFist@programming.dev 2 points 1 week ago

Ha, my fist is impervious to those attacks!

[-] TheLeadenSea@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 weeks ago
[-] PugJesus@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

Clearly he respects the democratic process o7

He knows that peacefully voting is the only way to bring down the fascist Trojans.

[-] Klear@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

No way Trojans are fascists. Have you even seen his anime profile pic?

[-] Exusia@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

I'm in this picture and I hate it

[-] marcos@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

Oh, hi Achilles! How have the last dozen centuries been?

[-] Exusia@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

I'd say kicking it but frankly not a lot of kicking anything with the ankle. Uk how it is. Generally Greece hasn't been friendly towards people with kinetic disabilities what with all the stairs and ships and all, so I live on an island relying on the community.

Lovely woman opened a hotel here. Had to move out when her daughter was gonna get married but apparently there was like 3 men who might be her dad...and they sang about it? Idk lotta personal issues there. So just hanging around with some guy and his rock these days.

[-] LovableSidekick@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

The story of Achilles has always creeped me out. Imagine getting shot in the heel with a fucking arrow. Seems like one of the worst places. OTOH I guess no place is exactly good.

tbf, an arrow anywhere was bad news.
