Trump is probably on the list, so he has to protect that. The Democrats had it during their entire presidency; even if they didn't want turmoil during their time in office, they could have released it after their presidential defeat and before Trump took office.

Because it isnt a list of sex offenders. Its a list of contacts, clients, whatever. Just having a name on a list from Epstein doesn't mean anything beyond being suspicious. It doesn't prove anything by itself. But the public doesn't care about that. So the people on that list need to be protected, they are innocent until proven guilty. You can't and shouldn't want to make it public.

There is no deep conspiracy necessary. Although powerful people are implicated due to being on the list, or actually did things that are fucked up. The fact none of it got public isnt proof of conspiracy, rather of a functioning legal system. And it wouldnt surprise me if these papers simply never got handed over to any politician, despite their claims.

And them asking stupid questions like 'hand me over the list of child molesters that epstein made'...which doesn't exist. Lets not forget that most of these Trumpets are exceedingly dumb.

The boring answer: criminal investigative files generally aren't released, so they're compiled in a way that mingles information about victims with information about suspects and witnesses and others potentially involved in criminal activity, intentionally or unwittingly, directly or tangentially.

If you want to export a list of all names in the files, you'll want to filter out victims for sure, and probably mere witnesses. You definitely don't want to out informants and make them vulnerable to retaliation.

So most law enforcement agencies simply will keep everything secret. The idea of releasing names from the file was unusual, and it's not surprising that Trump's own people refused to follow through, especially when it's highly likely that Trump was in that list of names.

because there most likely was no magic client list, as evidenced by the fact that the republicans are desperate to put out the fire they started pushing conspiracy theories now that they're not in power.

[-] zephiriz@lemmy.ml 11 points 11 hours ago

Because many of them are probably in it too. While they play to hate each other. In the words of George Carlin, " They are all in a club and you will Never be a part of it."

[-] inb4_FoundTheVegan@lemmy.world 5 points 9 hours ago* (last edited 9 hours ago)

It's a big club, and you ain't in it.

Small correction, but you're otherwise absolutely correct. 😘

[-] zephiriz@lemmy.ml 3 points 9 hours ago* (last edited 8 hours ago)

Thanks. Edit. Just reminds me of Jimmy Carter's funeral where Trump and Obama where being rather buddy buddy. Same with Bush.

[-] CarrmynCarnage@lemmy.blahaj.zone 17 points 13 hours ago

Mutually assured destruction is my likely guess. If the list came out, I imagine there would be massive casualties on both sides.

[-] Korhaka@sopuli.xyz 6 points 11 hours ago

Good. They should be destroyed.

[-] AFaithfulNihilist@lemmy.world 4 points 11 hours ago

Unfortunately the people making that call are largely people that are on that list or closely connected to people that are.

[-] Salamanderwizard@lemmy.world 2 points 12 hours ago

That's kills me inside..like I grew up being told, "Don't cover for your friends if they do something stupid." I learned that includes things like rapes and assault, or child molestation or anything that proves they are not a good person.

How is it that so many people in power don't have that type of mentality? How is it that somehow none of em, not one, has the balls to actually stand up and say, "A, B, ans C have done this and this and that."

I'm lost for words on how to describe my feelings towards the Democrats that let this through.

[-] locuester@lemmy.zip 2 points 11 hours ago

Because information is power. They can use knowledge of another’s wrongdoings to buy support for things.

[-] njm1314@lemmy.world 15 points 14 hours ago* (last edited 1 hour ago)

The obvious is that Dems are on the list too. Which is undoubtedly true. Even more importantly than that donors. But the fact that Merrick Garland was involved and he'd never to anything to make Trump look bad ever should also be remembered.

[-] sgtlion@hexbear.net 20 points 16 hours ago

It's a big club, and you ain't in it. And the whole club is on the list.

[-] Shotgun_Alice@lemmy.world 10 points 14 hours ago

Because I suspect most of the rich and famous are on that list and both (dems and rep) are now blackmailing the people on the list for money.

[-] monkeyslikebananas2@lemmy.world 2 points 12 hours ago

This is the answer

[-] keepcarrot@hexbear.net 18 points 16 hours ago

Same reason

[-] MapleEngineer@lemmy.world 100 points 22 hours ago

Because wealthy and powerful degenerates on both sides of the aisle are on the list.

[-] MotoAsh@lemmy.world 37 points 22 hours ago

One of the few times "both sides" is not only accurate but appropriate.

[-] krolden@lemmy.ml 4 points 12 hours ago

Maybe it's accurate more than you think

Because It's one big club that's playing theater for the masses. They're all on the fucking list.

[-] sharkfucker420@lemmy.ml 35 points 19 hours ago

You think none of them are on the list too?

[-] SlartyBartFast@sh.itjust.works 2 points 11 hours ago

Surprised nobody leaked it

[-] TheDarkestShark@lemmy.world 2 points 11 hours ago

I think a lot of people are missing a crucial point about Epstien, his ties to Israel. Our government may have a list but it is not theirs to release.

[-] sunzu2@thebrainbin.org 2 points 8 hours ago

The blind support US provides for the genocide makes me wonder if Israel is the one with all the kompromat everyone says Russia has

Or maybe they both do

[-] robot_dog_with_gun@hexbear.net 12 points 17 hours ago

ongoing investigation, they still cling to norms. even if pedophilia wasnt bipartisan they wouldnt have released it.

they also could've dismantled ICE but they like fascism.

[-] Sanctus@lemmy.world 49 points 22 hours ago

Democrats are on the list.

[-] huf@hexbear.net 13 points 18 hours ago

lol you think bill gates and his friends would allow their pet democrats to do a thing? lol

[-] hperrin@lemmy.ca 32 points 22 hours ago* (last edited 22 hours ago)

Tbh, probably because a lot of their donors are on the list. Also, Bill Clinton. And probably several other Democrats.

You need to stop seeing them as different groups.

[-] CmdrShepard49@sh.itjust.works 9 points 19 hours ago

Its more clear than ever. I don't understand how more people don't see it atleast amongst those who follow politics like this.

more then likely cuz there were more then a few D politicians n definitely Democratic donors on that list.

[-] PerogiBoi@lemmy.ca 1 points 11 hours ago

Because when you get to a certain point of wealth, you can have everything and nothing is out of reach. So you move on to other things that are out of reach… big fucking yikes if you ask me.

[-] FunkyStuff@hexbear.net 16 points 21 hours ago

The obvious answer is that the Clintons are heavily implicated, but in a more general sense, the point of blackmail is to extort someone into doing something on the condition that you don't release the blackmail. That's why they got Epstein to connect with so many academics, celebrities, and other public figures. If they were to just release the blackmail, it would lose intelligence agencies all their leverage.

[-] TommySoda@lemmy.world 16 points 22 hours ago

The same reason every politician and government will never release them, because they are trying to protect themselves or someone else. As long as money and power remain the only things politicians care about this will never get released. And I find it absolutely infuriating that these people will always prioritize reputations over the literal r*ping of children. There are literally hundreds, if not thousands, of people just blatantly getting away with it because apparently every single elite is in on it.

The Democrats had it during their entire presidency

Specificity is the path to the truth. People call out for "the list", but don't seem to know exactly what this is. Given that all this activity is illegal, there's little point in storing a list of illegal sex clients in QuickBooks.

Instead, the closest thing would probably be a contact list, with people who were in on it and not mixed in. Prosecutors definitely have such a list, as it was shown in court - exhibit "GX52". This list was partly shown in the Maxwell trial, but also sealed by the judge - not Democrats. Supposedly it contains "many, many, many, many names" including some with "massage at Palm Beach".

Now you could say, why didn't Biden tell the DOJ to release that list. Probably for the same reason he didn't tell them to drop the prosecution of Hunter, which he later pardoned him for. Be cynical as you want about the separation of the DOJ and the president, (which Trump has consistently ignored) Biden did make a show of upholding it. And releasing the list to embarrass Trump would be a pretty blatant violation of that principle. It would also probably violate the seal order, making DOJ attorneys vulnerable to contempt.
