On this week this niche leftist forum was first launched (its was the 24th or 25th i think) Formed from the Chapotraphouse subreddit remnants that survived the reddit ban over the calls of violence against confederate slave owners, the first admins decided to use Lemmy as its base. Originally called Chapo.chat (ChaCha) Hexbear has grown into one of the biggest instances in the lemmyverse.

In this last 5 years hexbear has survived many diffent events from numerous struggle sessions, mod clique-users conflicts, wrecker incursions from other instances and sites, this image dprk-soldier, a decent amount of fedidrama with other instances and the domain crisis, we still thrive with over 5 million comments and 375k posts.

I still continue my dictatorial rule over the general megathread for now over 4 years now, this time locked in the chapo comm so it can be more easily moderated, c/indigenous has now grown to 750 subs which im very happy plus now i take care of the empoc mega which has been pretty chill so far.

I still really enjoy the fedidrama, it fun to see all the fedilibs always thinking about hexbear despide the fact that they are on defederated instances and they can ust ignore us, we live rent free on their minds

I was watching white lotus, and they hyped up this guy as being hung and they showed him full frontal, but he was flaccid except it kind of seemed like to make it more impressive they probably tried to get some blood flow in there. There was someone on set literally in charge of this: https://hexbear.net/comment/6163582

daydreaming about that time I made a badpost that was like "report this thread and the best report reason will be the reason the mods take it down in 24 hours" and that shit lasted like 2 hours before an admin stepped in to lock the thread undyne-joy

Now that was a badpost.

Giving your id and picture to a brand new app so you can post other people’s pictures without their consent, amazing idea.

Coworker 1 "do you think that new king of the hill reboot will be any good?"

Coworker 2 "yeah as long as they dont make it woke"

Coworker 1 "yeah totally man"

Me internally "I hope you both shit your pants while you are driving today, and it gets all mushed into the seat and it'll never smell not like shit in your car again"

The idea: roundabouts are one of the most effective forms of traffic control for intersections, as demonstrated by places outside the US

The reality: roundabouts are effective as long as Americans aren't using them

Apparently weird needs are commenting on Una's hair being wird in the last strange new worlds episode. I didn't like rhe episode and it was noticeably different cause it was tied up more but it was also clearly cause they had a low gravity scene and didn't want to try to make near waist length thicc hair look good in fake low gravity when they could just tie her hair up and either do wire shit or flip the frame

The other helm officer got replaced with some shorthair guy for the ep and La'an had her hair up in a tight bun instead of her usual ponytail too, Una's hair was just the most noticible.

It’s so fucking unfair how in TikTok, every nazi dipshit is given a megaphone and everyone claps, but I get banned for cussing them out.

They love to talk about how tough they are, yet censors always come in and save their asses. Worth it to make these scumbags know the feeling’s mutual.

I feel ya there. Got a dude back from paternity leave who had only been working 4 months before that so there's a bit of re-teaching but there's just this nervousness to mess up that's worse than messing up would be. Im a cook and tend to be treated like i have more authority than I technically do because I have no issue with calling the shots and am good at it. But I got good at it by just going ahead with what I think works and keeping the show moving than stopping and asking someone else who's busy if I did it right each time. Our dishwasher is amazing at helping on the line but he has yet to grasp how to warch anything in the oven that isn't pizza in almost 3 years. 2 days ago he asked me if a pan of brussle sprouts was done I was busy as hell in the window, and let him know I trust his judgment and he should know by now. He said he was just scared of doing it wrong, told him fear is the mind killer and id rather do a few remakes if it means getting it figured out permanently and that there is never harm in pulling something early, it can go back in. We had a catering order for 30 pizzas today and the person showed up 20 minutes early for it. I very clearly and emphatically said while he was making 2 pizzas for a takeout that was rung in when we got started on the 30 "after this anything that comes in has to wait until after the 30. We've been offered no mercy, we will show none." To another cook, hee agreed and even repeated 'no mercy' so while there can sometimes be language barrier stuff, I felt we were on the same page and once again, have been working together for like 3 years now. The second another order came in he stopped on the 30 and started in the smaller one. There's a temporary fair with rides and crap across the street so along with these large orders we were getting a ton of families walking in and no one was talking to each other on the line cause that's always been an issue, they see their chit and make the food immediately as fast as possible with no regard for the big picture. So I had to "86 free will" and micro the start and fire times. All they need to do is say what table number or takeout name theyre either starting on or firing into the oven. Cause that's too hard I end out with all but 1 or 2 items for 5 different orders cause theres no regard for the big picture. Just getting it out of your own way, never mind I have to cut, plate, garnish, box stuff and have it sorted for front of house to pick up while keeping half an eye on the oven, calling orders and making salads and apps. And it's cause when people see a bunch of shit to do they feel pressured and need to learn not to. Our turnaround times are legendary, fast food speed at a sit down place, too fast. It all has to filter through me and even then it tends to sit in the window for a long ass time before being picked up. So theres absolutely no reason to rush.
