The most annoying part of all this is other companies will see the hubbub around jeans and decide that making obnoxious dog whistle ads is the way to go because no advertising executive has a functioning brain and they all infinitely copy each other, wringing every bit of value out of a concept. Oh, Wendy's Twitter is being rude to people and it gets engagement? Better make sure Milwaukee Tools also claps back at the haters now

[-] MayoPete@hexbear.net 25 points 1 week ago

So glad I didn't get seriously into Twitter. Sounds exhausting

How USA is still a country with this level of brain damage?

[-] barrbaric@hexbear.net 17 points 6 days ago

Inertia, mostly.

[-] Euergetes@hexbear.net 42 points 1 week ago

pedophiles don't get to have opinions on how adult women look

[-] FreeRangeKitties@hexbear.net 23 points 1 week ago

[-] SoyViking@hexbear.net 39 points 1 week ago

Yeah, I'm a hot republican too trouble

[-] Comrade_Mushroom@hexbear.net 31 points 6 days ago

I ain't reading that and neither should anyone else

[-] Llituro@hexbear.net 32 points 1 week ago

not to be rude, but i think almost literally everyone commenting in this thread is misinterpreting this use of the word "hot." for a while now, trump has been back on using that in its older slang sense, as in "so hot right now." he talks about the way women look a lot, but this isn't one of those times.

[-] ThermonuclearEgg@hexbear.net 19 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

I'm actually not convinced it even matters what he really meant — like he's probably still just as wrong both ways

[-] Llituro@hexbear.net 12 points 6 days ago

i find it generally useful to at least understand what someone's trying to say when figuring out their intentions. and it's so odd that he's trying to make saying things are "hot" a thing again. like he's saying amerikkka is the hottest country.

[-] ThermonuclearEgg@hexbear.net 11 points 6 days ago

trump-yassified: "panting amerikkka"

Folks, we have the hottest Country, the fires are burning very Hot!

I wonder if Trump's getting a little sleepy himself now that he's almost 80

[-] Llituro@hexbear.net 10 points 6 days ago

trump is brandonizing at an alarming clip

Not native speaker here but i though saying the word "hot" in this context basically means its a very seeked commodity, as in sells like hot bread, aka very attractive.

[-] purpleworm@hexbear.net 9 points 6 days ago

It's very uncommon in modern parlance to use it that way in reference to a person. Not completely unrecognizable or anything, but to the average person it will come off the wrong way unless heavily contextualized.

[-] Euergetes@hexbear.net 11 points 6 days ago

I don't think those meanings of hot are disentwined as you suggest. Hot (popular) and Hot (sexy) are semantically related and in the context of talking about women a misogynist is definitely referring to how they look, if also to how popular/profitable they are.

His "thank you for your attention to this matter" sign off drives me crazy. Its the last line every every bullshit threat from a landlord. It makes me sick anytime i see it

He's a shit ass slumlord, he's probably had that printed onto millions of eviction letters.

[-] cannon_annon88@lemmy.today 24 points 1 week ago

The pants are "flying of the shelves", is this some kind of interpretive dance number?

[-] blobjim@hexbear.net 19 points 6 days ago

"being Republican is what you want to be" sounds too reddit-like for this to have been written by Trump.

[-] Rey_McSriff@hexbear.net 16 points 6 days ago

(Sideshow Bob voice) You secretly long for a cold-hearted Republican to lower taxes, brutalize criminals, and rule you like a king!

"being Republican is what you want to be"

Modern fascism is getting really blatant about the esoteric egoism. Pretty soon MAGA people will be embracing full solipsism and walking off cliffs believing that they can fly because they are the fulcrum around which the universe turns.

Does he think the beer company is called Bud Lite?

[-] porous_grey_matter@lemmy.ml 18 points 1 week ago

No, and the people who he's writing to don't know what an Anheuser-Busch is. What it means is "remember that thing you were angry at? think about how angry you were again".

[-] schlongjohnson@hexbear.net 13 points 1 week ago

ive seen people proudly boycott bud lite by switching to busch lite

[-] infuziSporg@hexbear.net 12 points 6 days ago

That's probably why the "boycott" in spring 2023 only made a brief flicker on the stock price of AB InBev.

Tfw aesthetics matter more than substance. The factories of these commodities may very well be exactly the same but all that matters is which hot blonde celebrity made a commercial for them lmao

Grandpa posting from the toilet is the arbiter of what's HOT

While Trump spends his time on juvenile dog whistles, the nasty, evil gnomes around him are working in the shadows destroying everything.

What’s the hexbear line on misandry? Or at least a US specific version. It seems like a reasonable response

[-] purpleworm@hexbear.net 8 points 6 days ago

I can't speak for HB, but 99.9999% of references to ""misandry"" are stupid bullshit, but it's conceptually valid when talking about individuals or very small, divergent, and rare social alcoves. I think corvidenjoyer's argument's real conclusion is that the patriarchy itself is surely the primary producer of ""misandry,"" though it's just observably false that that's the only way to conceive of people having an irrational and reactionary hatred of people on the basis of those people being men, though the patriarchal kind is overwhelmingly the most common and accepted, and the only one that's really useful to try to analyze on a systemic level that exceeds talking about like an obscure clique of marginally misguided radfems, who all together do not represent even a small fraction of the hate that men direct at each other and themselves on a patriarchal, "toxic masculinity" basis.

I don't like calling it ""misandry"" because I don't think it should be equivocated with misogyny, which is the only reason that the term exists to begin with. The two are not socially similar at all and their impacts on society are very different.

I don't really think "toxic masculinity" is a helpful term either, because gender as a moral construction is itself toxic and "positive masculinity" is just "being a good person" and has nothing to do with being a man. I don't care what people do with the aesthetics of gender, that's not my business, I'm only talking about it as a system of non-aesthetic values.

Not real. There is no person alive today that can even concieve of an example of "misandry" that isn't entirely based on what the ideal man is desired to be under patriachy thus reinforcing that superstructure. Its same as "anti-white racism" essentially.
