This actually seems quite reasonable, it can give you a pretty good idea of how strong winds are if you’ve not experienced the distance between 40kmph and 60kmph before

Yeah numbers are pretty hard to conceptualize unless you already know what they mean. The addition I would do is put the actual numbers there as well at the same time, so you could get a good reference with an example

Anything but the metric system

Give me freedom units or give me death!

"What is this commie 'meter'? Give me measurements in the feet of the dead monarch whom my ancestors rebelled against!" Or something like that :3

What is this commie 'meter'?

Uh, it's the length a photon travels under vacuum during a time interval between two hyperfine ground states of caesium-133 divided by 299792458. Duh.

Mm science :3 I prefer to think of a meter as roughly 3 light nanoseconds

I love the fact that imperial is legally defined in it's relation to metric btw :3. Like the US uses metric they just have to abstract it for some reason

Rate your mental health with the Trash Can Scale

I'm getting better though. I lost my trashcan recently but now I'm found.

[-] Bahnd@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

You make me sad...

[-] jaybone@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 week ago

I’m curious to see how Trump will manipulate this index to further his climate change denial.

“Those were fake waffles. We have the best waffles. Fried chicken too. Nobody has more waffles. So many waffles. You can eat them all. ”

It may be counterintuitive, but a bin is more likely to be down the street, than in the neighbor's yard. Because the wind will blow the bin along the open street more easily than it will force it up a curb or driveway.

I've found my bin halfway down the street several times here in NM. I've never had it end up in the neighbor's yard.

In my area, they use outdoor trampolines as measurement.

[-] ryedaft@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 week ago

If it's really windy your trampoline has impaled more than one elderly neighbour

[-] Bahnd@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

I prefer the French Toast or Waffle House Indexes for unofficial silly weather measurement.
