Baiscally if you picked Anime then video games never existed and never will.

If you pick video games then Anime never existed and never will.

What world would you choose?

I'm not talking about living in an anime or video game btw. Just a world where you can only experience one of them and the other was never created.

Anime is quite tied to video game, so interesting question. I know only few anime coming from visual novels adaptations (clannad), video game references (about 3/4 of isekais i've seen, but except for this genre, it's pretty rare), or just promotional anime for games (pokémon). So without video games, we would still have all of the series focusing on others things, in addition to movies, like some from Ghibli which had a lot of influence and are definitely part of culture.

On the other hand, anime never existing would basically mean the artstyle itself never existed in the first place, so no Osamu Tezuka to introduce it, or a Japan which never recovered from war. That would mean Atari still crashing in 83, but no famicom to introduce video game consoles as we know it, so it is probable the world would have stayed for arcades and computer video gaming for a long time.

My argumentations seem favorable for anime, but i'd still pick video games, even if about half of my steam library would then cease to exist. I like interacting stories most of all.

~~I guess manga and light novels doesn't count either huh?~~

As much as I like Anime, I don't watch it that often, so I'd be okay with just video games.

Video games. Very easy choice. A good mmo will take you multiple years to get a fair amount done. Tons of entertainment for the money. Plus you can chat with others in the game.

There could also be Telltale style games that would be like an interactive anime

Easy choice games.

Anime is japanese animation which is just a portion of movies, shows.

However games are a whole other medium, which can offer vastly different experiences. Games can also incorporate other mediums like books, music and movies quite freely.

Good riddance anime.

I rarely ever watch anime, so I'll have to go with video games since I play those every now and then.

Only video games. Although I'd be okay without either honestly.

Well, considering that I already have a *kill it with fire* mentality towards anime... XD

But I'd miss Miyazaki, though. That would indeed be a bitter loss.

Very difficult to choose from, since I basically lived without anime for my first 16 years or so,
as internet was rare.

I'd still say anime only though.
It allows me to better point out what's wrong with the US
and in particular what's wrong with US media.

If I choose video games, there can be visual novel games with anime aesthetic?

Edit: Ace Attorney, or Clannad, by example.

Yeah my immediate thought was "poor Phoenix hes fucked either way"

[-] andrewta@lemmy.world 1 points 18 hours ago

I’d say no. Because that is basically anime. But op sets the rules.

[-] birdwing@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 14 hours ago

Hold it! According to the legal statute of Japanifornia, anime is merely a style of cartoon, originating from Japan. A cartoon doesn't need to be anime to be discounted.
