Mamdani already admitted to using weed, if they have evidence that he did it before 2018, (or if he admits it), then they could legit just take away his citizenship for using a controlled substance. "Legal weed" is a misconception, btw.

Like holy hell, wtf. For a non-violent victimless crime, the punishment is losing your rights. Absolute insanity. Not to mention, all these bogus "terrorist" or "communist" allegations. Denaturalization has a lower threshold of proof than "Beyond reasonable doubt" and its a civil court, I don't think they even need a jury. Just a random trump judge can be rubber stamping it.

As a former PRC Citizen and a current US Citizen, this is terrifying to me. My citizenship was derived from my mother, so they could just accuse my mother of being a "Communist" (which she is not) and then also revoke my citizenship (since it was originallt derived from her naturalization), in one sweep, and then probably seize all her financial assets in the US. According to PRC laws, the moment you obtain foreign citizenship, you automatically lose PRC citizenship. So... now what? Statelessness? The fuck?

Besides, I'm literally anti-CCP so these "Communist" allegations are ridiculous anyways. But you know, loopholes, I don't even need to be involved, they denaturalize my mother and I'm cooked. (I guess maybe I can run to canada and plead for asylum? 🤔)

This is tyranny.

that's exactly why they made drugs illegal. to prosecute whoever they don't like. specifically along ethnic lines

Many laws like that where it's unevenly applied

He did weed?? Unforgivable! I mean Trump was pumping pounds of coke up his nose while raping kids on Epstein island, but weed????

MAGA is scared of progressives like Mamdani, not wealthy neoliberals like Pritzker or Newsom.

With a neoliberal MAGA gets to keep running the same playbook that's been working for them. That's why they fight publicly on social media with neoliberals. But never do shit like this unless it's a progressive.

[-] AmidFuror@fedia.io -2 points 1 month ago

MAGA is also scared of the CCP. That doesn't automatically make the CCP a force for good.

[-] DeathByBigSad@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 month ago

Mamdani is not a CCP member

Analogies have to make sense. You're using it to pivot the discussion.

You insult everyone's intelligence and debase your own. Maybe that's just your baseline.

[-] despite_velasquez@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

China is orders of magnitude more of a force for good than the US is.

China becoming hegemon would unironically be amazing for humanity

[-] givesomefucks@lemmy.world -1 points 1 month ago

This would be like if I said:

Mice are afraid of cats

And you jumped in and said they may also be afraid of cheese...

They love far right authoritarian regimes, which is what China is.

Like, why did you even make that comment, do you think China is fucking leftwing?

[-] Velypso@sh.itjust.works 0 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

A non-zero amount of people on Lemmy think china is communist and therefore left-wing.

[-] AmidFuror@fedia.io -1 points 1 month ago

No True Communism

All bad regimes are right wing. They should be replaced with left wing regimes because they are always good. Counterexamples are not truly left wing.

[-] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

Gee, I wonder why there's no actual communist government...

[-] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 month ago

No True

Words mean things. Do you think the DPRK is democratic, or the Nazis were socialist?

[-] DeathByBigSad@sh.itjust.works 0 points 1 month ago

Bro I lived in China, they literally operate a capitalist authoritarian regime.

Who owns the land in Shanghai?

Under the European system of monarchies the king owned all land in the kingdom. On that legacy King Charles III and the pope are still the two largest landowners in the world. Were the British Empire and the Roman Empire communist?

E: The US federal government owns about 27% of the land in the US including the majority of Washington DC. State governments own about another 7% and local governments another 2%. That's more than a third of the country. What's the tipping point? How far are we from becoming communist based on land ownership?

[-] JcbAzPx@lemmy.world -1 points 1 month ago

Whether China is communist or not, I can't answer. What China definitely is, is right wing.

[-] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 1 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

If they're right wing they're not communist, even under the objectively stupid left wing equals libertarian definition.

[-] krooklochurm@lemmy.ca -1 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Authoritarian left.

Authoritarian right.

Chicken wings!

Rep. Randy Fine (R-Fla.) last week demanded the feds “review every naturalization of the past 30 years – starting with Mamdani. I just think we need to take a hard look at how these folks became citizens, and if there is any fraud or any violation of the rules we need to denaturalize and deport,.”

I have a better idea. Start with Melinia Trump and her parents. Maybe send Baron on his way as well. Then have a good hard look at Elon Musk.

Please don't drive traffic to the New York Post of all places. Or if you absolutely must, copy the text to the post. I have mixed feelings about that practice, but that company is scum and doesn't deserve the rage traffic

[-] BrianTheeBiscuiteer@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Hadn't tried it yet but someone is maintaining an antifascist blocklist. Doesn't include NY Post but it should.

“In 2018 when he was naturalized, he failed to disclose some of the things that he had been doing, one of which was joining the [Democratic] Socialists of America. That’s a communist organization...

What a fucking moron. "Democratic" is in the name, you spoon eating cunt!

[-] NikkiDimes@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Anything they don't like is communist. Same as it's always been. Via decades and decades of propaganda, it's an easy way to paint someone as an outsider.

[-] RandAlThor@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

US immigration law declares inadmissible those who have “been a member of or affiliated with the Communist or any other totalitarian party.” The current form asks would-be citizens to disclose if they have ever been associated “in any way” with “any Communist or totalitarian party anywhere in the world.”

They want to deport former communists or affiliates of communist parties? Let's start at the White House!

This is the guy pushing this nonsense foremost. His name is Ogles.

ogles

He ogles.

[-] frustrated_phagocytosis@fedia.io 1 points 1 month ago

What threat does he represent? Did he form an armed mob that plans to attack the government? Because the precedent now is that such acts are approved political activities.

[-] rigatti@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

The threat of being brown and caring about people.

[-] ArbitraryValue@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 month ago

It's just two House Republicans, at least so far. Just par for the course of Republicans proposing things like this.

[-] PKscope@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

I think they should keep their fucking mouths shut since they haven't even been in session in over a month. Want to talk about immigration when their shitty middle manager has everyone at home because they're afraid to swear in the new Dem rep.

It's all so ridiculous it makes my head spin. This country is a horrible joke. Superpower my ass. We're going to turn into a paper tiger after all the corruption guts every institution we once held in high esteem.

How DARE this ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT try to Shape US Politics!

Of COURSE I'm talking about ~~Elon Musk~~ Mamdani?

[-] QuoVadisHomines@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 month ago

I thought you were talking about Alexander Hamilton.

[-] JoMiran@lemmy.ml 0 points 1 month ago

Headline grabbing stunts with no chance of legal success, BUT mainstream media is very happy to oblige because of them tasty "clicks" and delicious rage bait engagement. The Republican buffoons get elected and re-elected because their base love these stunts.

[-] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 0 points 1 month ago

Why would they bother with laws when he can "die resisting an ICE officer"

[-] DeathByBigSad@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 month ago

That's too obvious, its more like: "oopsie, he randomly got sick and died in ICE detention, we totally didn't poison him."
