The weak nuclear force? it's no good folks! very nasty
People want the strong nuclear force! very legal and very cool

US wasn't using the EM catapults when they needed reliability anyway--this is still ridiculous because it's clearly a reaction to China reportedly having decent EM catapults lol
Serious question: Why does Trump want this old tech?
He's been on this particular line since his first presidency. From a 2019 interview quote:
I said, “You don’t use steam anymore for catapult?” “No sir.” I said, “Ah, how is it working?” “Sir, not good. Not good. Doesn’t have the power. You know the steam is just brutal. You see that sucker going and steam’s going all over the place, there’s planes thrown in the air.”
It sounded bad to me. Digital. They have digital. What is digital? And it’s very complicated, you have to be Albert Einstein to figure it out. And I said—and now they want to buy more aircraft carriers. I said, “What system are you going to be—” “Sir, we’re staying with digital.” I said, “No you’re not. You going to goddamned steam, the digital costs hundreds of millions of dollars more money and it’s no good.”
You going to goddamned steam
Me getting excited for a warm shower on a cold day
Sir... Sir... Sir...
That's one of my favorite things about Trump. He has "tells" that show you he's lying. Yet the chuds and the media ignore them.
You don’t use steam anymore for catapult?... You know the steam is just brutal... Digital. They have digital. What is digital?...
Good ol' Trump
i'm amazed at how anyone thinks this guy is smart. my parents, two well spoken, educated, relatively wealthy people are convinced this man is a genius and i guess its because nobody listens to the words he says anymore
I love this speech pattern tbh
It's because the president is 12
He seems to think that magnets stop working when they get wet. He's made numerous comments to that effect going back years.
Once again wishing he wasn't so engaged with actively harming people because he's very fucking funny sometimes.
He would've done great as a variety show host
Yeah, the world would be a much better place if we'd all just agreed to let him headline a revival of Laugh In or start a podcast about off-Broadway gossip or something. That's clearly where is heart is, and he can be genuinely entertaining. Unfortunately, it turns out that in
the best way to get the kind of adulation Trump clearly craves is to do fascism.
American education system is wonderful
He's just an idiot. The US already has a Ford class aircraft carrier that has conducted tens of thousands of sorties using EMALS since October 2023 in the USS Gerald R Ford. The US successfully launched an F-35C from a ground based EMALS catapult 12 years ago. The USS Gerald R Ford doesn't operate F-35Cs as part of it's air wing, because of a procurement decision to equip older Nimitz class carriers like the Carl Vinson and George Washington with the support equipment for F-35Cs first. The second Ford class carrier, the USS John F Kennedy, has already tested it's EMALS in trials. The US is not going back to steam, Trump just doesn't like magnets for whatever reason.
but her EMALS!
: The electromagnetic aircraft launch system, it's funded by Clinton and Soros folks

there was an article here recently about china using some kind of electromagnetic launch system so it's probably just being anti-whatever-china-does
He has the -tism for early 19th century steam warships.
Nuclear is most powerful. But lotsa people don't know that steam is strong and powerful too. Like a big, throbbing steam engine. Loud! So loud. So strong. So powerful. Throbbing. My dream... Plane shot by steam launch. Flying so fast, so high, so far.

MIGHTY AMERICAN STEAM
~puny~ ~china~ ~electromagnetic~
Reckon it's cheaper
it really shouldnt be but US military development contracts are fucking ridiculous so i could believe it
I kind of see a logic there, the carriers are nuclear powered so technically converting the steam to electricity is just an unnecessary extra step
