From what I understand this guy was more of a daredevil who said he MAYBE believed in flat earther shit so he could get them to crowd fund his janky rocket builds.
You know flat earthers who do this sort of stuff are at least sticking by their convictions. They have full faith in a sort of warped logical positivism, and based on this they have a thesis that they wish to prove and they set out to do so. It is a very pure embrace of scientific principles. There was one of them a while back who got up pretty far in some homemade device and subsequently abandoned flat earthism
