Hehe, I missed my appointment Monday last week so I dont have a script anymore.. Tried all of this week to get one and still nothing.. I'm popping 6 25mg pills every morning to not get into withdrawal from a refill I got years ago it's going great lmao
Thankfully I have anxiety, so for the 24 hours before appointment that's the only thing I can think about :D
Stuff like that was why my doctor suggested I might have time blindness. Turns out it's not normal to be afraid to "get in trouble" for being late to things
Those neurotypicals and their ideas of what is normal or not. It's normal for us.
Let's add that symptom to my pile of new terms to ask about.
I finally learned to let my phone worry for me.
Oh, I don't worry about missing the appointment, but a hundred other things. Can't outsource those
It just changes the anxiety. I often check to make sure the reminder is in my calendar but it always has that satisfying relief when I do.
Good thing I have the "can't think or do anything else for the entire day because I have a 5:00 appointment" sort of tic.
If it’s not on my phone calendar, it doesn’t exist. I put it in as soon as I’m making it, even putting my phone on speaker or using headphones if I have to call (yuck). I have calendars for work, personal, dogs, family, my preschooler, and just reminders. Dress up day for school? Calendar. Appointment? Calendar. Lesson/practice/sport? Calendar. Dog medicine? Calendar. Meeting friends for lunch? Calendar.
I do this, but also run a magic mirror that displays on an old tablet in the kitchen, right by the kettle. I make several cups of tea every day (Bri'ish innit?), so I can't miss it :)
Do you mind giving more details about this magic mirror thing?
I have an old tablet lying around, not being used, and that sounds handy.
Ooh like this?

Huh, I never realised it could be so simple. Time to hunt down some guides, ta!
Yep, that's it. The only difference with mine is that I've got the software running on my media server and the display on a tablet, rather than the traditional Pi with a screen setup.
You need some sort of computer to run the back end, and it serves up a web page that can be displayed anywhere within your home network. I think there's a tweak to the config to allow that, but it was really simple. The website is here:
In a similar vein, check out reTerminal. Using battery powered devices with eInk screens that will last for months before needing a recharge. The screen is very customizable, and very easy to implement a calendar into.
And you can DIY reTerminal devices too. I already had a 7" eInk panel that I was able to convert with an ESP32 to eInk adapter.
Oooh, very cool. Thanks for the link, I'll check it out
Where I go for care, they blow my phone up for two days sending me texts to check in for my appointment.
I fucking love it. While I try to make appointments on the same days everytime to help, and use my calander, those text reminders are fantastic. The day of, if I haven't checked in yet, the text shoots out first thing in the morning, a little "hey! You have an appointment today!" And it's very helpful.
I long for the days of young me, that could keep the whole homework assignment in memory (and then forget the books at my desk in school :D).
You now owe $100 for missing your appointment with the dentist.
Either that or you think that and the appointment would be right now xD
Huh, I should call her back... The receptionist that is.
But why is it that you always remember your appointment the day after? Why is your inner clock consistently off by one day?
Is it though?
For me, it is. Maybe it's confirmation bias tho, I don't write a diary lol
Sounds more plausible.
Never used the Google calendar, but Apple and Microsoft calendars are great for this. I only use the Microsoft one at work, to track shifts, but I get the notifications on my iPhone because I have Outlook on it. I don't like having work email on a personal phone, but I ignore most of it. I can, however, say that the calendar works as it should. Tells me when I need to leave for work and whatnot — usually, just as I'm leaving (I have a pretty good handle on that). I use Apple stuff at home (Macs and the Watch, plus my iPhone). My main calendar is on that. I get a doctor's appointment for example, they want to write it down, I say no need, it's in my iPhone, which means it's also on my Watch and my Macs. The fuck's the paper gonna do? It's just waste.
I'm not knocking Google, I just don't use it. I'm sure it's fine. I have an older Android phone (just on WiFi, it's a backup phone) and I like it, just never used the calendar. Of course the real power move is a calendar that works with both iPhone and Android. There are a few options out there. Most of them are paid, so I'm not even gonna name any. But seriously, digital calendars are fucking awesome. Especially if you have a smart watch.
It's the fact that you have a calendar you check regularly; whatever service you use is irrelevant. Before smartphones were a thing, paper-based planner books were the go-to. If it wasn't in the planner, it didn't exist.
I've been using Tuta Calander for about a year now, the free version. I like it.
