Kidnapping a foreign head of state to charge him for violating the laws of a country he wasn't in and isn't a citizen of and has no real relationship with is so far beyond any pretense of reasonableness that I'm still kind of reeling. Every time I think I have a handle on how ridiculous and inept the current US government is they find a new way to dig deeper into the pit of fascism

A timetraveller travels back in time to Venezuela to warn them but they laugh it off and call it a good bit

Wtf does that mean “possesses machine guns?” Has that been clarified? Are countries the US doesn’t like not allowed to have machine guns?

China was a bit non-cooperative but it was okay, till Mr. Xi Jinping decided to conspire to possess and posessed 100 MILLION guns for their Militias, horrendously violating gun control laws and even included the manufacture of destructive devices like nuckear bombs, that's when we knew President DJT had to send in Law Enforcement helicopters into Beijing to arrest Mr. Xi Jinping and bring him to justice for his crimes against the United States.

I'm only partially joking when I say that the DOJ's case is going to trying him in court (and in public) as a drug lord narcoterrorist who had the tiny side hustle of being the leader of a country. In other words - with a straight face the DOJ will call him the Venezuelan version of Pablo Escobar.

I think you're probably bang on with what they'll try to pin him with

When I heard they were going to link him to machine guns - of all things - I had a funny conversation in my head. It was like in a Simpsons episode where Bart has a band-aid on his arm. Lisa pokes the band-aid and then he says "Ow! Quit it!" They do that over and over again. I said to myself "Machine guns." And then I poked myself with the question "Why?" I did that over and over again.

Ninja edit. The scene is much better than how I remembered it. - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ovo6uB0wNdo

I found a YouTube link in your comment. Here are links to the same video on alternative frontends that protect your privacy:

Not a lawyer, but my assumption is that the machine gun charges are claiming he possessed them outside his role as president. As in he got guns for private forces loyal to him, aka their bullshit cartel narrative.

Now of course applying US firearm law to a non US citizen outside US territory is complete bullshit as well.

The onion headline was, "Maduro charged with felony possession of oil"

[-] redparadise@lemmygrad.ml 27 points 1 month ago

Less funny than reality, Onion is falling behind, outclassed.

What does conspiring to do narco terror entail? Planting "dirty" bombs laced with cocaine?

[-] KuroXppi@hexbear.net 18 points 1 month ago

Dirty just means having it with a shot of coffee, cf: 'dirty chai latte'

[-] Aradino@hexbear.net 7 points 1 month ago

Dirty chai is the shit

[-] RamrodBaguette@hexbear.net 33 points 1 month ago

My gut feeling is to think these being braindead bullshit charges is the point and it's simply the US government dabbing on the rest of the world (and the majority of its own citizenry) but with this administration, I can't tell. Not like it matters a whole lot if the end goal is to consolidate control over the hemisphere and scare enemies and "allies" into compliance.

[-] KuroXppi@hexbear.net 12 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

It'll be hard to prove the cocaine importation charges into the USA if instead he was allegedly exporting them to the USA while living in Venezuela edgeworth-shrug

[-] CrawlMarks@hexbear.net 12 points 1 month ago

I a dark way I would like to see this fall appart in court. However I know that they would end up doing some thing stupid and unsatisfying in the end though.
