he United States of America is a rogue nation, run by a violent criminal who operates outside the rule of law. The bombing of Venezuela and kidnapping of its president, Nicolás Maduro, so that he can stand for a show trial in New York, is a flagrant violation of international law. It is proof positive that the United States, under Trump, is the biggest “bad guy” on the international stage and should be treated accordingly. It’s a new low point in the era of lows we call the Trump administration. And it’s a return to the imperialist posturing and interventionism that have defined this country’s garbage treatment of Latin America for two centuries.

The United States should be condemned by the international community and all peoples of this earth. Decent countries should sanction us economically, and our leaders should be charged as war criminals and have their assets frozen. These sanctions should not just be directed at the top level of our government but also against our feckless Congress and the complicit politicians in both parties who support our illegal actions. The US should be treated like the global pariah it is, and that includes bringing all of the soft-power and shame the world can bring to bear on us: Our embassies should be closed and our diplomats expelled, our games and tournaments boycotted, including the upcoming World Cup and Summer Olympics. And everybody else should be issuing travel advisories to the US in an attempt to crash our tourism industry. Everything the international community did to Russia after it invaded Ukraine should be done to us now that we’ve invaded Venezuela and are trying to install a sham government there.

Sanctions are the extremely moderate position. Let the empire fall.

I'll go one step further: if the US annexes Greenland, then Canada and the EU should respond with a declaration of war. Any South American countries are welcome to join as well. Form an alliance to end the US once and for all.

Source : am American. (Please help us.)

This has been discussed before, in the context of Americans asking for literally anyone to try and topple Trump.

The US is not a country that anyone could feasibly invade. Geography and weaponry make sure of it. Nukes are the backup plan.

Literally best we can do is stop buying anything American. The empire takes a LOT of money to run. Transitioning to EVs already would help weaken the petrodollar too. Right now the fed can keep printing and nobody will bat an eye. Once that changes, welllll, it's gonna be increasingly difficult to finance the military.

I guess the flip side of that though is that you could feasibly have one hell of a guerilla war since a decent chunk of the population would help you. It would really come down to how willing the US military would be to bomb their own citizens. This would be one of the few situations where the lack of clear sides in the US would actually be somewhat beneficial (unlike the previous civil war where there was a fairly stark North/South divide, the split this time tends to fall along rural/urban with suburbs being fairly evenly mixed).

I mean Trump has already openly started war against Venezuela. No country should wait for his next move anymore.

[-] CompostMaterial@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago

I don't disagree, but it generally take a pattern of aggression for other countries to get support for something as drastic as war.

this ignores the facts that they will do nothing but condemn it as they have always done before and the US has neutered Latin America with coups, wars & violence too much for them to ever respond.

[-] bdonvr@thelemmy.club 1 points 3 days ago

Yes. But I guarantee you they'll just condemn and move on

By now it's deserves a whole lot more than that.

It has attacked and destroyed countless other countries since WWII with impunity

It has brought us multiple times to the point of WWIII

It had caused millions of deaths, directly and indirectly, in the name of oil or some other commodities that somebody wanted

This last year is just more of the same being more visible and unhinged

The US by now is a failed state with one political side speed running for civil war

It deserves to be broken up into 50 independent countries. Some of those, like California, will prosper

Others, like Kansas, will become third world nations that won't be able to feed te own population due to the own government's ineptitude

Give people in those regions sovereignty to choose their borders. For example, the republic of new england (which would probably join with NY and NJ, or maybe those two would join with PA to form their own). Also Cascadia, west of the Cascades is quite progressive and while the eastern parts of OR and WA would gladly choose Idaho over remaining with them, I could see the eastern regions joining with California.

With no more federal congress, gerrymandering is off the docket. Wisconsin stops being fucked over and actually gets the progressive government the people want. With that, I can see Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Michigan all joining together to form some Midwest progressive nation. Indiana, Ohio would probably join the South. Iowa is up for a toss with how they would choose.

Again, there would be multiple wars fought here. People wouldn't just choose and live happily ever after without reunification attempts or expansion desires from conservative regions, especially the Great Lakes.

[-] FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago

We can't make any reasonable argument against that.

[-] Randomgal@lemmy.ca 4 points 3 days ago

Any other country doing this would be at Cuba or NK levels of sanctions.

The US is SLAMMED by lukewarm articles in their own billionaire-owned papers, and that's it

[-] eatCasserole@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago

This isn't new, but yes.

[-] Clent@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 3 days ago

Yes, please.

A couple decades ago, I recognized the only path forward for America is being invaded by land. It's been too long.

The American experiment failed in the 1980's and we've Been Weekend at Bernie's it ever since. We've grown fat and lazy and sniffed our own farts from the decaying corpse for so long we've gaslit ourselves into believing we're special.

Know how we always say how everyone we evade welcomes us? It's projection. We will welcome you. Send help.

We even revive presidence for capturing government leaders and extraditing them for trial. How much more clear can we make this cry for help?

[-] Sonicdemon86@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

They won't do anything as they are too scared to do more than a strongly worded letter like schumer does every time something happens.

[-] ShinkanTrain@lemmy.ml 2 points 3 days ago

What It deserves is to be nuked from orbit, but for now I'll settle for sanctions that won't happen either

[-] selokichtli@lemmy.ml 2 points 3 days ago

Okay, they deserve it, but no country should be nuked, never again.

[-] NEILSON_MANDALA@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

hi! it's your boss.

sanctions? surely there's a better option. what if i want to access the millions i've made from treating you all like you're subhuman?
