Jeez, how could a fucking jet engine have a heat signature? This will take 50 billion dollars to figure

[-] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 34 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

And I'm guessing the plane didn't notify the pilot they had a lock on either

[-] supafuzz@hexbear.net 36 points 1 week ago

yeah there is nothing coming out of the infrared tracker to warn the plane, it's basically just a camera

which also means there's no signature for the empire to lock onto and take out with SEAD weapons

The most interesting part is that there's no attempt at evasion and no attempt at flares either. They not only didn't know they were being targeted, they also did not know that a missile was fired at them. They failed to identify the incoming threat at all.

[-] supafuzz@hexbear.net 18 points 1 week ago

maybe they're accepting those new planes with gym weights instead of radars because it doesn't make much difference either way

[-] LaughingLion@hexbear.net 32 points 1 week ago

its worse than that. Apparently this anti-air system uses both a heat and sight picture to lock on and track. There's never any real warning to the F35 because it's not being painted with radar or lasers or nothing. If they launch flares or chaff, no problem, whichever target acquisition system gets confused it falls back to the other.

Developed and deployed effectively within a year, by the way.

Strapping a 2018 cell phone to your missile and adjusting the face tracking squares to look for an f35 then wiring the auto focus to the stabilizers

Nokia-based guidance.

[-] NephewAlphaBravo@hexbear.net 30 points 1 week ago

spending eleventy trillion to research this crank theory that the empire is bound by the same laws of physics as everyone else

[-] NephewAlphaBravo@hexbear.net 43 points 1 week ago

i'm no expert but it was probably the "combat" part

[-] GrouchyGrouse@hexbear.net 33 points 1 week ago

The American Empire got so good at crashing Ospreys during non-combat missions that it fucks up the ratio

so does that mean the f35 are unsafe?

[-] Lurkmore@hexbear.net 26 points 1 week ago

I definitely paid for the invincibility package on my warplanes. Said so right on the box.

[-] Lussy@hexbear.net 9 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

You cheap fuck, you got the basic 100m trim when you could have had heated seats and been comfortable enough as you died

[-] Assian_Candor@hexbear.net 26 points 1 week ago

I think someone aimed a weapon at it and fired

[-] Chapo_is_Red@hexbear.net 22 points 1 week ago

The pilot had take a leak and opened the cockpit to wiz, making the F35 easily detectable by the trail of urine

[-] TankieTanuki@hexbear.net 16 points 1 week ago

It was struck like this: explosion

[-] ClathrateG@hexbear.net 16 points 1 week ago

Apparently Iran released a video of the strike, linky anyone?

[-] Blakey@hexbear.net 13 points 1 week ago

is nearly invisible to radar

uh huh

[-] Bazell@lemmy.zip 13 points 1 week ago

Sounds like a skill issue.

[-] Evilphd666@hexbear.net 12 points 1 week ago

I am surprised they are not DPRK propaganda like rejoicing how weak the weapon was / strong the single engine plane was to resist the hit and it was the blessing of the divine and testament to engineering that the Ghost of clogged shitters was able to fly back home alive.

But they decided to take the rage-cry they totaled my monies!

(Don't ask how much good 100 Million can do for your local crumbling community)

[-] 666@lemmygrad.ml 17 points 1 week ago

Why would DPRK need propaganda in that vein? It's one thing to propagandize the capabilities of your craft/weapons, but I don't see how they would be overexaggerating or how anything relating to divine has to do with it. They have capable, sufficient and quite frankly, working, deterrence against the United States.

[-] Speaker@hexbear.net 12 points 1 week ago

I think they're referring to the imperial propaganda about DPRK, which depicts DPRK as a backwards hermit kingdom that is simultaneously an existential threat to Amerikkka.

[-] Damarcusart@hexbear.net 14 points 1 week ago

Fascists can only really have two reactions to a military loss:

1: "It didn't happen, we actually were the winners."

and when they can't do that:

2: "They CHEATED at fighting! This doesn't count because it was UNFAIR!"

what are we, a bunch of asians?!
