poorly placed em-dash

that's not x, that's y

mic drop final sentence in its own paragraph

I'm not saying it's AI, but I am saying that I hope Sam Altman gets cancer for making me question virtually every string of text I see

[-] CultLeader4Hire@lemmy.world 10 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

As a person who has used em-dash style of writing for decades, because it’s correct and appropriate, I hate that AI has made me seem like a bot

[-] InvalidName2@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 week ago

AI doesn't make you seem like a bot. Honestly, you're a bit mixed up there.

The internet is packed with arrogant idiots who can't actually detect AI written content anywhere close to as well as they have deluded themselves into thinking -- they are the problem in this context.

AI was trained on the content people like you and I have been writing and posting on the internet for decades. It is AI that writes like us and uses our style, not the other way around.

No the problem is that the internet is packed with AI pig shit slop.

AI was trained on the content people like you and I have been writing and posting on the internet for decades. It is AI that writes like us and uses our style, not the other way around.

Stolen content. And all our writing is now worth so much less now because of AI slop.

[-] collapse_already@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 week ago

I feel like I was the training data. It feels like a violation of my rights. A lot of AI writing is reminiscent of my sentence structure, diction, and vocabulary. I'm sure I am not alone, but it is nice to see you echoing my sentiments.

The reason why AI uses em-dashes is because all the journalists and writers used it first.

[-] stabby_cicada@slrpnk.net 0 points 1 week ago

If there's one benefit to the rise of AI slop, it'll be pushing people away from mass social media and back to IRL meetups where you can mostly guarantee you're talking to a real person.

[-] tempest@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 week ago

It might be in your circle but I guarantee you people like my boomer parents (who are still on Twitter by the way) would not notice this at all. They might even respond.

[-] Shellofbiomatter@lemmus.org 1 points 1 week ago

I'm not a boomer or stranger to technology and i don't notice most modern AI creations, unless really looking for the telltale signs in the almost invisible details and even those are getting harder to spot.

Random ass tweet or picture doesn't deserve that time and attention to look for those details to determine whatever it's AI or man made, it's still data garbage.

[-] Quacksalber@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 week ago

As that one retired general said. We need Nuremberg-style trials. Either the democrats enact them, or the US will fall into republican-controlled dark ages.

[-] flandish@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

we’ve been in those dark ages since 1917.

[-] atomicbocks@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 week ago

We have been in those dark ages since 1492.

We have been in the dark ages since 476.

[-] TankovayaDiviziya@lemmy.world 0 points 1 week ago

Either the democrats enact them

Good luck. Dems are complicit playing good cop while the Republicans are bad cop in the service of oligarchs.

Primary the corporate Democrats with progressives. If that fails, only then a revolution will truly break the shackles of corrupt oligarchy.

[-] FiniteBanjo@feddit.online 0 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Dems haven't had more than 48 senators in over 13 years, a SCOTUS majority since 1943 at which point they were a completely different party so basically never. Things are bad now because Dems have not been given the power to stop it, because bad actors are out there spreading lies that they're just as bad.

[-] TankovayaDiviziya@lemmy.world 0 points 1 week ago

Because the Dems are not even making themselves look electable to anyone but the corporate donors.

[-] FiniteBanjo@feddit.online 0 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

This is the current party platform: LINK

If you want to tax the rich, remove money from politics, protect democracy and the constitution, stand against slave labour, etc then you need to vote DNC. It's really that simple.

Decades of vote records are available online to show these really are their stances, and that the GOP opposes every one of these things.

[-] TankovayaDiviziya@lemmy.world 0 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

The point is Dems say things but backtrack for reasons to cover their asses.

Seriously, Americans are brainwashed by corporate media. Nobody would conveniently say to primary corporate Democrats with progressives. Because let's face it, those who don't are blue MAGA and benefit from corporate greed, because they own company stocks or they don't want their property value to go down. Electing progressives would be bad for their investments, and would rather see democracy wither instead of their stock's or that of their properties.

First of all, it's because they've had 48 or less senators for over 13 years.

Secondly,

The Biden Admin created a corporate minimum tax rate and increased audits for the rich, protected pensions and overtime pay, outlawed "junk fees", and worked to achieve every union demand for rail workers. They also attempted to forgive all student debt, but each attempt was blocked by Republican state Attorney Generals for the duration of his term, so he was only able to forgive 188.8 Billion Dollars of Debt. Biden protected more federal lands than any president in the past century.

Under Obama, the DNC passed Medicaid Expansion which is now relied upon by roughly 70 Million Americans to pay for medical expenses. His FTC also investigated grocery chains for raising prices during the pandemic and keeping them there.

Clinton was responsible for the first US Government Surplus in decades and since.

In 1997 to 2003 the DNC was introducing bills to ban all non-individual spending on campaigns and to limit individual contributions, it passed and until 2007 was in effect, at which point it was dragged into court until the SCOTUS struck it down in 2010 Citizens United decision.

The DNC protected streams and forests while the GOP put a literal fucking Coal Lobbyist in charge of the EPA. This isn't even a debate, you're just full of shit.

[-] TankovayaDiviziya@lemmy.world 0 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Those are breadcrumb policies compared to the demands of people to actually make housing, cost of living and healthcare affordable. Going through dEcOrUm when the opponent doesn't even play by the rules is being complicit and bending over to them, which is the criticism on the Democrats. The Dems cave so easily and conveniently use the excuse of not controlling both houses, even though not controlling both houses has never been the issue for their Republican counterparts.

If Dems are actually serious about being opposition, they would do the same obstructionist tactics that the Republicans do. Instead, Dems play soft by watering down popular policies to appease Republicans, who never even compromise. Or they blame "not controlling both houses" as convenient "get out free from jail" card when that does not even stop Republicans.

Honestly, Americans are brainwashed by corporate media and pacified from taking action. The silly blind faith on passive electoralism by "vOtiNg lEsSeR eViL" instead of activism. The folks who ended the first Gilded age and elected the two Roosevelts will be ashamed at how spoiled and spineless their descendants have been. Because even the affluent liberals would rather see democracy end, than their property prices or stock investment go down by electing progressives. It is very telling that you never addressed about primary. So i guess you are one of the rich liberals who are pieces of shit who keep voting down affordable housing, and thereby alienating the poor and drive them towards populism we're seeing now?

[-] FiniteBanjo@feddit.online 0 points 1 week ago

Giving Healthcare to 70 Million people is not breadcrumbs, and it would have covered almost everyone if not for lone Independent holdout Joe Leiberman.

The fact that you think all progress is bullshit unless its your immediate uncompromising Utopia is idiocy.

[-] TankovayaDiviziya@lemmy.world 0 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Medicare is better than nothing, but still could be better to have more affordable healthcare, which most other countries, including poor ones, already have.

The typical mindset of "lesser evil", "perfect is the enemy of good" or "utopia is idiocy" are thought terminating clichés in other countries by guess whom? Conservatives. You probably own stocks in United Health.

[-] FiniteBanjo@feddit.online 1 points 1 week ago

Somehow you've mental gymnastics'ed your way into ignoring a core point I made in the immediate previous comment that the affordable healthcare you're describing would have been passed by the DNC if not for an independent refusing to vote for it.

[-] TankovayaDiviziya@lemmy.world 0 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

The DNC have been watering down popular policies all the time to appease their donors and use many excuses to get away from backlash. They get some Democrat members to "cross the aisle", and those individuals are conveniently either retiring or not getting elected anytime soon so they don't have to face being voted out. Most Americans see this manipulative tactic by the DNC except you and neoliberals.

[-] FiniteBanjo@feddit.online 1 points 1 week ago

The Independents have been watering down popular policies

In this case.

Sorry to hear that you oppose progress and want 70 Million people thrown off healthcare coverage.

[-] TankovayaDiviziya@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

And those 70 million prefer socialised healthcare, instead of their life being at the whim of the likes of United Healthcare who would reject their health insurance claim for breaking a toe. It's very telling you don't advocate for primarying for progressives to replace the DNC. I guess you benefit financially from the system, which is a typical conservative and neoliberal attitude that ironically empowers the far right even more.

[-] Godric@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

What insider? Which guy is 16 for 16? What source? I don't disbelieve that could happen, but I can't find anything as specific as this that back that up, and uncritically taking tweets at face value will be the death of us all.

[-] frog_brawler@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Yea I mean, if we can just track some individual’s trades… let’s do it and make it public.

[-] crapwittyname@feddit.uk 0 points 1 week ago

Exactly. Name names or fuck off

[-] Godric@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

"Name names or fuck off"

I want to have this on my wall, right in eyesight of my reading chair as I peruse the news each day.

Fucking based

[-] baconsunday@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 week ago

I know this is off topic, but I hate that I feel like the post was written by AI.

Not that I disagree with what the OP is pointing out, but I just hate the way AI writes lol

[-] ductTapedWindow@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 week ago

The insider trading has been out of control for a long time, but this shit with Trump and truth social posts is as blatant as can be. Of course absolutely nothing will happen to these people as they now 'have money' and are immune to the "justice" system. I don't think I'll ever see things moving in the right direction in my lifetime.

[-] Pyr_Pressure@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 week ago

Are you able to tell what this person is betting at the time of the bet? Or only after?

Cause I would just bet what ever he does if you could know beforehand.

[-] OrteilGenou@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

The good news is he bankrupts casinos. Wait, or is that the bad news?

[-] volore@scribe.disroot.org 1 points 1 week ago

sure would be nice if there were a way to track that accounts' bets and make the same ones.

[-] TherapyGary@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

There's no concrete evidence that those 16 trades were made by the same person; they're just inferring it. There is no account to track, from what I can tell- just anonymous unlinked trades

I think they're also happening on various platforms/markets/exchanges. The oil one referenced here was on a commodity futures exchange.

~~Also OP's title is misleading. The Trump family doesn't own a prediction market, but they do influence Polymarket and Kalshi, and there is a planned "Truth Predict" that's going to be like Polymarket but baked into Truth Social, but that doesn't exist yet~~

[-] stabby_cicada@slrpnk.net -1 points 1 week ago
[-] Stern@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

On one hand jfc, on the other, you'd think people would stop betting on world events, killing that line of gambling on Kalshi, when we now have multiple pieces of evidence of manipulation.

[-] CultLeader4Hire@lemmy.world 0 points 1 week ago

I don’t understand why 1) people are using a service they know is rigged due to insider info 2) simply not following/watching these accounts and copying them

Granted I don’t gamble and don’t know much about this specific platform but it seems silly to be blindly betting with in this set up?

[-] stabby_cicada@slrpnk.net -1 points 1 week ago

For one, some people don't know it's rigged, while others think they can guess how it's rigged and profit off it. I saw it a lot when I followed cryptocurrency scams - thousands of people bought into obvious pump and dump schemes because they thought they could time the dump and cash out before it hit. And even during the old analog days, tens of thousands of people bought into obvious pyramid schemes because they thought they were early enough to make a profit before the scheme collapsed.

The old saying "you can't cheat an honest man" has a lot of truth to it, and degenerate gamblers are gonna gamble degenerately.

And for the prediction markets and the insider trading, it's because people can't. The online stuff uses anonymous throwaway accounts, and the more traditional insider stock trading only gets noticed when (if) the insider publicly reports their stock trades months or years later.

The online stuff uses anonymous throwaway accounts

In that case, how do we know this particular insider is 16/16 and $170m up?

[-] stabby_cicada@slrpnk.net -2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

I had a theory about multiple accounts being connected to the same person and how they'd use that to hide their insider trading, but I did some digging, and in this case the trader is a single anonymous account which has a pattern of making winning bets - 16 of them - based on things Trump does:

https://www.binance.com/en/square/post/309527584561937

https://x.com/Mrminick_/status/2041170962368844105

So, yeah, you could make money by following this account and doing what it does, presuming you knew it had insider information, and presuming it doesn't shut down now that people know it has insider information. After all, you want people to bet against you, and nobody wants to bet against the person with insider info, right?

Also, here's an article with examples of apparent insider trading on oil futures, and explaining some of the ways multiple accounts can be connected to the same (anonymous) people:

https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/markets/insider-trading-claims-after-stock-and-oil-futures-surged-minutes-before-trump-s-iran-post

An llm wrote that reply. Fucking shhor me this is such horribly obvious writing. It's not blah, it's blah .
