I have a strange type of social anxiety that keeps me from playing multiplayer games online with anyone other than people I know in person because I feel like I'm going to group with one of these weirdos and then get stuck with them following me around or messaging me constantly lol

I know it's an irrational fear, but my brain is dumb.

[-] the_joeba@lemmy.world 33 points 10 months ago

It's not irrational, you aren't dumb. I feel the same. I still don't want to play with you.

[-] Ilflish@lemm.ee 6 points 10 months ago

Weirdly I have no problem with being left with people I've never met as long as I know someone and they introduce us. If a friend trusts us together, we can skip the awkward feeling out steps

But then I'll hurt their feelings 😅

Kid with machete? Totally normal.

Dude in a robe waving guns around? Also normal.

Biting a face into a pancake and wearing it on your face so you can chug maple syrup? Totally understandable. But I would go with the real stuff personally.

BUT! Why does the person in a furry mask have someone tied up under a table in what looks like a basement though? Is this a new sex thing kids are into?

[-] Notorious@lemmy.world 22 points 10 months ago

I believe it's called "methusexual"

[-] WillFord27@lemmy.world 5 points 10 months ago

That isnt just any dude. That dude is Harry fucking Potter

[-] PlantDadManGuy@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago

No big deal. I tied like five people to a table at my last SBBQ

[-] timgrant@ttrpg.network 1 points 10 months ago

I'm looking at the kid with the machete, and feeling pretty judged.

Maybe OP just hates plaid?

[-] Wandering_Uncertainty@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

Or maybe it's a joke on a kid pretending they're an adult and ready for a TTRPG with adults? Because that is definitely annoying. I haven't played random online pickup games in forever, but I was extremely opposed to playing with kids, for many reasons. Teaching them how to play is one thing - I helped run a DnD club at the school I work at - but that's definitely sharing the hobby rather than games that I actually enjoy for myself.

[-] timgrant@ttrpg.network 2 points 10 months ago

OP is getting advice from Mom on what to do with his spare time, which isn't exactly exuding mature grownup adult vibes.

Maybe the pic should instead have a picture of a grownup who's extremely opposed to playing with kids for many reasons?

Yeah seconded. Whats the problem of a cocked up gun dual wielding wizard, hmm ?

[-] Szymon@lemmy.ca 21 points 10 months ago

cocked up

That's a different movie than the one I remember

[-] sammytheman666@ttrpg.network 9 points 10 months ago

Tell me harry doesnt look like he snorted one line too many

[-] BarrelAgedBoredom@lemm.ee 6 points 10 months ago

Cocked= slang for loading a gun or some sort of phallic reference. Coked up= high on cocaine

[-] sammytheman666@ttrpg.network 4 points 10 months ago

Well, he IS holding guns. Sorry, english isnt my first, thank you for the definitions :)

[-] BarrelAgedBoredom@lemm.ee 3 points 10 months ago

No worries! English is a bastard language that makes no sense lol

[-] sammytheman666@ttrpg.network 1 points 10 months ago

Laughts in french

For reals. English is way simpler when compared to french. But Im sure every language has his quirks

[-] starman2112@sh.itjust.works 20 points 10 months ago

The meaning of this meme flips if you assume that's the players' characters instead of the players

[-] The_Vampire@lemmy.world 9 points 10 months ago

Yeah, as a DM if these were player characters I would be ecstatic. I always have trouble pulling creative ideas out of my players, even if those creative ideas are borrowed.

[-] deft@ttrpg.network 14 points 10 months ago

tbh best groups i played with were through roll20

playing with your friends, coworkers, etc is worse. people often only join cause 2-3 of us wanna play but they're halfway in mentally and not actually motivated to play.

on roll20 everyone is here to play

[-] sammytheman666@ttrpg.network 7 points 10 months ago

Yup. I will take a player rather than a friend to play. A player will become a friend. A friend might not end up as a ayer

[-] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.world 8 points 10 months ago

Second kid looks like he's a creative thinker that knows what he wants and how to achieve it. Seems like an asset for a D&D group if he's not also an asshole 🤷

[-] Gradually_Adjusting@lemmy.world 7 points 10 months ago

These normies wouldn't stand a chance with me

[-] frauddogg@lemmygrad.ml 6 points 10 months ago

Shit I gotta vibe-check other players as a player; if your table gives me Elder Scrolls racist vibes, I can't be fuckin with it

[-] sammytheman666@ttrpg.network 3 points 10 months ago

I mean... its possible to play a character that is racist, but like evil characters I wouldnt trust a first time player doing it.

Even Gimli and Legolas were racists after all

[-] frauddogg@lemmygrad.ml 3 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

Oh no, I think you misunderstand my meaning-- when I say "elder scrolls racists", I mean like-- have you ever seen how the comment sections for those AI voice Dagoth Ur videos always end up bleeding to a point where people are saying Stormfront-level shit but swapping "jews" for $pickAnElderScrollsSpecies? The people who always seem to have a lazy fill-in for a fantasy race that sounds like it was lifted part and parcel from the things 4channers like to say about existent minorities? That. If your table feels like that, I ain't fuckin with it.

[-] sammytheman666@ttrpg.network 4 points 10 months ago

Im sorry, but I didnt understood what you said. But Ill trust you.

[-] sirblastalot@ttrpg.network 1 points 10 months ago

Honestly the bottom right is probably pretty fun to game with, and I think I am the bottom left.
