Mates, makeup ain’t for y’all. You know how you spent eight hours messing with your .bashrc or rolling for counter strike skins or whatever weirdass hobby you have? You don’t do it because you are trying to attract women - you see your friends get into something cool and you get competitive with them. That’s what it is for the womenfolk. They get their nails did and do weird ass makeup looks because it’s a fun hobby. They know that you probably don’t care about the difference between coffin and ballerina nails. But their friends do, and they want to show off, because it’s fun.

[-] 0x0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 154 points 1 year ago

Wow, this is a wake up call. I have been wasting my time on this .bashrc file.

[-] metaStatic@kbin.social 31 points 1 year ago

Time I enjoy wasting isn't wasted time ... so yeah, totally wasted on .bashsrc, but the programmer socks make up for it.

Yeah women spend an hour on makeup before their shitty job they hate every morning because they just like it as a fun thing to do, totally nothing to do with societal pressures of beauty, it's just a fun thing most women like to do to entertain themselves at 6am when they ain't getting enough sleep as is.

[-] LadyAutumn@lemmy.blahaj.zone 19 points 1 year ago

Yeah you're right women only put makeup on for work and never do it cause they want to, never use colors or styles they think are pretty, never take pictures of their makeup done to show to their friends, spend 0 time in communities dedicated to discussing techniques and styles that are popular

You're totally right we all only do it cause of social obligations and hate doing it

Man she'd be really hot if her eyelashes were longer.

There. I just said it. Now this post is a LIE

No but they absolutely do say, "Wow you look really pretty today" but have no idea why.

Men treat you nicer when you wear makeup.

The other day my coworker said, "you look different. I don't know what it is, but you look great. I think you've been getting a lot of rest" nope. Just wore makeup that day

My husband, many times, has been looking at me, admiring me, and complimenting me on how naturally beautiful I am without realizing I just filled my eyebrows in that day and have darker lashes rather than blonde lashes.

Just because men have the privilege of ignorance doesn't mean they aren't attracted to made up faces.

[-] MrSqueezles@lemm.ee 17 points 1 year ago

I believe the post is specifically about long eyelashes, fake eyelashes.

That said, my wife has worn makeup twice in 18 years. I love her for being herself, but I complimented her on how nice she looked those two times her sister did her makeup because I'm not a complete jerk and have some idea of how to be kind when someone has spent an hour trying to look nice. I also attempted to make it clear that I preferred her without makeup, maybe something along the lines of, "I love how naturally beautiful you are."

Just because some women consider men to be ignorant doesn't mean we are.

Most men have no idea what they actually like. I'd be willing to bet most wouldn't be able to identify light mascara even if they saw it applied

[-] MarmaladeMermaid@lemm.ee 66 points 1 year ago

Agree. Men who go out of their way to evaluate women’s appearances and say they like women with no makeup generally mean they prefer it when women are level ten makeup astronauts who make full face look like “I just woke up this way!”

That said, the full-set lakes that make it visibly hard for a person to blink look really uncomfortable, and that makes me vicariously uncomfortable.

To say it differently, you don't ask a fish how to go fishing. They would just say "be a delicious worm or bug" and have no concept of rods, reels, locations, or any of the skills involved in actually fishing.

hey so this might come as a surprise to some guys but actually most of the time women put effort into their appearance for themselves, so they feel confident, and comfortable in their bodies.

this post is reeking of Jordan Peterson's women wear makeup because they want to fuck me energy

[-] tryptaminev@feddit.de 59 points 1 year ago

You cannot not communicate, the societal notion as to which is "good looks" for women is strongly sexualized and children are exposed to these notions from an early age. Also the subtle or less subtle social pressure plays a big role in it. A friend of mine moved from a "posh" city to mine. She said she didn't dare going out without putting on makeup for two hours because she would get bad looks in the street otherwise and it took her a long time to unlearn that.

So while it isn't women wearing make up because they want to fuck, the social construction that makes them feel less confident and less comfortable without make up is revolving around that and it is part of the problem. It is not that women just feel more confident with make up. It is that they feel less confident without it, because they are pressured to feel so.

[-] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 23 points 1 year ago

Sure, but that doesn't explain things like elaborately decorated nails. Women aren't doing that to attract men. They're doing it because they like the way it looks and they feel like it's a way of expressing themselves.

[-] Colalextrast@lemmynsfw.com 21 points 1 year ago

Two things can be true. Makeup can be a healthy form of self-expression for people who use it AND a brick in the overall wall that is gendered oppression.

And yet men go for the women with long eyelashes. Just because men aren't aware of it doesn't mean the women's moves don't work.

But even if they didn't, imagine this: Women can change the way they look entirely without wanting to look hotter for men. Shocking, I know.

I knew a girl with thin eyelashes in junior high/high school. She got made fun of for it a lot, by both girls and boys. So, I'm guessing some girls want thick lashes because they learned the hard way that guys do indeed care, and unfortunately society cares in general.

I think girls who get long eyelashes do it because they like how they look.

And thank god if they do because I would hate a woman who only cares about what other people think of her looks.

How egotistic do you have to be to think that your opinion is warranted with regards to women's appearance? Good for you if you think you don't like lashes. No one asked, and I'd be willing to bet you'd see a woman with full face on including lashes or mascara and think she looks great. 🙄

The men in this thread calling women repulsive for wearing lashes are unbelievable. Imagine saying something so horrible to someone about an aspect of their appearance you personally think you don't like. And then you wonder why no one wants to date you. So fucking sad that the endless male commentary on women's bodies can make it to c/all and see so much support here.

As a dude, I want women to use this meme format for guys.

Something like, "No woman cares about your shuriken collection". (Wow writing it out loud, I attacked myself....)

Isn't this like CGI? If done right you don't see it?

[-] outer_spec@lemmy.blahaj.zone 44 points 1 year ago

no woman has ever said "these fake eyelashes are ugly as fuck but if i wear them i bet dudes will find me hot"

true story...

[-] 9thSun@midwest.social 44 points 1 year ago

Gotdamn yall. Some men think it's hot, some men don't. Some women do wear makeup for others, some women don't. More broadly, no one group does anything for a single reason so we need to stop being so combative online about shit posts.

[-] Femcowboy@lemm.ee 39 points 1 year ago

No dude has ever said "she'd look hotter if her lips and cheeks were redder," either but ya'll would cry if we stopped wearing lipstick and blush. Quit your bullshit.

[-] the_brownie@lemm.ee 32 points 1 year ago

Seriously. I'm sure some people will hyperfixate on the lipstick/rouge example you gave, but generally many guys don't understand or think about makeup and thus have no awareness of how it impacts how they're attracted to people. And then they have the gall to lecture others about what works and what doesn't.

Also shoutout to some of the straight up sexist replies in this thread. Nice to see a sizable chunk of reddit neckbeards made their way over here.

[-] TopRamenBinLaden@sh.itjust.works 19 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

I would say it is kind of sexist to state that all men would cry if women stopped wearing blush and lipstick, and that we don't realize what we are attracted to. We aren't a hivemind. I personally prefer natural over makeup.

That being said, yea some of these replies are douchey as hell, and I'm sorry for women who have to deal with that bullshit.

Fun fact. Men have actually on average longer eyelashes than women. It makes sense when you think about the fact that their hormones promote men's hair growth.

That means eyelashes, ironically enough, are a masculine feature.

[-] CodingCarpenter@lemm.ee 17 points 1 year ago

Could you tell that to the hair in my head that slowly disappearing? Although I do have very long eyelashes..

I've never said those words, but eye lash extensions do it for me. It's not often that I notice it, but when I start getting that junior high crush feeling for women I interact with, I usually notice they have the fake eyelashes going.

[-] StephniBefni@lemmy.world 28 points 1 year ago

Damn good thing I don't put make up and stuff on for them, I do it for me.

[-] explodicle@local106.com 28 points 1 year ago

Man, that guy would be so much hotter with a loose toupee.

[-] mechoman444@lemmy.world 27 points 1 year ago

Or: man she looks way hotter with her lips ready to explode from the collagen injected into them to make him look more full!

Ladies please stop doing this it is not more attractive!

Things can affect your perception of someone even if you don't consciously notice them; some things are specifically intended to affect your perception of someone without being consciously noticed.

As a man with glamorously long natural eyelashes, it is not all its cracked up to be either. They get all criss/crossed and bent so they drag ever so slightly on my cornea and since it didn't fully fall out I just keep rubbing the eye trying to dislodge it and end up just irritating it more.

Fuck eyelashes, they're another annoying "feature" of the human body. Just like making the air and food hole join and be controlled with a flimsy meat flap. Or putting the male g spot in the ass.

If this is all a simulation, someone is having a riot of a time messing with mods and screwing with character gen.

Irrelevant. It’s for the aesthetic. Some girls like doing hair, others makeup/lashes etc, others fashion. All are expressions of self beauty, not particularly for someone else imo. But this is shitpost so….

[-] Obonga@feddit.de 21 points 1 year ago

People that make statements on behalf of all people in a large group are weird, to put it politely.

[-] spookedbyroaches@lemm.ee 17 points 1 year ago
