Moments later: Oops you are banned for totally good reasons that are not worth explaining.

[-] yamapikariya@lemmyfi.com 33 points 11 months ago

A website I had several years ago once got YouTuber coverage and unfortunately after it got popular the free hosting people took it down and held my site for ransom essentially.

[-] Slow@lemmy.today 23 points 11 months ago

I had a gaming forum where I and a few friends talked. It complied with all the free hosting rules, but a few months later it was deleted along with the account. It was a Freewha hoster.

If Netflix can call an existing series to which they bought the rights a "Netflix Original", then this dude can host you a free website for 1$+.

[-] Kalothar@lemmy.ca 7 points 11 months ago

What series are you talking about? Legit asking, because that’s hilarious and bold

[-] Bumblefumble@lemm.ee 7 points 11 months ago

A lot of them. Like arrested development for example.

[-] hangonasecond@lemmy.world 5 points 11 months ago

Isn't the "Netflix original" the extra season they commissioned? I don't doubt the veracity of the claim but Arrested Development probably isn't the best example. I guess you could argue it's a generous use of the word "original" though.

[-] irmoz@reddthat.com 6 points 11 months ago

Black Mirror, for one

[-] andthenthreemore@startrek.website 4 points 11 months ago

In the UK the Expanse was one when they had the rights to it over here.

[-] ekky43@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

I was thinking about Knights of Sidonia. ~~They bough the rights while second season was being made, and while I'm not sure whether they also Labelled the first season as Netflix Original,~~ they at least took it down from everywhere and instead put it on their own site.

EDIT: Correction, as far as I can see, they bought the rights a month after the first season finished airing, and they did call the first season a Netflix Origin.

When the second season aired, I got pretty butthurt that I not only couldn't see the new season on other sites than Netflix, but I couldn't even see the first season anymore!

aka 1&1.. stay away. very far away.

[-] all4one@lemmy.zip 1 points 11 months ago

What's wrong with them? They're my domain registrar as well as a couple other things.

[-] Nyfure@kbin.social 3 points 11 months ago

Basically: everything is extra and this almost illegal marketing everywhere.
Go to Netcup or Hetzner if you have the money, much better quality.
Even Contabo is better, but if you cac, go for Netcup if you want best bang for buck that works.

[-] funny@lemmus.org 2 points 11 months ago
[-] TWeaK@lemm.ee 2 points 11 months ago

That was my guess.

[-] BiggestBulb@kbin.social 7 points 11 months ago

If you're looking for a free site hosting service, fly.io might be what you're looking for. I've been using them a little while and their service is pretty great (though the monitoring kinda sucks)

[-] milicent_bystandr@lemm.ee 4 points 11 months ago

Hosting for free websites only.

[-] elxeno@lemm.ee 4 points 11 months ago

Free as in "free lunch"

[-] FrankTheHealer@lemmy.world 3 points 11 months ago

Free as in Freedom, but not free as in beer?

[-] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 1 points 11 months ago

In today's economy that's pretty close to free

[-] Buddahriffic@lemmy.world 2 points 11 months ago

Some fucking business major gave free a non-zero value and now inflation applies to it.
