What's wrong with his head? It looks so uncanny

[-] bstix@feddit.dk 77 points 10 months ago

His head is overinflated with the self-indulgent smugness that comes from downloading Linux several times daily.

[-] MajorHavoc@programming.dev 15 points 10 months ago

If I had a nickel for every time someone said that about me...

Well, I would have ten cents. But you have to admit it's weird that it happened twice.

[-] JackGreenEarth@lemm.ee 8 points 10 months ago

I was looking confused at that for a while, thinking "Isn't a nickel 10 cents?" Then I realised that was a dime.

[-] The_Picard_Maneuver@startrek.website 21 points 10 months ago

Maybe it's the perspective, but it looks like an adult man's head on a kid's body.

[-] acockworkorange@mander.xyz 11 points 10 months ago

The head is perfectly cromulent.

[-] Plavatos@sh.itjust.works 10 points 10 months ago

Using Linux embiggens the smallest head

[-] Odo@lemmy.world 8 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

Man, even in the source video he looks like a kid with a man's head. Creepy.

righto, no cans

[-] Allero@lemmy.today 27 points 10 months ago

Unironically yes. Switching to Linux gave so much peace of mind through this wave of enshittification. I know my system will remain user-centric for eternity to come, and will work in my interests.

[-] AntY@lemmy.world 23 points 10 months ago

I had to use a Windows 11 computer a couple of days ago. I can identify with this meme.

[-] SubArcticTundra@lemmy.ml 21 points 10 months ago

I love watching other peoppe suffer

[-] HotPurplePeach@lemmy.world 14 points 10 months ago

Yep, I'm so happy when I hear how shitty Win 11 is. Enjoy your ads, currency exchange rates that for some reason cycle on the taskbar, traffic information, and what not.

[-] const_void@lemmy.ml 5 points 10 months ago

Don't forget inflated hardware requirements and links to Copilot shoved into every possible place!

[-] HotPurplePeach@lemmy.world 6 points 10 months ago

Oh yes, the "AI", how could I forget. All aboard the hype train!

Yeah no, I don't care personally. However when I inevitably play tech support it sucks.

[-] Fudoshin@feddit.uk 17 points 10 months ago

This happens with age. After multiple cycles of FOMO driven by the pushing of consumer demand you eventually realise it's all bullshit and attain a state of JOMO.

It's why people chasing the latest graphics card "ray tracing" bullshit seems so pointless.

[-] ulterno@lemmy.kde.social 10 points 10 months ago

I was one of those who used to dream of real time ray tracing before it became a thing. And now that it's a thing, I feel uninterested by it (didn't event try to buy one of those GPUs. It's as if the dream was more fun to have than having it in reality.

[-] Holzkohlen@feddit.de 2 points 10 months ago

I can just emulate God of War on my Steam Deck and it looks amazing at 2x resolution. Much better than a fancy looking game that isn't fun. Looking at you Cyberpunk.

[-] KpntAutismus@lemmy.world 16 points 10 months ago

currently using Win10. i am not upgrading to 11.

once i figure out how to play games like fortnite and other anticheat games on linux, i'm honna switch over so hard.

[-] thisbenzingring@lemmy.sdf.org 6 points 10 months ago

Not all the anti cheat systems will work in Linux, some vendors will flat out ban you even when you can get the software working.

Anyways Fortnight works if you use the https://lutris.net/ system. Lutris is pretty cool, it's mostly just a frontend that does all the configuration for you. If you create an account, you can almost one click install most of your games.

[-] KpntAutismus@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

i'll try that out. once i get my full list of games working, there's just my T300 to worry about.

[-] WeLoveCastingSpellz@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 10 months ago

this answer is copypasted from my original answer to the orher fella that gave you the advice: this is wrong. Epic executives have an unressonable hate against linux, meaning they deny support for fortnite spesifically even rhpugh they can enable it.

[-] thisbenzingring@lemmy.sdf.org 1 points 10 months ago
[-] KpntAutismus@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago

gonna check that out on my mint install, thx!

[-] AVengefulAxolotl@lemmy.world 5 points 10 months ago

2 years left still. Hopefully by that time Linux gains enough popularity that developers consider supporting it. At the very least Ubuntu.

For people who apparently want to disconnect, they sure seem to obsess about it a lot.

It's like all the people from Team Fortress communities that constantly talk about Overwatch, while the Overwatch communities just kind of... exist.

[-] WhiskyTangoFoxtrot@lemmy.world 29 points 10 months ago

Considering how pretty much all of the actual problems with Linux are due to the fact that many software and hardware vendors don't support it due to low market share, it makes sense that we'd be aware of what the OS with the vast majority of the market share is doing. I'd love to "disconnect" from Windows entirely and not care about it, similarly to how I couldn't tell you what version Mac OS is on right now, but we're not there yet.

Windows users are missing out on nice Desktops like Gnome and KDE

[-] Holzkohlen@feddit.de 3 points 10 months ago

How is WSL in 2024? Maybe they can finally install a good os inside their bad one.

Some of my best memories involve the sentence "Fuck it, I'll stay home".

Also, some of my worst memories involve the sentence "Fuck it, I'll stay home".

Chose your "I'll stay home" moments wisely.

Also, I have to use Win 11 atm and it will be part of my worst memories as soon as I can stop this.

[-] abfarid@startrek.website 13 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

Applies to Windows users, too, honestly.
- Sincerely, a Windows user with deactivated Windows Update.

[-] Jourei@lemm.ee 7 points 10 months ago

Windows users cry because it happens every now and then, it's not a constant. :smug:

[-] SpiceDealer@lemmy.world 7 points 10 months ago

I'm going to have to use JOMO more often.

[-] MeDuViNoX@sh.itjust.works 5 points 10 months ago

I'm a JOMOsexual.

[-] JCreazy@midwest.social 4 points 10 months ago

I have a laptop that I run Windows 10 LTSC for the rare occasion I need Windows for something.

[-] JCreazy@midwest.social 1 points 10 months ago
[-] thisbenzingring@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 10 months ago

Microsoft stops giving updates to end of life products. Unless it's LTSC 21H2, you might want to consider installing the regular release of Windows. The LTS version doesn't allow you to migrate away from it, so it won't upgrade. You have to reinstall Windows.

[-] JCreazy@midwest.social 2 points 10 months ago

It is 21H2. Plus I have no reason to ever upgrade. Windows 10 is better than Windows 11 IMHO. The specific reason I use LTSC is because it doesn't come with all the bloat that a normal install comes with.

[-] thisbenzingring@lemmy.sdf.org 4 points 10 months ago

LTS version is hardened and more secure by default. But that also makes it a pain in the ass.

If you ever do get around to upgrading and don't want the bloat, the N version is what you want. It's the European version and doesn't have any extras.

[-] JCreazy@midwest.social 2 points 10 months ago

Thanks for the tip. I haven't ran into any issues so far, but I'll keep that in mind.

[-] ordellrb@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

N Version is not ideal for Gaming, i tried it years ago and GTA 5 / Rockstar Launcher had issues with missing codec or something.

[-] thisbenzingring@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 10 months ago

Sure it is. You just have to manually install Windows Media Player and sometimes other proprietary codecs. I use Windows 11 N on my computer currently. I play games of at least 3 launchers that I can think of.

Red Dead 2, GTA 4 & 5, I have played these games on my current system
