US Embassy officials have admitted to providing Suharto with lists of Communists who were rounded up and executed. Like, that's on Wikipedia.

[-] BovineUniversity@hexbear.net 38 points 2 years ago

They provided lists for awareness. Who could've known the Indonesians would act completely independently to murder them?

The fact that this book only got praise by the US intelligencia for being completely factual yet most liberals straight up ignore absolutely everything it says is very telling about why straight up censorship is less effective than bourgeois control painted in fake freedom

It was also written about something that happened so long ago liberals will go "ok, yeah, but that was back then."

if you talk about the CIA kidnapping torturing and murdering civilians and otherwise "not convicted of crimes" people they'll usually just outright deny it. if you bring up Guantanamo or Abu Ghraib and the CIA and US military crimes committed you might get a mix of "ok that was 20 years ago" and still others "that's unproven."

Btw I always gotta mention because the press totally buried this story and we never got much more juice due to the nature of it

but Abu Ghraib was very obviously being used as a CIA torture site and then any resulting bodies of victims were easily "laundered" (or "ghosted" as the CIA called it) in with prisoner deaths and such. The media focused heavily on the sensational aspects such as the gross sexual acts comitted by the soldiers. Which was definitely worthy of covering, obviously.

They mostly ignored or mentioned only in passing that one of the photos was of a dead body which had begun decompossing in the prison (his name was Manadel al-Jamadi). The body showed obvious signs of torture like cuts, burns, bruised face and was brought there, according to the soldiers, from like a hut or whatever that was outside of the prison but on the same grounds. It was a well known CIA post of sorts by the soldiers who had to remain distant from it. Many of them reported men being taken there and never coming back. And reported these bodies showing up in the piles of other bodies from prisoners dying from other causes.

No one ever properly investigated the CIA for what is totally known to be at least one clear and obvious torture/murder with a ton of evidence from the photo to the journalist and soliders at the prison. A small amount of pressure and digging would've uncovered these tapes the CIA said it had of torture session and then claimed to have destroyed (I'm pressing X to doubt. that shit exists somewhere). But the media stopped pressuring when Obama was in and nothing came of it ultimately. The low level soliders got small sentences probably mostly for embarrassing tbe CIA not for any torture and crimes they comitted. Their entire job WAS to torture after all...

fucking libs

The fact it happens on Cuban land pisses me off the most. These coward fucks need to soothe their soulless husks at night so they illegally occupy someone’s land and legally become serial killers, so nothing bad is happening! Otherwise the courts would’ve demanded us to stop!

Why is slaughter in quotation marks?

[-] BurgerPunk@hexbear.net 49 points 2 years ago

us-foreign-policy and the fact they were communists

[-] RamrodBaguette@hexbear.net 28 points 2 years ago

Except for a good portion if not even majority of the victims.

[-] hglman@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 years ago

Because you can never admit anything.

[-] goose@hexbear.net 57 points 2 years ago

Saying """""slaughter""""" in the smarmiest, most sarcastic voice I can muster, rolling my eyes and doing air quotes with my fingers

[-] RION@hexbear.net 54 points 2 years ago

Donald Trump did not commit insurrection at the capital. He was, however, aware of the "riot" by the angry mob he had encouraged to reject the results of the 2020 election.

The scare quotes around slaughter are the icing on the cake

[-] Adkml@hexbear.net 46 points 2 years ago

Those community notes went to shit in like 48 hours it's hilarious to see libs treat them like gospel still

[-] Barabas@hexbear.net 17 points 2 years ago

Saw the lib posting about the pro-Palestine sentiment being entirely based on that all of Indonesia are evil far right islamists and history had nothing to do with this in response.

"Your honor, I merely tied the damsel to train tracks whilst a train was approaching. I did not squash her, nor did I smear her entrails on the tracks. The train did that. If you must prosecute someone for this regrettable incident, let it be the heinous conductor"

The CIA is just into genocide voyeurism.
