It's a stiff competition, but the idea that women are biologically incapable of flying airplanes has got to be one of the dumbest right-wing culture war talking points out there.

Edit: Also, the fact that his wife is a pilot explains a lot; I don't know how anyone could tolerate being married to The Quartering if they weren't away from home all the time.

One of the wierd things I hyperfocus on is aviation disasters. I know way too much about plane crashes and am always learning more.

Men are so much more likely to cause plane crashes, mainly because they are overconfident. Take the worst airplane crash of all time, 1977 in Tenerife. The KLM pilot was impatient and overconfident. He rushed takeoff in zero visibility and got 583 people killed. His copilot did not push back on the impatient pilot, mainly because he was a poster boy for KLM. The pilot was featured in their brochure as an expert aviator and it made him a bit of a celebrity in the company. His ego, and it being fed by KLM, got hundreds killed.

The last thing you want in aviation is an overconfident older white guy flying.

For all the incidents of human error, I've read so little about big disasters. Men refusing to admit they feel scared when a part that breaks or so desperate to prove they're masculine that they crash into another place in midair.

There's never like an investigation into the human component of the disaster. Just don't do what this person did. Without any context. This is such a fascinating dimension.

yeah and the fact that he peas in the basement

[-] D61@hexbear.net 4 points 6 months ago

So... does she keep him locked down there while she is away at work?

[-] regul@hexbear.net 65 points 6 months ago

Affects him personally so he's against it.

[-] Erika3sis@hexbear.net 53 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)

Female pilots? What's wrong with female pilots‽ I'M married to a female pilot! ...Hey that fellow's talkin' about me!

And that makes a difference, doesn't it?

[-] NephewAlphaBravo@hexbear.net 30 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)

ah fuck what's this from, I can't place it

[-] Erika3sis@hexbear.net 39 points 6 months ago
[-] TraschcanOfIdeology@hexbear.net 10 points 6 months ago

I haven't watched it in a long time but isn't it very anticommunist? Like, the "suckers" are people who believe in communist ideologies?

[-] Erika3sis@hexbear.net 27 points 6 months ago

...No??? The "suckers" are nazis. You're probably confusing this for a different American propaganda film.

[-] TraschcanOfIdeology@hexbear.net 20 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)

Probably, my bad! I've watched so many old propaganda films that they all blur into one.

[-] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 10 points 6 months ago

Don't be a Sucker is shockingly good

It’s sad that I only know about this from a Fine Bros react video lol

[-] ElChapoDeChapo@hexbear.net 48 points 6 months ago

Honestly after watching the Chapo episode on lady ballers I have to agree with their conclusion, conservatives hate cisgender women more than they hate trans people

Thinking that women are biologically inferior is a core part of their disturbed worldview

[-] HelltakerHomosexual@hexbear.net 42 points 6 months ago

conservatives hate cisgender women more than they hate trans people

I would hesitate to say this, because they want to erase us from existence

[-] ElChapoDeChapo@hexbear.net 34 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)

True, it is kinda different

They don't want to genocide cis women but they do want to enslave cis women

Honestly I probably should've found a way to word that better

Maybe it's more like their belief in women being inferior fuels their transphobia and vice versa

[-] Cromalin@hexbear.net 35 points 6 months ago

Maybe it's more like their belief in women being inferior fuels their transphobia and vice versa

this is actually a really good way of thinking about it, it's called transmisogyny theory. basically transphobia is motivated by both the idea that masculinity is better than femininity and the idea that male and female are exclusive categories. when someone breaks that boundary it's always met with hostility, and doubly so for people who are moving into the "inferior" category. i just started julia serano's whipping girl and it's very good and gets into far more detail on this than i or the wiki article can
theory-gary

[-] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 29 points 6 months ago

Hence trans men being totally not even considered by chuds

[-] driving_crooner@lemmy.eco.br 13 points 6 months ago

They can't directly attack cis women, but if they attack and demonize trans women, they just need to accuse a cis woman to be trans and they're free to attack them.

[-] Cromalin@hexbear.net 3 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)

i mean that's an added side benefit for these people, but phrasing it like this kind of makes it sound like they're enforcing transphobia just to hurt cis women. it's very much the opposite! cis women uphold transphobia almost if not exactly as much as cis men, and when we spend too much time emphasizing the fact that transphobia harms them as well (despite being obviously true) it erases the fact that the true target of this is always trans women

[-] Poogona@hexbear.net 34 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)

Unrelated to the issue at hand but why does the Quartering's pfp upset me so much? Like I pause and have a distinct "god that annoys me" every time I see it and I was feeling that before I even knew anything about his dumbass spewing on social media

[-] zed_proclaimer@hexbear.net 36 points 6 months ago

It combines two annoying things. Overdone minimalist logos and opinionated internet beard guy

[-] Poogona@hexbear.net 16 points 6 months ago

I hope it's as logical as that, I worry my unkempt ass is too harsh towards people having a little pride in their appearance

Then again this guy sucks ass so I'll indulge a little and say that he probably LOVES his little beard and coiffed hair combo while he simultaneously posts about how western society has become too vain

[-] hungrybread@hexbear.net 7 points 6 months ago

I worry my unkempt ass is too harsh towards people having a little pride in their appearance

I feel this, its such a weird knee jerk reaction. Now I'm actively trying to encourage myself to be a bit more "presentable" and wows it's a pain. I'm putting the bar on the floor and it's still so annoying. So, uh, kudos to all yall that groom to whatever standard makes you happy, I guess

[-] driving_crooner@lemmy.eco.br 6 points 6 months ago

It's looks like a generic hipster hairdresser logo.

[-] axont@hexbear.net 34 points 6 months ago

this reminds me of that one phrenologist from like 1857 who said women shouldn't ride in trains because the speed would make their uterus fall out

Oh no, not women, that's the sex gender!

[-] zifnab25@hexbear.net 26 points 6 months ago

Somehow managed to hit this guy right in the "My black wife is a pilot" sweet spot.

[-] Zuzak@hexbear.net 22 points 6 months ago

I never thought leopards would eat my wife's face

[-] Tankiedesantski@hexbear.net 19 points 6 months ago

I honestly wonder about the women who marry and stay married to these types of public misogynists and racists. Especially WoC married to a dude who is both.

Now I know real life is more complex than a reddit tier "dump his ass" but... Dump is ass.

[-] Amir@lemmy.ml 7 points 6 months ago

Usually they're just as racist

[-] Cysioland@lemmygrad.ml 15 points 6 months ago

The community note is cherry on top.

[-] Tabitha@hexbear.net 8 points 6 months ago

I hate clickbait in general, so that's a nice addition.

[-] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 15 points 6 months ago

Woman can't fly a plane because she's too busy being godless and hailing Satan. When they do the head check of souls on board she laughs and sternly rebukes the flight attendant that's there's no such THING as souls, muahaha

[-] Stanley_Pain@lemmy.dbzer0.com 14 points 6 months ago

I can't be the only person that can't parse wtf is even going on here.

Some alt text anyone?

[-] regul@hexbear.net 42 points 6 months ago

Some chud account posted that black women are becoming airline pilots, with the implication being that this is because of woke and will result in countless deaths because everyone knows women can't drive [planes].

The Quartering, another chud who hates women, is mad that anyone would ever impeach the abilities of female pilots, because apparently his wife is one.

This probably marks the first time in history that the Quartering has ever defended the equality of women.

[-] Stanley_Pain@lemmy.dbzer0.com 12 points 6 months ago

Thanks. I couldn't make out that the person in the image was black. Makes more sense now.

[-] FunkyStuff@hexbear.net 21 points 6 months ago

Original tweet by Lauren Witzke:
[video of Black woman pilot performing her job normally]
caption: As your silver-haired Maverick pilots retire, meet his new replacement...

Twitter community context:
This pilot is doing nothing wrong in this clip.
[link to FAA regulations]

Quartering reply:
I don't see anything wrong here. Are you made [sic, probably meant mad] because it's a black female? My wife is a pilot and at no point did she get reduced requirements. At no point did she not have to pass the same requirements as any man.

My explanation:
The original tweet was implicitly complaining about diversity, equity, and inclusion policies that may have led to this woman being hired. It belongs to a very common genre of post wherein online reactionaries lament the fall of western society before the... same people that have already been doing lots of jobs for decades or centuries. The Quartering is a political commentator/manchild who often makes videos ranting about the same phenomenon, except when it comes to movie characters. The irony of the situation is that the Quartering is the last person you'd ever expect to call out the blatant racebaiting and misogyny in the original tweet.

Latest frothingfash target is DEI programs that are trying to undo the blantant racism and sexism in hiring practices that maintained certain ingrained industries a supermajority white male. Pilots are like 90% white male.

The CHUDs lean into ugentics in that women and minority are of inferior intellect and also how dare a white male ever be subordinate to a woman or POC. So they fear monger that if you see a woman or POC in the cockpit, the plane's safety is compromised as a DEI hire despite equal meritorious qualification tests.

This also papers over the hyper crap-it-all-ist safety issues currently going on with Boeing's quality control. It projects to protect the patriarchy. It pushes eugenics and white male supremacy.

[-] Anne_Teefa@hexbear.net 12 points 6 months ago

How does he have a wife?

[-] NewLeaf@hexbear.net 9 points 6 months ago

I want my pilots to be drunk and sexist! This is America, jack!
