OP: Mind adding a spoiler with the answer, for those clueless like me?

If i was to guess, there a probably a ton of Bat species we do not know about, that are separated by such minute differences that to play the guessing game would be harrowing.

Or the scientific names are really large

Holy shit

The second largest order of mammals after rodents, bats comprise about 20% of all classified mammal species worldwide, with over 1,400 species

Also

So I guess the real question is what’s your favourite species of rodent (of the 2,276)?

This is why I visit this site.

what’s your favourite species of rodent?

Jerry. Easy.

[-] yardy_sardley@lemmy.ca 10 points 7 months ago

Not OP but I read somewhere that 20% of mammal species are bats. So you're probably right.

Clearly referencing the fact that bats are bugs, and so it's a trick question since we're supposed to be thinking of animals

fun fact, insects are animals

[-] iiGxC@slrpnk.net 5 points 7 months ago

Fuck, nevermind then idk

I know this is true by most definitions but to me it never felt true. Insects are distinct from animals in my head.

fun fact, bats are members of the Sctrotifera clade, along with some other mammals that have scrotums. Interestingly, primates are not members of this clade.

[-] leftzero@lemmynsfw.com 4 points 7 months ago

Wait, does that mean that we evolved our scrotums independently from other mammals..?

[-] problematicPanther@lemmy.world 3 points 7 months ago

I think that's exactly what that means. I'm not a biologist though.
