This has honestly always made me pretty sad. Celebrity photos I guess I understand since they have a financial incentive, but I miss when just a normal persons skin had texture and character. Our imperfections are what make us unique and there's nothing wrong with simply being human.

Agreed. I can't help but feel like such an old man, but I really don't get it. No one believes you look like that.

My wife says she likes the wrinkles. It shows maturity, and she doesn’t want a relationship with a little boy. As for myself, I can’t say I’ve paid any specific attention to the presence or absence of wrinkles.

And if my hair goes any further, I’m going to shave it.

It's ok, I'm ready to wait few more years.

They one of those hair preserving companies like hims. Assuming you're ambivalent about it. Better to start now than never.

same thing applies to makeup, so many people think the way to go is applying it like plaster to a wall, which makes them look like a clothes store mannequin

No, it should be applied minimally so you still look like a god damn human, just a human with eyeliner or whatever

fuck influencers and magazines and whoever else pushes this idea that you need to look glossy to be attractive, god damn

[-] InquisitiveApathy@lemm.ee 3 points 10 months ago

I would be careful about telling people what they should look like. The societal pressures to look pretty is one thing, but ultimately it's their body and if they want to put a bunch of makeup on that's their right. Some people just do it because it's fun afterall. You'd also be surprised the amount of product and effort goes into a "natural" look.

Collectively though, society is not having fun. If you look at rates of depression among young people, particularly girls, the numbers have skyrocketed since the dawn of social media and a big part of that is anxiety over self-image.

It's genetic; my whole family looks like this

[-] Acters@lemmy.world 11 points 10 months ago

Holy shit little Timmy's face 🤣

[-] isles@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

My MIL's hobby was to edit pictures like this. I wish she was able to move past her trauma.

lowkey how I feel when I see AI/upscaled 60fps from 24 fps animation.

[-] RavenFellBlade@startrek.website 12 points 10 months ago

Dude looks like the love child of Odo and Burt Reynolds!

[-] ElectroLisa@lemmy.blahaj.zone 11 points 10 months ago

Sadly lots of smartphones do selfies like this by default with their "AI Ultra pixel" cameras

[-] Anticorp@lemmy.world 8 points 10 months ago

It is sad. Samsung massively over-processes pictures, and then people think the pictures look great.

[-] Bruhh@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago

Fucking tell me about it. Even disabling bixby vision enhanced thing does nothing. I've been taking videos and then capturing an image from said video.

[-] grrgyle@slrpnk.net 8 points 10 months ago

But now do it with an off-puttingly photogenic picture that's been touched up by AI

[-] kamenlady@lemmy.world 15 points 10 months ago
[-] Chainweasel@lemmy.world 28 points 10 months ago

They said "touched up by AI", this is a photo Of AI

[-] tegs_terry@feddit.uk 7 points 10 months ago

[-] DragonTypeWyvern@literature.cafe 3 points 10 months ago

That is simply a feature of becoming handsome, closeness to the ideal lifeform

[-] Daft_ish@lemmy.world 4 points 10 months ago

Where are all the glossy peoples??

[-] UltraMagnus0001@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

He still looks cool asf with the smoothing effect

[-] southsamurai@sh.itjust.works -1 points 10 months ago

Ha! Joke's on you, I don't have any pictures of me that are digital that show my face.

I'm not saying there couldn't be via public cameras, but I'm very clear to friends and family that if it isn't actual film with only physical prints, and they take my picture, I'm done. I have absolutely done exactly that twice, just talked walked away and cut contact with people that thought it was okay to try to ignore that boundary.

I know it's strange to most people, but I have never, and will never, trust "the system" to not eventually abuse any pictures anyone takes that are digital. Someone, somewhere will fuck it up. Considering all the fake porn that exists, it isn't even a future possibility, it's just a question of when it becomes a problem for the average person that their digital images are weaponized or monetized in some way that's harmful.

Facial recognition, it's inevitable that gets abused.

Having the DMV have their database is bad enough, but fuck giving in beyond that.

[-] cm0002@lemmy.world 8 points 10 months ago

Are you ~~Dale Gribble~~ Rusty Shackleford?

[-] cm0002@lemmy.world 0 points 10 months ago

Gotta say, this is pretty excessive paranoia, you should look into seeing a therapist/psychiatrist before it gets worse.

[-] southsamurai@sh.itjust.works 1 points 10 months ago

Oooh, you're one of those assholes.

[-] cm0002@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

Lol, ok, I get not wanting pictures on social media or being posted online anywhere or maybe even having it taken on a "dumb" device. But no digital pictures ever? By anyone? On any device?

That's just pure paranoia that rivals even the most paranoid cybersecurity guys I know, even they wouldn't mind a picture being taken of them. They would murder you if you put it online anywhere tho lmao

Even if the gov went full tilt insane and started targeting gays or something, they're not going to give AF if they can get a face photo of you. They're just going to grab everyone they even think is a part of who they're targeting.

The gestapo was able to grab millions upon millions of Jewish and other targets long before "digital" was even a thing
