Liberal Brain Rot (lemmy.dbzer0.com)

I'm seeing so much deflection from liberals when it comes to Biden's and democrat's support and enabling of genocide. Just basic criticism of Biden's support of Israel is met with "Trump would be worse" which basically means we should actively support the current genocidal maniac in power and deflect from any criticism of his support, thus enabling the genocide. It's pretty pathetic that's the only counter argument they have, that he is worse than Trump, but the logic of it doesn't even make sense.

Like I understand these people don't actually care about the genocide and that it's just a bad look or whatever which means they need to punch down even harder on any criticism. They see the obvious criticism and how people are disgusted with him and other democrats and are afraid that will loose them votes. They see 20% non-committed in the Minnesota primary for example where party loyalists are saying they would rather not vote for anyone than him, and it scares them. Those votes come from party loyalists and these are the people who is suppose to convince others to vote for Biden, and they can't even muster enough to do it themselves.

So I have some advice for liberals who want Biden to win. Stop deflecting and start demanding and protesting for an end to democratic support of genocide. Even if you don't actually give a shit about the genocide, more and more people are going to die, more and more horrific mass graves are going to be uncovered. Until the election it's only going to get worse not better. More and more people are going to be disgusted with the idea of voting for him. So do yourself, and everyone else, a favor and stop deflecting any criticism of Biden's genocide.

This has been so infuriating. Prior to Oct 7 I was going to vote for Biden as a harm reduction tactic. But I can't in good conscience support someone who is actively involved in genocide, which to me seems like the absolute lowest moral bar on the fucking planet, but is completely unthinkable to these people. I feel like I'm going insane.

Right? It shouldn’t need to be said but conducting a genocide is a moral event horizon. There’s no “but the other guy” beyond that. When the last Palestinian in Gaza is dead or driven away (and Israel moves onto the West Bank, let’s be real here) will it matter if Trump showboated doing it or Biden cried crocodile tears?! Of course not!

[-] roux@hexbear.net 29 points 6 months ago

This whole bullshit of lesser of 2 geriatric genociders is just so dumb. I'm probably not going to vote since I have an actual moral compass, unlike the Dem and Rep ghoul supporters. I'm looking at Claudia de la Cruz as what is possibly the actual best candidate but I doubt she will even be on the ballots in Texas. I am at least considering joining the PSL though after unofficially leaving the DSA and windowshopping CPUSA but idk yet. Fragmented leftist groups isn't great but leftist unity just seems like such a pipe dream currently.

[-] LesbianLiberty@hexbear.net 17 points 6 months ago

PSL internally's been pretty decent, everyone's nice mindful and properly prepared to do what needs to be done

[-] roux@hexbear.net 14 points 6 months ago

That's good to know. I haven't look a whole lot into it all yet but they seem very ML-focused and that's what I am after.

[-] LesbianLiberty@hexbear.net 11 points 6 months ago

Yeah they essentially are, my impression has been one of highly competent leadership, which is something I'm thankful for as god knows there's been so much shit derailed by god awful libshit.

[-] NewLeaf@hexbear.net 26 points 6 months ago

I'm glad to see people are still radicalizing. There is no harm reduction candidate in a system propped up by the same driving force: capital

They've been deflecting for Biden's worse handling of covid for years, so I guess this is no surprise, but you'd think an outright genocide that isn't an invisible air virus would be harder for them to provide cover for.

[-] emizeko@hexbear.net 23 points 6 months ago

seen mention here that more people died from COVID under Biden than Trump, anyone know a good source on that?

[-] macabrett@lemmy.ml 27 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)

It's mostly simple math. The number of people who died of covid in 2020 in the USA was about 375k. The total deaths reached over double that in 2021. So, you don't even really have to consider all the deaths in 2022/2023/2024 to find out Biden did worse. He did worse in his first year. July 4th 2021, he told people they could take their masks off if they were vaccinated and this is the result.

Here's a new story from before 2021 had even finished (so the omicron wave of winter hadn't even hit yet): https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/health/2021/11/22/covid-death-toll-vaccine-mandate-united-states/8712846002/

I hate liberals:

Despite the rising cases, fully vaccinated family members can “absolutely” enjoy the holidays together inside without wearing masks, Dr. Anthony Fauci said Sunday.

[-] Abracadaniel@hexbear.net 14 points 6 months ago

oh thank goodness! :brunch:

[-] AntiOutsideAktion@hexbear.net 13 points 6 months ago

I genuinely don't know what they're thinking with covid. Do they actually believe it's over? That it isn't a big deal now that we have a vaccine (that barely anyone gets)?

[-] NewLeaf@hexbear.net 7 points 6 months ago

I don't even think it's a matter of providing cover. It's just controlling the narrative which they obviously do really well at.

[-] Sebrof@hexbear.net 36 points 6 months ago

Trump derangement syndrome is real for these people. My older liberal friend is sweet in so many ways, but desr God she just has to bring up Trump every goddamned time any criticism of anything is brought up. It's the safety valve, scapegoat, to place all of our failures on. But we already know that about them. Really shows how limited their understanding of the world is. Almost everything she is afraid of has already come true, but she fails to see it because it didn't happen under scary Trump. Or, maybe she just doesn't care

Anyone who tries to get me to go along with genocide now is going on a big list labeled "people who are not allowed in my house or mutual aid group when shit gets worse here."

Like it sounds like a joke, but do consider it. Say Trump wins again, and starts doing all the brownshirt things you say he will.

Now you have no allies. You burned your bridges with the left, insisting we were "authoritarian" for opposing weapons to literal nazis in Ukraine and crying that we're antisemetic for opposing weapons to literal fascists in Isreal. You're choosing genocide over having any friends to rely on in the future. That's suicidal in practical as well as moral terms.

[-] Nakoichi@hexbear.net 34 points 6 months ago

We are witnessing in real time what it must have been like to be one of precious few anti-Nazis in 1930s germany.

[-] NewLeaf@hexbear.net 9 points 6 months ago

I'm with you on that. I owe nothing to someone who is actively working to make mine and everyone else's lives worse.

[-] mortemtyrannis@lemmy.ml 1 points 6 months ago

Your mutual aid group won’t help you in a fascist state.

You’ll be rounded up and killed like the rest of us.

[-] ShimmeringKoi@hexbear.net 6 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)

It already is a fascist state, and you're trying to convince me to throw another group of people into the genocide machine first because you think it will save us. Reread the Neimoller poem and stop being a cowardly Good German.

[-] DyingOfDeBordom@hexbear.net 27 points 6 months ago

Kinda unrelated but i really hope I live to see rthe day liberals get over whatever mind virus they have that prevents them from understanding that Hillary Clinton literally handpicked trump and then lost to him. It just breaks my brain that there's a fucking email where they talk about elevating him in the 2016 primary, which they clearly did! but nobody cares. If he's fucking Hitler, maybe we should direct some rage towards the person whose sociopathic gamble positioned him to win in the first place???

[-] NewLeaf@hexbear.net 8 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)

It's just that NPC meme where they make the mad face after hearing the truth, but in real life. They refuse to grapple with it. I've tried a bunch of times. I've posted articles, and they still twist themselves into knots about how if it happened, it was 4D chess, but it didn't happen and you're a tankie for saying so

[-] PKMKII@hexbear.net 27 points 6 months ago

Liberal politics has put the cart before the horse when it comes to the Democrat party. The voters/base exist to validate and serve the party rather than the way around. Voting is not a way for them to get material benefits or enact a platform, it’s a way to signify that they’re reasonable and embrace the meritocratic/technocratic system. Pushback on the party doesn’t compute for them because they see pushback as something the party does to the voters for being unreasonable.

[-] itappearsthat@hexbear.net 25 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)

Protest often requires sacrifice. Reject the charitable crumbs given by your oppressor as part of a boycott and they will laugh at you, saying you don't know your own interests and will hold it up as an example of how protest always backfires. See the Palestinians dumping out US food aid in the early part of the conflict. Liberals debase themselves endlessly for capital so do not understand the power of human dignity in this way. The boot tastes great to them, why aren't you drawing sustenance from it?

speaking of which the zionists have been leaving booby-trapped explosive cans of "food" behind in Gaza

What breaks my brain is regarding Democrat support of Israel:

Bibi openly prefers Trump. He wants trump to win. And democrats, who treat trump like some unspeakable evil, can't muster the courage to tell Netanyahu to fuck off? Really? Are you really the "adults in the room" and committed to winning if you support the guy who prefers that you lose? Play to win for fuck's sake. People see this squirming weakness and it turns them off. Quite naturally of course. Trump is a bumbling dumbfuck but he does understand that people generally prefer winners over losers.
