I know the inevitable chud will come out after this, but i really wanna wanna see who in japan is going to come out and demonstrate for the preservation of pantyshots of middle schoolers.

[-] Erika3sis@hexbear.net 24 points 6 months ago

Obviously the underwear company that was just about to strike a major brand deal for product placement of their new line of period panties in the unfortunately canceled Tsukinomonogatari (※no relation to Monogatari series). The company's logo was gonna be front and center with every single flash and everything, the contract stated no fewer than three flashes per episode. You know that Snickers bit in Nichijou? Yeah, it was gonna be just like that except for the whole anime, and instead of a chocolate bar it was gonna be characters talking about the MC's panties' top-of-the-line absorption due to its special synthetic fabric, or its patented anti-microbial technology, such that the viewers at home would know that they too can worry-not-Angkor-Wat whenever Aunt Flo arrives, because Being a Magical Girl Saving the World from the Forces of Evil is Hard Enough™

Yeah, of course the wokies had to ruin this marketing opportunity of a lifetime, smdh...

Tell me this is a bit please eviscerated

[-] Erika3sis@hexbear.net 6 points 6 months ago

I probably should've included a line about how it was gonna be animated by Musashino Animation just so that there would be no mistaking that it was a bit.

...What do you mean "most people haven't seen Shirobako"?

Anime bad? :)

Pretty sure this would never serve as a condemnation of my poor ability to glean information contextually cri

Dw sometimes I shake hands with scarecrows too

[-] Cromalin@hexbear.net 9 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)

ken akamatsu (better known for other work) won a seat in the diet on that exact platform

[-] Erika3sis@hexbear.net 7 points 6 months ago

The "other work" is Love Hina for anyone wondering, which is a name I've heard but didn't know anything about. Looks like it's some sort of ecchi harem thing.

Anyways, looking through this guy's Wikipedia page is like:

Akamatsu: "We should resist the expansion of copyright law!"

Me: "BASED!"

Akamatsu: "I have made out-of-print manga freely available online without DRM!"

Me: "POGGERS!"

Akamatsu: "We should strive to preserve old video games in a playable state!"

Me: "Sounds great!"

Akamatsu: "We need to protect freedom of expression from foreign pressures, too!"

Me: "Oh dear..."

Akamatsu: "I am referring specifically to..."

Me: "NO... I SEE WHERE YOU'RE GOING WITH THIS... BAD... NAUGHTY... DON'T DO THIS..."

Akamatsu: "That we should NOT revise the CSAM law to include sexualized drawings of children!"

Me: "God dammit, Akamatsu!"

Akamatsu: "Also I'm gonna put My Wife is an Elementary School Student on my out-of-print manga website"

[-] Cromalin@hexbear.net 5 points 6 months ago

yeah pretty much. thought i will say that love hina is THE ecchi harem thing. it permanently shifted the genre into being forever dogshit. previous ecchi harem things (like ranma or tenchi muyo) would focus on things like jokes or having characters that you might enjoy watching in screen. love hina was what flipped the switch into harems being the exact same dreck every time, in pretty close to the form it shows up in today whether in isekai slop or pure harem

though there have been some shifts, i feel like most harem stuff nowadays avoids even the pretense of any of the girls not being madly in love with the bland self insert protagonist

It's deeply funny that people here somehow think they're talking about they're talking about genericizing art styles, CalArtifying faces, or eliminating Japanese cultural references.

They're talking about censoring pedophilia, fan service creepshots, and other pervert shit in order to appeal to a broader global audience of non-creeps. That's why chuds are mad about it, because they think it's woke if they can't see a 14 year old's underwear.

[-] ashinadash@hexbear.net 19 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)

Do hexbears REALLY think this is about anything other than weird perverted and pedophilic shit? Seriously?

Anyway I think I support this move uncritically? The weird perv shit is easily what I hate most about manga, anime and all the games descended from said. It feels a bit weird that the international market has to drag manga & anime kicking and screaming to normalcy, but maybe this means a new Etrian Oddysey or Disgaea won't have so many suspiciously child-looking scantily clad characters? Or at least anime won't =)

[-] Thordros@hexbear.net 25 points 6 months ago

They better not start censoring Senshi's pantyshots, I swear to god.

[-] StalinIsMaiWaifu@lemmygrad.ml 10 points 6 months ago

Considering triggers origin as one of the most egregious fan servicers (see gainaxing, it's the same people), you're probably safe

[-] spacecadet@hexbear.net 24 points 6 months ago

Scanning through the article I sincerely do not know what they mean by "expressions".

My first assumption was maybe trying to use less Japanese culture specific human expressions of emotion, but I don't know, the article is super vague.

Are people here assuming this actually means less high school aged fan service bs?

[-] GarbageShoot@hexbear.net 13 points 6 months ago

Considering the word "acceptable", I don't think they're talking about, like, removing dogeza or whatever, I think they mean things people find disgusting.

[-] AernaLingus@hexbear.net 3 points 6 months ago

Looking at the original Japanese article, the word used is {表現|ひょうげん}, which is unambiguously the abstract meaning of "expression" rather than "(facial) expression" which is {表情|ひょうじょう}

[-] EndMilkInCrisps@hexbear.net 22 points 6 months ago

Nippon has fallen.

[-] ashinadash@hexbear.net 15 points 6 months ago

I have never seen "videogram" used like this, does the term mean "home video"?

actively attempting to change it’s core identity

Uh huh, Yawata puts a hell of a lot of corporate spin on "we need to put less underage panty shots in anime". Quirky...

[-] JoeByeThen@hexbear.net 14 points 6 months ago

Bland, generic malk for all.

[-] grandepequeno@hexbear.net 12 points 6 months ago

this article is probably going to get endlessly passed around whenever anime gamergate happens

[-] BynarsAreOk@hexbear.net 10 points 6 months ago

This article is corporate shit nonsense where he contradicts himself. He says the stuff made for Japan is now acceptable everywhere i.e Japan norms become mainstream and assures that things are not changing. But then he talks about "expressions" which is what exactly? Who knows, maybe this is a translation issue, but thinking a story about incest is about "expression" and not "storytelling" as he puts it then this is just nonsense, I mean literaly translation issue I guess. What is the interpretation supposed to be? Its fine to make a incest romcom just make sure to not include the steam covered baths, the beach episode and the pantyshot every episode? Yeah sure ok mr. Megacorpo shitter.

“Now, however, the same fun and excitement can be experienced at the same time in any region,” he added. “That is how common Japanese animation has become around the world. What we thought was for the Japanese market is now accepted in all regions. I believe that the market has matured to that extent.”

Their curiosity piqued by his mention of anime’s acceptance on the global stage, Mantanweb then asked Yawata,”Japanese animation has a history of unique evolution that is not found anywhere else. There is even a kind of radicalized expression. When it comes to distribution to the world, is it necessary to change the style?”

In turn, the Disney exec opined, “I don’t think there has been any major shift. The fundamental storytelling, the precision of the action, etc. have not changed, but there may be a shift toward adopting more acceptable expressions.”

In order to be seen by many people, expressions that do not hurt or mislead people should be taken for granted,” he continued. “That is not a negative thing, but perhaps an evolution. When videograms were the focus, there was a tendency for only those who wanted to buy them to do so, but our awareness is changing because we are now distributing to a larger market through a service that can be viewed at any time by adults and children alike.”

What people are probably going to be concerned about is a sudden shift towards western audience preferences which a lot of people here give way too much credit for, I mean in one side we constantly shit on gamers, Gamer culture, AAA culture, all the hollywood trash, but then also unironically when fucking the western monolithic entertainment corp guys says they want more of that then its obvious good because you should assume good faith that they just mean less pedoshit and not more gamer or generic Netflix show#5154363446 and that is definitely an improvement.

You can fight for better things without trying to pander to westerners questionable tastes either. Disney is not your damn friend. This clueless person is just trying to play both sides anyway. Disney wants shit to stream and their only values is whatever the marketing department says will pull numbers.

Aw, I love anime faces. Pokemon Sun and Moon is something that comes to mind for me. All the silly faces.
