Shutting the site down to stage a coup in Bolivia was not okay.

[-] SerLava@hexbear.net 31 points 5 months ago

This comment is why I kept refreshing the site

Guess we should actually do some work during the downtime.

Weird timing for Hexbear to go down soviet-hmm

[-] citrussy_capybara@hexbear.net 60 points 5 months ago

UlyssesT heads out just before Kissinger kicks the bucket, site goes down for maintenance just before a coup attempt is thwarted by proles, bears out there putting in work

[-] VILenin@hexbear.net 41 points 5 months ago

In a perverted twist, the more Hexbear is up the less the things we want to happen happen, and if we cease posting for all eternity, FALGSC is achieved tomorrow

[-] the_itsb@hexbear.net 17 points 5 months ago

hesitation-2

we have to kill Hexbear

[-] PM_ME_YOUR_FOUCAULTS@hexbear.net 39 points 5 months ago

Had to get in touch with my handlers to know what the official line is

They were not prepared for Luis Arce to be actively monitoring the situation since normally he is shitposting on Hexbear. The fools were hoping TheDunkTank false flag would still have the site, and thus President Arce, embroiled in a struggle-session. Better luck next time smuglord

Good to see the Bolivian Left has successfully iterated on the past failures of third world democratic socialism; keep your base mobilized and militant, the coup will come.

[-] Des@hexbear.net 54 points 5 months ago

the CIA seems pretty rizzless these days

[-] Cowbee@hexbear.net 21 points 5 months ago

Was there ever a time that the CIA had rizz?

[-] Des@hexbear.net 22 points 5 months ago

lol probably not they were always dorks

but they had lots of weirdos on the payroll in the 60s

[-] EmoThugInMyPhase@hexbear.net 23 points 5 months ago

Back then any random guy with khakis and a flight license could get hired by the CIA. Now it’s LinkedIn bros posting motivational stories while trafficking guns to Ukraine

[-] Caduceus@hexbear.net 9 points 5 months ago

I mean do they even need to traffic them at this point?

[-] EmoThugInMyPhase@hexbear.net 14 points 5 months ago

They hired CIA Jim to woo the girlies

[-] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 52 points 5 months ago

Saw this while I was over on lemmygrad, so the coup failed?

The coup forces have apparently withdrawn from La Paz as Luis Arce has swore in new military commanders. The space in La Paz around the government building has been taken by the people.

The coup-plotting former Army Commander Juan Jose Zuniga had just been dismissed yesterday for wanting to arrest former President Evo Morales (the target of the 2019 coup) and release the 2019 coup plotters from prison so that they could seize power again. President Luis Arce replaced Zuniga with Jose Wilson Sanchez, who ordered all troops to leave La Paz’s central Plaza Murillo square. Thankfully, Zuniga has been arrested and the coup attempt defeated.

Let's not forget that the US government's so-called "National Endowment for Democracy" had funneled tons of money into Bolivia to overthrow the government in the 2010s, in the lead up to the 2019 coup. The Bolivian people defeated that coup regime in 2020 and returned the Movement Toward Socialism party to power in the elections that year. Bolivia posses large quantities of lithium (which is an element critical for producing the batteries that power electric cars), making it a target for endless US imperialist meddling (just like Venezuela is a target, because of its oil wealth).

Subverting a coup via pure fucking will lmfao

I will never doubt the immortal warrior of the Andes ever again

[-] TankieTanuki@hexbear.net 35 points 5 months ago

Bolivia showed the world how to vote

[-] ksynwa@lemmygrad.ml 7 points 5 months ago

The president VOTED for a new army general and got instant results. Lazy American leftists should learn from him.

Wednesday’s rebellion followed months of tensions, with economic hardship and protests growing ever stronger as two political titans — Arce and his one-time ally, leftist former President Evo Morales — battled for control of the ruling party.

Still, the apparent attempt to depose the sitting president appeared to lack any meaningful support, and even Arce’s rivals closed ranks to defend democracy and repudiate the uprising.

What's up with this Evo-Arce rivalry? Is this made up or do they have real political differences?

[-] Redcuban1959@hexbear.net 47 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

iirc, Evo is more "radical" he is a self-proclaimed democratic socialist. Meanwhile, Luis Arce is more of a Social Democrat, more like Lula da Silva. Some people say this is about ego, that Evo just wants to be President again because he knows he can do better than people inside his own party. While Arce is more of to the right of the party.

I do believe Evo is much more popular than Luis Arce, but Arce also has his own supporters and seem to want to make a goverment with little influence from Evo, so it's not a repeat of the situation with Argentine president Alberto Fernandez and his VP, Cristina Kirchner. Who basically influenced the entire goverment.

The thing is, the right really, like really fucking hates Evo Morales. Why? He fixed the economy (Arce was his financy minister), gave many rights to the natives and changed the entire country constitution to grant rights to minorities. And he also added a new flag to be used with the Bolivian flag.

The Bolivian Elite hates Evo because now they can't sell the country's resources for the West while using the army to oppress the peasant class with help of the DEA. I do believe both Evo and Luis Arce are good presidents, but this split was really bad for the party. But who knows now. Evo supported Arce doring this coup, maybe they will make peace again with eachother.

[-] notthenameiwant@hexbear.net 19 points 5 months ago

It got so bad that Luis Arce was expelled from MAS last year.

[-] EmoThugInMyPhase@hexbear.net 11 points 5 months ago

Arce is a western trained economist. That in itself doesn’t mean his ultimate goal is to betray the nation considering he and Evo were allies, but his background surrounds him with like minded people whether he likes it or not.

[-] HelltakerHomosexual@hexbear.net 7 points 5 months ago

EL PUEBLE, UNIDO, JAMAS SERA VENCIDO!

[-] ZeroHora@lemmy.ml 4 points 5 months ago

This on was on America too or we finally had a coup/attempt in Latin America without any EUA involvement?

[-] ComradeOohAah@hexbear.net 7 points 5 months ago

Almost definitely US involvement. Even if it wasn't directly on our orders, we're paying and training the people instigating it.
