Would you be confused? Would you be mad? Would you even care?

LOL, I'd never do this, but it seems harmless silly enough...

Great prank, I'd definitely notice... after trying to open the wrong side twice.

Another one: Replace all the bath towels with similar, smaller towels.

[-] SkaveRat@discuss.tchncs.de 16 points 2 months ago

Replace all the bath towels with similar, smaller towels.

do this over a longer period of time. constantly making them a tiny bit smaller

[-] jordanlund@lemmy.world 28 points 2 months ago

We have a side by side fridge so... yeah, we'd know...

[-] over_clox@lemmy.world 7 points 2 months ago

Fine, we'll just flip the doors upside down on yours. /s

LOL, again I'd never actually do that in the first place, but it's still a funny thought.

[-] lvxferre@mander.xyz 18 points 2 months ago

I'd notice it because of muscle memory. Then get puzzled for five seconds, and then think "ah! So that's what's happening..."

As long as the person undoes the swap afterwards I'd just find it fun.

[-] GarrulousBrevity@lemmy.world 9 points 2 months ago

Yeah, this sounds like a good prank: it messes with their muscle memory, but it's otherwise harmless

[-] OpenStars@discuss.online 1 points 2 months ago

Assuming they did it properly and the seal is still good. It may also void a warranty.

[-] GarrulousBrevity@lemmy.world 9 points 2 months ago

A lot of fridges are made to go both ways. You have to attach the handle and the hinge when you get it. A lot of fridges will have two plugs on the other side to cover the unused bolt holes

[-] OpenStars@discuss.online 1 points 2 months ago

In that case, it sounds more tolerable. Also, username does check out? :-P

If a fridge is capable of changing what side it opens on, changing it won't void the warranty.

[-] HubertManne@moist.catsweat.com 8 points 2 months ago

given I have french doors it would be very noticable and I think impossible. swapping the doors might work but they are identical to befin with.

[-] Vanth@reddthat.com 7 points 2 months ago

Yes, I would notice, and yes, I would be really fucking annoyed. I swapped the fridge door to the way it is so that I can turn from my stovetop and open it with my dominant hand. Fittings were worn and I barely made it work without running something, so changing it for the prank and then again to correct it would probably damage it for good.

[-] MattTheProgrammer@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago

Get the fuck out of my house, Mike.

[-] Thorny_Insight@lemm.ee 6 points 2 months ago

I would notice but what I would be even more concerned about is how they got into my house

[-] FleetingTit@feddit.org 6 points 2 months ago

Yes I would notice, yes I would be confused, yes I would be mad. My fridge stands against a wall on one side and would become basically impossible to access.

[-] snooggums@midwest.social 6 points 2 months ago

Yes, because it would open up into the wall.

I would also notice it even if it didn't because I am a creature of habit and changes like that are obvious.

[-] Zonetrooper@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

Similar here. It wouldn't open right in the opposite direction.

[-] otherbarry@lemmy.zip 5 points 2 months ago

I'd definitely notice, mine is less than a year old so I still remember thinking about which side I wanted the refrigerator to open towards.

Plus right now it opens facing the rest of the kitchen area/counter and that works for me. If that suddenly got reversed it'd be a noticeable and annoying change.

[-] lady_maria@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago

I'd probably be concerned (and annoyed) that some unknown person violated my privacy to break into my home... just to fuck with my fridge???

That being said, if I knew who did it because of a long-standing tradition of mutual harmless pranks, or something, I'd probably be amused. But still a little bit annoyed.

[-] RebekahWSD@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago

I'd notice immediately since it would become annoying to use by a lot. I'm unsure if I'd known how to fix easily, or if it required a second able bodied person.

"Hello guy who mows the lawn for us, can you change how the fridge door opens? Someone broke in and changed it. Yes, I'm going to therapy, don't worry, if I'm crazy it'll be okay."

Hmmm he might not help with that message lmao

[-] Revan343@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 months ago

A second person would help a lot, but not be entirely necessary. They are designed to be swappable

[-] Eiri@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago

Oh yeah. My fridge is in the corner, and my kitchen isn't that large. Swapping the door would make it nearly impossible to use.

[-] OhmsLawn@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago

Mine are side-by-side, as another commenter mentioned, so yeah. That would be really weird.

I would notice if my washer and dryer got their doors reversed. I never considered it before (first time buying new appliances) but you choose the orientation based on where the walls are.

I imagine with a refrigerator, the same is true. Based on the kitchen layout, one orientation would be vastly more convenient than the other.

[-] dumbass@leminal.space 5 points 2 months ago

I forget which way my fridge is supposed to open at the best of times, so I probably wouldn't even notice.

[-] shinigamiookamiryuu@lemm.ee 4 points 2 months ago

As long as it's not broken, I wouldn't try to fix it.

[-] bizzle@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

Mines against the wall on one side, it would be really inconvenient. But I do always appreciate a good practical joke so I'd laugh.

[-] absGeekNZ@lemmy.nz 3 points 2 months ago

This but realistic.

Swap the order of the cutlery draw, put the spoons where the knives are supposed to be. Be the chaos in the world that you want to see.

[-] Gypsyhermit123@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 months ago

I’d notice the fridge at some point, there is a logic to doors in spaces. A flow to movement. but the cutlery would just mess with me. I’d be constantly doubting thing with Deja vu vibes.

[-] absGeekNZ@lemmy.nz 3 points 2 months ago
[-] Revan343@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 months ago

The fridge door one is perfectly realistic, those are designed to be swappable.

[-] HurlingDurling@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

Not french door models

[-] Blackout@fedia.io 3 points 2 months ago

I would notice, but only because

[-] cyberpunk007@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 months ago

I wouldn't notice because mine has 2 equal sized doors and handles.

[-] NeatNit@discuss.tchncs.de 5 points 2 months ago

You would notice because both would be hinged at the center now

[-] cyberpunk007@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 months ago

I don't read it that way. Some washing machines and refrigerators are designed to have the hinges swap sides so the door can swing the other way, not put the hinges where the handle is, and the handle where the hinges are...

[-] x4740N@lemm.ee 2 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

I'd be mad that someone did that to my fridge especially because they could fuck it up and cause damage

[-] linearchaos@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

Good pranks should not require significant work to undo.

It's funny, but a dick move.

[-] dan1101@lemm.ee 2 points 2 months ago

I have a fridge with the big single door and the drawer freezer at the bottom. I can't say for sure which side the handle is on from memory, so maybe that prank would work.

[-] Ziglin@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

The fridge door would be in the middle of the kitchen so yes.

[-] intensely_human@lemm.ee -4 points 2 months ago

It’s harmless if you tell them.

If you don’t tell them, it’s called gaslighting and it’s very harmful.

[-] Chozo@fedia.io 2 points 2 months ago

That's not what gaslighting is.

[-] intensely_human@lemm.ee 0 points 2 months ago

Yes it is. You change something about a person's environment, and when they ask "did you change that thing?" you deny it. If you never reveal that you actually changed the thing, it's called gaslighting.

It's named after a movie in which one character did this to another character with the intensity of gas lamps on the wall, with the intention of making her doubt her own perceptions.

[-] Chozo@fedia.io 0 points 2 months ago

If you don’t tell them

is different from

when they ask "did you change that thing?" you deny it

I'm just being a stickler for the active vs passive method of letting the victim question their sanity.

[-] intensely_human@lemm.ee 0 points 2 months ago

So you do know that it’s gaslighting

[-] over_clox@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

I'd tell them.. eventually. And I'd fully reverse the changes. But I'm not gonna do any of that.

Until I have to defrost the freezer... 🤔

Nah, I'm too lazy for all that.

[-] intensely_human@lemm.ee 2 points 2 months ago

As long as you admit you changed it, then it's just a prank. If you never admit it, then it's gaslighting.
