the demon inhabiting mitch mcconnell would move heaven and earth to stop that judicial nomination from being approved

But only after making signals that he would be accepting of it so they create the opening and then say "we have a mandate from the population, we will appoint the replacement! We'd like to welcome in advance Aileen Cannon to the SCOTUS for her service in defending Donald Trump despite the actual law."

Giving your turn at the lathe a whirl?

Would he though? If the new justice isn’t as liberal-leaning, even if they are bit younger I imagine he would take that deal. I mean, put yourself in the shoes of a liberal. If you could replace Clarence Thomas with a slightly more moderate republican, you would probably do that.

Bluesky joke

“Comply in advance” might as well be the party platform...

[-] Feinsteins_Ghost@hexbear.net 29 points 2 weeks ago

This is how you stack the Supreme Court with republicans

[-] pudcollar@hexbear.net 24 points 2 weeks ago

Are they afraid of having any remaining liberal-leaning justices?

[-] InevitableSwing@hexbear.net 20 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Trump is already likely to get two more justices. Thomas and Alito could (will?) retire. And if that happens - Trump could appoint people in their 30s. Why wouldn't he do that? I guess the dems want to work as hard as they can so the court is in firm GOP control for decades.

instead of 6-3 you can get 7-2

[-] FunkyStuff@hexbear.net 18 points 2 weeks ago

Baby, we're looking at 9-0 by 2028 at the rate we're going.

[-] TheModerateTankie@hexbear.net 20 points 2 weeks ago

Watch Trump just expand the court.

Or contract it 🪓 it's legal after all!

Ok so is there really anything wrong with Sonia Sotomayor's physical or mental health?

Or is it just racism and misogyny that their party veteran insider white man gets a pass for 5 years of red flags but a Latina is told she needs to retire at age 70 after only 15 years on the Court?

[-] LanyrdSkynrd@hexbear.net 18 points 2 weeks ago

She has diabetes, but that's not a death sentence, especially when you're wealthy.

[-] AnarchoAnarchist@hexbear.net 1 points 2 weeks ago

I've been saying for about 4 years that she needs to retire so that we can replace her while Biden is still in office. Maybe she'll live to 150, but her health isn't great and the supreme Court is already really stacked.

But like everything else in the Biden admin, he dithered and waited and now it's too late
