You're the dummy here my friend, in reality they used an ICBM, which stands for Intra Continental Ballistic Missile, as opposed to a regular ICBM

[-] CommCat@hexbear.net 70 points 1 week ago

they weren't ICBMS, they were their new medium ranged hyper sonic nuclear capable (obviously they weren't armed) missiles. It was obviously a warning to the West, because they travel so fast with multiple war heads that they are impossible to intercept.

[-] BashfulBob@hexbear.net 53 points 1 week ago

I heard they were actually nuclear armed but then Ukraine raised its force field just in time and everyone was fine.

[-] stink@lemmygrad.ml 37 points 1 week ago

It was like in the avengers when the wakandites put up their magic shield against thanos.

Obviously ukraine is good and russia is thanos, so it makes sense that would happen!

[-] ComradeMonotreme@hexbear.net 14 points 1 week ago

This reminds me of a reddit thread I saw where some guy thought the US military would have done a better job than Wakanda against Thanos in infinity war, because the Wakandans resorted to (high tech) melee. Disregarding the fact the Wakandans only survived to get to melee range because their shield protected from orbital bombardment.

[-] DefinitelyNotAPhone@hexbear.net 25 points 1 week ago

He's not entirely wrong, but only because Wakanda is hamstrung by being written by Hollywood writers who react to basic military tactic knowledge the same way a Puritan from 1600 would react to women not buried under 37 full-body layers of clothing at all times.

I don't know if any earth military could deal with the high orbital bombardment Thanos deployed in End Game.

And presumably his ship has shield against missiles.

[-] DefinitelyNotAPhone@hexbear.net 11 points 1 week ago

I was more referring to the "endless horde of mindless attack dogs vs high-tech phalanx wall" bit being heavily in a traditional military's favor on account of having 'ranged weaponry' and other such forms of cheating per the rules of glorious melee combat.

The ship is going to curbstomp quite a lot, though I imagine if you start indiscriminately tossing nukes at it you'd get through eventually.

[-] dumpster_dove@hexbear.net 49 points 1 week ago

I read in the news long ago that they were running out of missiles. I guess they're working with what they have left.

[-] TomBombadil@hexbear.net 44 points 1 week ago

Have seen this exact take unironiclly from a lib

[-] Thorngraff_Ironbeard@hexbear.net 36 points 1 week ago

They knew this beforehand, they had to angle it really high to hit Ukraine.

[-] aaro@hexbear.net 30 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

like the dodgeball move where you throw one up really high for them to catch and then when they look up to catch it you fucking' nail 'em

[-] troybot@midwest.social 12 points 1 week ago

The old rope-a-dope

[-] plinky@hexbear.net 34 points 1 week ago

They are asiatic country blob-no-thoughts

[-] newmou@hexbear.net 31 points 1 week ago

Because Ukraine projects a sort of dimensional mesh of propaganda from it at all times, as does the US, and it simply takes a missile of that caliber to penetrate through that ambient airspace membrane. Also why the war has been bogged down so hard — you try walking through something like that. It’s like invisible, mucky quicksand

[-] barrbaric@hexbear.net 14 points 1 week ago

So that's why they call wars a "quagmire".

[-] newmou@hexbear.net 7 points 1 week ago
[-] morte@hexbear.net 25 points 1 week ago

Did they actually fire one???????

[-] ThomasMuentzner@hexbear.net 31 points 1 week ago
[-] joaomarrom@hexbear.net 27 points 1 week ago

Goddamn dude this looks like some scifi shit, that synchronized, evenly-timed burst of projectiles coming from the sky is chilling... that's the kind of shit you see in military scifi or something

[-] ThomasMuentzner@hexbear.net 30 points 1 week ago

it is sci fi shit ..

it leaves the atmosphere then diassambles into 6 Parts there , that then also seperate into 6 differnet parts that then strike the earth with some mach 14 or something ..and thats the non nuke version..

[-] joaomarrom@hexbear.net 33 points 1 week ago

jesus christ this legitimately looks like something straight out of Warhammer 40K, some kind of orbital bombardment

to me this is the old definition of awesome, causing awe... can you imagine being there and seeing something like this? that's the definition of shock and awe, I can't even imagine how demoralizing it must be to see your enemy using this kind of munition

[-] morte@hexbear.net 24 points 1 week ago

Thats absolutely insane scared

[-] Hestia@hexbear.net 6 points 1 week ago

I don't think I've ever seen missles displace the fucking sky to this extent. The kinetic force alone would be ridiculous.

[-] morte@hexbear.net 22 points 1 week ago

Ahhhh so they were conventional weapons

Haha i was scared for a second? catgirl-huh

[-] ThomasMuentzner@hexbear.net 31 points 1 week ago

if you call a strategic Meteorshower "conventional" .. the ICBM didn not have nukes in it , but it kinda was a nuke anyway .. because at the moment of launch and flight ,all early warning systems musst have detected a ICBM strike , and Sirens must have blarred in various dark Nato caves .. Putin has state in a Puplic adress that he will nowDIRECTLY strike the Countries programming the weapons (US /UK /France) as he considers this an act of war .

You should 100% be scared ...

[-] Weedian@hexbear.net 18 points 1 week ago

Wait was this a MIRV? all these warheads from one launched missile?

[-] ThomasMuentzner@hexbear.net 27 points 1 week ago

we gonna see all the cool shit on our way up the escalation latter ..

brandon

[-] GnastyGnuts@hexbear.net 25 points 1 week ago

ICBM? Sounds like you've fallen for Russian shovel-based trick-nology.

[-] FlakesBongler@hexbear.net 24 points 1 week ago

If true, show of power

They have ICBMs and Ukraine still only has those long range cruise missiles

[-] CrawlMarks@hexbear.net 23 points 1 week ago

Putin threw it too hard. All the necromancy he is wearing from the DPRK is paying off

[-] oscardejarjayes@hexbear.net 21 points 1 week ago

They used an MRBM, because Ukraine is in the same medium

[-] Hello_Kitty_enjoyer@hexbear.net 19 points 1 week ago

bc Asia's the biggest continent

[-] AntiOutsideAktion@hexbear.net 18 points 1 week ago

The video is as ominous as the ballistic missiles we saw come down on Israel. I hope everybody gets it out of their system soon.
