Is this a thread for recommending communities that aren't politics, news, memes, or tech? If so, here's some comic-related communities:

And a few other miscellaneous communities:

[-] Blaze@feddit.org 14 points 2 months ago

Indeed, that's the spirit, thanks for the links!

[-] SiegeRhino@lemmy.world 7 points 2 months ago

dropping an Oglaf link without a warning is gonna make for a fun time on public transit

[-] m_f@midwest.social 3 points 2 months ago

Good call, edited to add a warning

[-] vext01@lemmy.sdf.org 18 points 2 months ago

Thanks. I appreciate this kind of post.

All to easy to have a feed full of doom.

I'd like to see more niche communities take off. I want to talk home recording studio, but even if I start it, no one joins.

Subbed. I just bought a m audio m- track solo. I'm currently debating using waveform, Cakewalk, or reaper. Maybe I'll make a post

[-] curbstickle@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 2 months ago

Go for it!

Also.... Reaper.

There is !musicproduction@sh.itjust.works, maybe you can try to post there to see if people are still interesting? Something as small as "how is everyone doing lately with their home studios" could start a discussion

[-] can@sh.itjust.works 9 points 2 months ago
[-] Blaze@feddit.org 3 points 2 months ago

Ah, that's promising!

[-] cm0002@lemmy.world 7 points 2 months ago

Ew, a .ml comm

@can@sh.itjust.works s recommendation for !musicproduction@sh.itjust.works is much better

Let's not grow anymore .ml communities

[-] Blaze@feddit.org 4 points 2 months ago

Yes, I share the feeling. For some reason the SJW community was not showing up in lemmyverse.net

[-] pseudo@jlai.lu 12 points 2 months ago

I made some interesting discovery but (and it is a big but), BUT where are the animals! Lemmy has so many of them:

!superbowl@lemmy.world is actually better than its Reddit counter part

We have !bats@lemmy.world, !opossums@lemmy.world and !pets@lemmy.sdf.org and !cats@addAnyInstance and cute animals at !aww@lemmy.world and !aww@lemmy.ml and insects at !awwnverts@lemmy.world. We have a !bun_alert_system@lemmy.sdf.org and a collection of !taneggs@lemmy.ca and so much more...

[-] jaybone@lemmy.world 9 points 2 months ago

Superbowl has some excellent posts, and I’m like not even an owl guy (whatever that means.)

[-] Coelacanth@feddit.nu 7 points 2 months ago

!crows@lemmy.ml is also fairly active.

[-] pseudo@jlai.lu 2 points 2 months ago

Yes... I also love the comics there.

[-] Elevator7009sAlt@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago

Self-plug: !bunnies@lemmy.world, also active, posts don't overlap with !bun_alert_system@lemmy.sdf.org

Also !snakes@lemmy.world, though I don't run that one.

[-] pseudo@jlai.lu 3 points 2 months ago

We never got enough bunnies and snakes usually make beautiful pictures!

[-] Chromebby@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

Thanks for tan eggs! I never knew I needed this! xD

Saving, to continue returning.

[-] Alice@hilariouschaos.com 1 points 2 months ago

U can't see me

[-] palitu@aussie.zone 6 points 2 months ago

Thanks, a couple of new subs, and since laughs from Dad jokes, as well as groans from my wife...

[-] pixelmeow@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago

May I plug my community? !The_Heinlein_Society@lemmy.world would love more conversation. No current politics allowed :)

[-] Blaze@feddit.org 2 points 2 months ago

Feel free! Didn't know about Heinlein, looks like an interesting author!

[-] LambdaRX@sh.itjust.works 5 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)
[-] tja@sh.itjust.works 10 points 2 months ago

When you write them with an @ in front, you are referencing a user. A community is a Lemmy concept and you have to prepend them with a !.

Wasn't the last post 4 months ago?

[-] AA5B@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago
[-] Blaze@feddit.org 5 points 2 months ago

No worries, hopefully BBQ enthusiasts will see this post.

If there aren't enough, you can always cross-post your next post to !cooking@lemmy.world

[-] the_crotch@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 months ago

Well BBQing is traditionally an American thing and it's winter in the northern hemisphere

[-] Blaze@feddit.org 3 points 2 months ago

Time to find some Australian BBQers!

[-] rimu@piefed.social 5 points 2 months ago
[-] FartsWithAnAccent@fedia.io 4 points 2 months ago

Not new but there's !micromobility@lemmy.world if you like bikes, ebikes, boards, motorcycles, etc.

[-] Allero@lemmy.today 4 points 2 months ago

Since others shared their own communities, here's my simple one, looking for your stories:

!positivity@lemmy.today

Come by to share what made you happy!

[-] Blaze@feddit.org 2 points 2 months ago

Thanks for sharing! You might consider !casualconversation@lemm.ee, it's also positive / chill content is is quite active

[-] Allero@lemmy.today 3 points 2 months ago

Already part of it!

[-] MBM@lemmings.world 3 points 2 months ago

!truecomics@midwest.social is cool and unique. Not as active lately though.

[-] Blaze@feddit.org 2 points 2 months ago

Did something happen to the main poster?

[-] MBM@lemmings.world 1 points 2 months ago

Yeah they had to focus on their studies

[-] OpenStars@discuss.online 3 points 2 months ago

New Communities

A place to post new communities all over Lemmy for discovery and promotion.

Rules

The rules for behavior are a straight carry over of Mastodon.World's rules. You can click the link but we've reposted them here in brief, as a guideline. We will continue to use the Mastodon.World rules as the master list. Over all, be nice to each other and remember this isn't a community built around debate. For the rules about formatting your posts, scroll down to number 2.

1. Follow the rules of Mastodon.world, which can be found here.

A. Provide an inclusive and supportive environment. This means if it isn't rulebreaking and we can't be supportive to them then we probably shouldn't engage.

B. No illegal content.

C. Use content warnings where appropriate. This means mark your submissions NSFW if need be.

D. No uncivil behavior. This includes, but is not limited to: Name Calling; Bullying; Trolling; Disruptive Commenting; or Personal Criticisms.

E. No Harrassment. As an example in relation to Transgender people this includes, deadnaming, misgendering, and promotion of conversion therapy. Similarly Misogyny, Misandry, and Racism are also banned here.

2. Include a community or instance title and description in your post title. - A following example of this would be New Communities - A place to post new communities or instances all over Lemmy for discovery and promotion.

3. Follow the formatting. - The formatting as included below is important for people getting universal links across Lemmy as easily as possible.

Formatting

Please include this following format in your post:

[link text](/c/community@instance.com)

This provides a link that should work across instances, but in some cases it won't

You should also include either:

!community@instance.com

or instance.com/c/community

FAQ:

Q: Why do I get a 404?

A: At least one user in an instance needs to search for a community before it gets fetched. Searching for the community will bring it into the instance and it will fetch a few of the most recent posts without comments. If a user is subscribed to a community, then all of the future posts and interactions are now in-sync.

Q: When I try to create a post, the circle just spins forever. Why is that?

A: This is a current known issue with large communities. Sometimes it does get posted, but just continues spinning, but sometimes it doesn't get posted and continues spinning. If it doesn't actually get posted, the best thing to do is try later. However, only some people seem to be having this problem at the moment.
