Blue MAGA thinks NATO is coming to save them, lol. I am forever amazed at the lost irony on libs, pissing themselves over Trump tariffs and Greenland annexation in the context of Obama and Biden surgically severing EU-Russia relations, orchestrating a coup in Ukraine, and Biden coming back to finish the job by entrenching Europe in war and blowing up their brand new gas pipeline. The US is NATO, motherfuckers. The second a European head of state even thinks about dedollarizing, a Democrat appears behind them to drive a stake up their asshole. And yet libs are CONVINCED that Canada will invoke Article 4 on their behalf later this week. Imagine overdosing on copium as your supposed saviors are laughing their asses off at your party imploding. Unbelievable.

25% tariff on cocaine clark-kent-stare

[-] stink@lemmygrad.ml 51 points 11 months ago

Colombia is going through a very hard time right now, I hope all is well for them.

[-] Antiwork@hexbear.net 49 points 11 months ago

citations-needed made me realize I wish headlines did not just say 25% tarrifs because to the average reader that sounds innocuous and even to someone who follows this stuff I don’t know how that could affect people in Colombia, except badly. This should be broken down in tangible negative impacts this will have and this goes for all tarrif related news. Come to think of it, the news seems to have no trouble doing this when the tariffs will negatively impact the global north.

Earlier in the day, Colombian President Gustavo Petro announced he had blocked two US military flights carrying migrants heading toward the country and called on the United States to establish better protocols in its treatment of migrants. Petro also left the door open to receiving repatriated migrants traveling on civilian planes.

God I hate the US so much

He's still open to taking whoever the US deports provided they're on civilian aircraft, but that apparently isn't inhumane enough so they get tariffs

Mexico’s position as well. Just not fascist enough

Somebody should try explaining to Trump that you can't be the world empire and be isolationist at the same time.

Or don't, and let him speed run the collapse of hegemony.

[-] sexywheat@hexbear.net 42 points 11 months ago

I read that Colombia slapped some retaliatory tariffs on USA in response lol

Colombia is the #1 exporter of coffee beans to the US.

[-] NephewAlphaBravo@hexbear.net 25 points 11 months ago

do we still get most caffeine from decaffeinating coffee beans? that could fuck up a lot of treats

[-] buckykat@hexbear.net 7 points 11 months ago

Yeah it's a basically free byproduct of making decaf

[-] halfpipe@hexbear.net 26 points 11 months ago

That means an immediate price increases on oil, coffee and fruit, and anything made with oil, coffee or fruit.

This is amazing. I thought US hegemony was going to drag on for another twenty years, but we're really fucking blowing it all up.

Yeah - but Trump is gonna invade Greenland and stick the flag on it.

Newcomm and Newsmega Rules:

The Hexbear Code of Conduct and Terms of Service apply here.

  1. Link titles: Please use informative link titles. Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed.

  2. Content warnings: Posts on the newscomm and top-level replies on the newsmega should use content warnings appropriately. Please be thoughtful about wording and triggers when describing awful things in post titles.

  3. Fake news: No fake news posts ever, including April 1st. Deliberate fake news posting is a bannable offense. If you mistakenly post fake news the mod team may ask you to delete/modify the post or we may delete it ourselves.

  4. Link sources: All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. If you are citing a Twitter post as news, please include the Xcancel.com (or another Nitter instance) or at least strip out identifier information from the twitter link. There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance, such as Libredirect or archive them as you would any other reactionary source.

  5. Archive sites: We highly encourage use of non-paywalled archive sites (i.e. archive.is, web.archive.org, ghostarchive.org) so that links are widely accessible to the community and so that reactionary sources don’t derive data/ad revenue from Hexbear users. If you see a link without an archive link, please archive it yourself and add it to the thread, ask the OP to fix it, or report to mods. Including text of articles in threads is welcome.

  6. Low effort material: Avoid memes/jokes/shitposts in newscomm posts and top-level replies to the newsmega. This kind of content is OK in post replies and in newsmega sub-threads. We encourage the community to balance their contribution of low effort material with effort posts, links to real news/analysis, and meaningful engagement with material posted in the community.

  7. American politics: Discussion and effort posts on the (potential) material impacts of American electoral politics is welcome, but the never-ending circus of American Politics© Brought to You by Mountain Dew™ is not welcome. This refers to polling, pundit reactions, electoral horse races, rumors of who might run, etc.

  8. Electoralism: Please try to avoid struggle sessions about the value of voting/taking part in the electoral system in the West. c/electoralism is right over there.

  9. AI Slop: Don't post AI generated content. Posts about AI race/chip wars/data centers are fine.
