They're banning the word gender?! That's an absolute fuckton of articles, most of which have nothing to do with trans people

To be fair the US has always been Lysenkoism 0.0, doing evolution denial before it was cool

[-] Llituro@hexbear.net 128 points 1 month ago

this is probably as close to we're going to get to a literal recreation of the burning of the berlin clinic hirschfeld since it's 2025 and not 1925.

I hope you're right, but I fear you aren't. I think this will get worse.

[-] Llituro@hexbear.net 70 points 1 month ago

oh yeah for sure, all i'm saying is that it's probably going to involve digitally accessible information and not attacks on centralized institutional keepers of this knowledge. mostly because that's just not how that's materially realized anymore. so if anyone is thinking to themselves "well i'm going to have to take this action when they burn the gender clinic," it's probably time to feel that kind of way.

Every bureaucrat responsible should be included in a Nuremberg Trial.

While it feels like the last few years have been a car careening towards a cliff, it's beginning to seem like we are now mid-air

[-] Comrade_Mushroom@hexbear.net 75 points 1 month ago

Banning words in scientific research? I mean this is getting beyond even the stuff they pretend China is doing.

[-] JohnBrownsBussy2@hexbear.net 70 points 1 month ago

Just to clarify, this is for pending CDC authored papers, not published papers or papers by non-CDC authors.

Although I am very worried that something similar could happen to PubMed/the National Library of Medicine.

This is incredibly stupid, thankfully we have the arxive

Now approved by the Supreme Court!

[-] Biggay@hexbear.net 3 points 1 month ago

And it never had to be, who would've stopped him?

Yes, the Supreme Court said the president can do whatever he wants. Which we all have to obey, because the Supreme Court gave the Supreme Court the power to decide on what the law is in "Marbury vs. Madison." The USA government is just one big ouroboros of liberal-bourgeois self-appointed authority.

[-] Dirt_Owl@hexbear.net 23 points 1 month ago

And let me guess, the Dems are doing nothing about it.

[-] prole@hexbear.net 24 points 1 month ago

At this point it's too late for them to do anything short of something really awesome. I would vote Dem the rest of my life if just one of them would do it..

[-] Dirt_Owl@hexbear.net 38 points 1 month ago

Yeah I think it's important for everyone to remember how easy it would have been for the Dems to win if they actually did anything to combat fascism while they were in power. But they were too busy pretending the pandemic was over and giving money to bomb brown people to care.

[-] DinosaurThussy@hexbear.net 17 points 1 month ago

My partner has been asking me this multiple times per day for weeks and my answer is always, “who’s going to stop him?”

Good thing this country is dying. Death to America

[-] REgon@hexbear.net 56 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Oh neat we're at the "destroying transgender research, setting back the world at least a century" stage agony-deep That's not goodagony-4horsemen

[-] Big_Bob@hexbear.net 28 points 1 month ago

I don't think knowledge can be destroyed in this day and age.

Research institutions are more international and globalised than they were in the 20th century.

Even if american fascists started burning Research documents and books, the knowledge would most likely not be lost if it's already shared on an international level.

As usual, american politics is completely detached from material reality and can only deal in aesthetics and theater.

Sure, it would in the US when the yanks completely remove themselves from scientific studies.

But the current research and discoveries will continue their development in other places like Germany, France, China, or other nations who research the same things.

If the US banned mathematics for using Arabic numerals, mathematic discoveries would still continue elsewhere.

The US seems to cannibalise itself and speed running its own collapse. It should be celebrated. A destroyed or diminished US is an absolute blessing for the rest of the world.

[-] barrbaric@hexbear.net 50 points 1 month ago

They fucking banned the word gender?!

[-] pinguinu@lemmygrad.ml 22 points 1 month ago

I’ve heard apolitical people irl discussing politics

Extremely sus to say the least. I might even say we are cooked and whatever plan you have to leave this country will only delay the inevitable

[-] Mardoniush@hexbear.net 39 points 1 month ago

I for one support the CDC in their attack on US scientific capabilities.

[-] Dirt_Owl@hexbear.net 37 points 1 month ago

Watch China become the scientific hub of the world and America succumb to an even worse brain drain.

How long until the US knee caps science to the point that their engineers can't even keep up with the weapons race? America is a joke and will start failing at even being a international strongman bully at some point lol. It's already being treated like a paper tiger by China.

[-] Mardoniush@hexbear.net 17 points 1 month ago

Hard to say, but "in the next 6 weeks" is not out of the question, and "in the next 18 months" a distinct possibility even if AI crashes and burns. There's wonderful rumors coming out of China's electron beam lithography teams on multiple fronts, most notably that one of the labs may have a practical achromatic lens.

This is just slop for the hogs. The economy is about to get tanked and this is an attempt to keep the chuds somewhat appeased.

[-] AntifaSuperWombat@hexbear.net 28 points 1 month ago

I can absolutely get behind banning "biologically male/female" but damn is this just dystopian as fuck.

If we're getting USSR style academic censorship we should at least get a USSR social economy
