If Castro stealing your family's gold bars is supposed to make me hate Castro, I've got bad news for you.

the suits have more faith in a coming revolution in the US than most commies

Evergreen sentiment - I wish we lived in the world they think we do

it doesn't help that they got trigger happy about anyone they even remotely imagined could build revolutionary fervor.

Don’t you love it when you put on a coat at the start of winter and find $100K you left in the pocket from last winter

[-] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 13 points 1 year ago

Gold bars spilling out my old winter jacket, oops!

i keep a pile of paper currency in my house because if there's a revolution overthrowing the current regime i will obviously be able to use the paper currency from a defunct state to move internationally.

like wtf. no chance. if you're a rich asshole in a corrupt country and you're worried about the people rising up to take your shit, you have an overseas account in some other consistently traded/stable currency. and you keep a bunch of jewelry to bribe your way out. because all of that can be explained away as a travel account and like family heirlooms or some shit.

nobody with a shitload of cash in their house is doing anything but hiding it and using it for illegal shit, which they are also hiding.

no actually he's a million years old and remembers the bank runs of 1929

[-] Gay_Tomato@hexbear.net 2 points 1 year ago

I wonder if he'll argue he was setup by Cuban agents. Havana syndrome made him accept the gifts or something.

Wait, wait...

This guy, who is a prominent US senator, thinks that hoarding cash and gold in his house would insulate him from the risk of it being seized when he could easily just open up a Swiss bank account to ensure that his wealth exists beyond the reach of a potential revolution.

If there was a revolution tomorrow you'd expect that all the mansions belonging to filthy rich high-level politicians would be seized along with all the wealth inside of them.

This story absolutely doesn't make sense outside of some PR-brained "play the victim of communism card and lean in hard to the new red scare era narratives" nonsense.

That's exactly what it is

If this fuck gets away with corruption and money laundering charges by playing the red scare card and being a gusano I will literally become the joker.

[-] emizeko@hexbear.net 9 points 1 year ago

"you wanna know how I got these bars?"

[-] DamarcusArt@lemmygrad.ml 4 points 1 year ago

My lazy photoshop depiction of the storming of the mansions:

[-] PKMKII@hexbear.net 20 points 1 year ago

Only a matter of time before this produces a “having a problem with money laundering makes you a tankie” hot take

[-] Awoo@hexbear.net 13 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

God what a shit way to hide your loot. At least hide it in between the insulation inside the walls or something so nothing short of literally demolishing every wall in the building will find it.

No fucking imagination.

[-] FALGSConaut@hexbear.net 10 points 1 year ago

Bribery is actually cool, so long as you do it in the most ridiculous way imaginable. Like that Chinese businessguy giving Hunter a giant gem, or this fucker and his gold bars. I wanna see dudes driving away in a tanker truck of oil after voting to start harvesting whale oil, I want to see a senator taking a Faberge egg in exchange for supporting Guantanamo 2: The ReGuantanamo-ing, shit like that
