Trey Parkers mother was thrown into a volcano and he has been salty about it ever since.

Chances are they pick something at random and turn it into a running joke.

I still think naming the one black kid in town "Token" is the best joke in the whole show. I always like jokes where you're not sure if you're supposed to be laughing or not.

They 'changed' his name in a recent episode, haha, it was glorious

And that was a commentary on how every media company is changing shit to appease the new "modern audience," and gaslighting people about it.

It's clearly Tolkien, you racist.

That’s not really random, Canada is kind of a joke

Now now, the Canadian govt has apologized for Brian Adams on several occasions. Also, fuck you, budday.

I immediately think of the episode where Butters returns home to fix his anger issues, only for him to be angry about Ben Affleck the whole time. Can't recall any other Hawaii-centric episodes. I love South Park.

There's a lot of Tiny Tim references, which have that hawaiian island music vibe.

Satan is seen doing a Luau and singing are we going to the Hukilau

So I think it's mostly South Park creators being obsessed with Tiny Tim, and well, who could blame them? Everyone loves a Ukelele. Spongebob clearly takes their musical influences from him.

I think my favourite being the Happy Souls background track for the Dark Souls parody of Living in the Sunlight by Tiny Tim.

Also the cops were having a luau instead of working when they were pissed off at the town—Chief Harrison may even have kissed a dude!

I think you got the answer. Tiny Tim

Maybe something to do with Scientology? There's that whole thing about Lord... whatever... (Veenu?) dropping souls into Hawaiian volcanoes.

Not just South Park, in BASEketball there's a Hawaiian luau scene where one of the characters gives a big speech that ends the animosity between the two main characters.
