Remember when we told everyone what he was going to do and millions of voters told us we were fearmongering, lying, exaggerating, or that he "didn't mean it"?
I used to love being right. Now I fucking hate it.

You can do both. I regularly slap down mofos who say "I didn't vote to lose (government subsidies they need to survive)"
Oh yes you did! brings up the section of project 2025 that brutally guts said subsidies
Genuine and serious question: Where does that get you?
As good as it may feel to call these people out for their ignorance and stupidity (and yes, they were very ignorant and very stupid), what is it actually doing to help stop Trump's agenda right now?
Telling them off might feel good, and right, and incredibly justified, but it's not going to win people over.
What America needs right now is a mass movement against Trump's agenda, and a big part of building that movement is going to have to be reaching out to those people who are disgusted with the reality of Trump's agenda and bringing them into the fold, even if they helped put it in motion in the first place.
So what's your communication approach, then? Remaining ignorant piles of shit won't exactly make them change their minds, either.
Help them out of their ignorance. Start by agreeing with their frustrations and then continue to explore common ground from there.
And when I say "agree with their frustrations" I mean the stuff that you can legitimately agree on. Start with this tax plan, which fucks over anyone making less than about $300,000 a year. Maybe let them know that Trump instituted similar tax cuts last time around; that this isn't a one time mistake. Maybe help them to understand that a lot of the moves Trump and his team are making right now are straight out the Project 2025 playbook; studies showed that the more people learned about Project 2025 the more they hated it. Trump had to pretend he knew nothing about it, so showing them that he's now following it to the letter might get you somewhere.
Find the places where you can agree, and work from there.
And it’s been like that since 2016. These people never learn.
Since 1968
People were mad at the status quo. When times are shit, change can seem attractive.
Even if in reality the change presented by Trump only makes shit worse.
So happy they’re getting what they voted for!
Don't worry, I've been assured that nothing has changed, this is all business as usual, and I'm a filthy liberal for saying that the past month alone has been utterly fucked to a disproportionate degree.
And also furious that we're getting what they voted for!
I've been fucking Jeff Goldblum in Jurassic Park for the better part of a decade by this point and damn do I hate being right all the time

He must be exhausted. Give the poor man a break.
Does he know about this? Is he in the room with you right now?
It's obviously pretty stupid, but we shouldn't act like the Americans are especially dumb, this is happening all over the globe.
People see: "economy is bad" so people vote out whoever is in power and vote in whoever screams the loudest that they have a magical fix. I would be shocked if the average trump, AFD etc. voter spends more then 15 minutes researching their vote (outside the endless stream of political content on yt and tiktok).
True, only with Trump we already had a round of him trying to run us into the ground while trying to sell off everything not bolted down, while also golfing like he was on the PGA tour (quantity NOT quality), and up-charging his secret service detail and foreign "reps" that stayed at all his properties and funneling all that illegal money back into his coffers while funding everything he did on tax payer dollars.
But yeah, he was clearly the choice to "stick it to the man".
Oh please, for instance AfD got 20% of the vote, and have no real power, because Germany has an actually functioning democracy.
But yes we hear a lot of warnings against AfD, because they are like MAGA, difference is they can't disrupt everything with lies like in USA. Because in EU you have responsibility when using your freedom of speech. You can't parrot some idiot making history falsification, ands claim you are just "reporting" it. Unfortunately the old East Germany is unhappy with the state of things, and want to go back to before the country was split. Which means they want Nazi Germany back.
this is happening all over the globe.
This is textbook false equivalence.
Exactly. Americans are very quick to deflect and turn to whataboutism when held responsible for their actions.
It’s obviously pretty stupid, but we shouldn’t act like the Americans are especially dumb, this is happening all over the globe.
Is it really, though? Which other first-world country would you say is even remotely as far down the rabbit hole of idiocy as the USA?
Argentina, Brazil, Germany to an extent, France is flirting with it, Italy, the Netherlands (my country) is fucking around and finding out, Hungary has been at it since before it was cool, Indonesia elected a literal was criminal. And that’s all the cases I know about.
Did you forget about the previous Polish fascist piss government? Or Hungary, Italy, The Netherlands, and there’s probably more that I’m forgetting.
What lies. Trump was openly a piece of human shit and voters got what they voted for. The people that voted for him do get to take responsibility for the complete shit show we will experience going forward.
People didn't vote for Trump, they voted against Biden.
This chart might be a little bit out of date by this point, but the basic pattern it's pointing out is still pretty obvious
That's an extremely simplistic model, when in reality the way to fascism, is that the democracy fails to protect itself against it.
This happens easiest in new or flawed democracies, and USA is very much a flawed democracy. Where all the checks and balances don't work, when the executive branch is filled with corrupt traitors that don't give a shit about decency or democracy.
In a democracy the parlament can overthrow the government, and end its control with the equivalent of the executive branch.
AFAIK congress cannot overthrow a president for being unworthy or acting illegally.
Americans probably thought they were safe, because they have about 200 years of tradition for democracy, so they thought it was so ingrained that it couldn't fail, because the country is built on it, and the institutions would protect it.
in reality the way to fascism, is that the democracy fails to protect itself against it.
Yeah, uninspiring centrists don't like to do the whole protecting democracy thing because it might be controversial, so not really seeing your disagreement with this (admittedly simple and meme-ified) model

Couldn't agree more
AFAIK congress cannot overthrow a president for being unworthy or acting illegally.
It's called impeachment under our system, but I think that's a lot higher vote threshold than a general no confidence vote like what I think you're suggesting would be
And yeah, our legislature being filled with the same kind of corrupt traitors that don't give a shit about decency or democracy as our executive makes this essentially impossible
Americans probably thought they were safe, because they have about 200 years of tradition for democracy, so they thought it was so ingrained that it couldn't fail, because the country is built on it, and the institutions would protect it.
I would also blame the uninspiring centrists who didn't want to upset their potential voters by telling them the truth about the dire situation we were/are in. Everytime they brag about some bipartisan legislation like bipartisanship with fascists is a good thing the picture gets muddier for the average voter.
Well of course, because the only trait they were really interested in was that he wasn't the other guy.
Politics has become tribalist nonsense.
Did we though? There was a whole lot of legally cheating (gerrymandering, voter suppression, etc.) and maybe some not so legal cheating as well by his election and judge minions.
It should not have even been close. That is the problem.
It doesn't really matter imo, fascism is not something that necessarily gets voted in or out of power. Its a symptom of and reaction to systemic failures that attempts to preserve capitalism by whatever means necessary. It isn't something brought about by individuals or imposed upon the public.
They didn't vote for Trump, they vote for "whatever the liberals hate".
They don't care if they suffer too. They only want to watch the "others" hurt.
One of my favorite quotes is "A Republican would eat shit if they thought a liberal would have to smell their breath."
Traitors voted for Trump.
Because the average American is a moron.
Wrong, the average American is purposefully undereducated and sheltered from the world.
Reminder that everyone who didn't vote still bears responsibility: Not making a decision is still a decision.
Edit: Anyone who disagrees can eat all of my shit and hair. <3
No, no, you see, democracy means being blameless and without responsibility 😊
I Am Very Left
Never let them forget. They are not allowed to be upset or plead for sympathy!
Dems couldn't have run a worse campaign if they tried.
and people don't want to acknowledge that maybe they did, because "both sides" is a fucking meme to stop you from looking behind the curtain.
Americas owners got exactly what they paid for and the people think it was their idea.
Get rid of FPTP to open the door to third parties in the US.
If only there was someone who was running for President who was on a major party ticket and had an agenda that - for the most part - was supported by the majority of Americans.
I voted for her, FWIW. Most people here had to hold their noses to stoop to doing that, though.
There are zero excuses that anyone can use to claim that they didn't know what Trump was going to do or that it would be this bad. We lived through the first term where we saw the shit he was doing. We saw every tweet, post, and video where he said exactly what he wanted to do. Remember when he literally said he wanted to be a dictator? Yea, it was 100% out there the whole time. If that wasn't enough, every word out of his mouth has been hate directed at some demographic. Deciding that that was acceptable was already too much. I will never forgive anyone that voted for that Nazi.
They should have thought more about his agenda beyond nodding along to his lies before voting for him. Although most people under-anticipated the insanity that has come to transpire, arguably making Trump's first term look tame in comparison, any level-headed person should still have been able to recognize the dangers inherent to the right's extremist rhetoric before the election and voted against it.
Just goes to show how easily swayed so many social media addicted Americans are, and although many of them might not admit it, tolerant of xenophobia and transphobia to the point of seeking perceived short-term gains at the expense of the civil rights and wellbeing of millions of their fellow Americans.
He doesn't fucking care. The whole campaign was about doing and saying whatever was needed to get elected so that he could avoid lawsuits, make a profit, and dismantle government. Rich and powerful supported him because they saw ways for themselves to get more rich and more powerful. The richest man on the planet went all in, and now is personally helping to eliminate government agencies that were investigating his own businesses. They don't care that the public gets unhappy, they've served their purpose.
This isn't a surprise, it's their plan going as intended.
It's a surprise to the utter dipshits in the public, who thought either that he would MAKE AMERICA GREAT, or that things couldn't possibly get worse in these wretched United States of America, so it didn't matter if a fascist was elected.
They just couldn't vote for a black woman.
Fundamentally, if you voted for Trump you do support his agenda. That's how voting works.
You just don't want to own it.
