Damnit, I'm going to see this everywhere now, aren't I?

Is kerning the spacing between letters?

[-] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 10 months ago

Between any typographical characters, but yeah, basically 🙂

Thanks for making me one of the 10000 today

[-] MoreFPSmorebetter@lemmy.zip 39 points 10 months ago

I can't wait to ruin this for every single person I know going forward. Thanks!

[-] undeffeined@lemmy.ml 16 points 10 months ago

Oh wow, thats very interesting!

[-] Delzur@vegantheoryclub.org 7 points 10 months ago

Didn't see that coming. In retrospect, I should have noticed that a long time ago... Thanks for the info

[-] Kazumara@discuss.tchncs.de 6 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

Neat, the alive ones look way more similar to moths.

[-] bmpvy@feddit.org 6 points 10 months ago

i will never see butterfly depictions the same again

[-] samus12345@lemm.ee 165 points 10 months ago

I mean, they're still kinda goofy looking when alive.

[-] Agent641@lemmy.world 43 points 10 months ago

"Wait don't take the photo I'm not rea..."

[-] Zerush@lemmy.ml 65 points 10 months ago
[-] Hossenfeffer@feddit.uk 23 points 10 months ago

Can we. for once, not bring Trump into everything?

[-] samus12345@lemm.ee 40 points 10 months ago

But he's mentioned in the fish's name.

[-] samus12345@lemm.ee 10 points 10 months ago

He looked so much younger then.

[-] ILikeBoobies@lemmy.ca 6 points 10 months ago

Boris Johnson?

[-] ryannathans@aussie.zone 4 points 10 months ago

From the thumbnail I thought this was a naked ass

[-] sik0fewl@lemmy.ca 54 points 10 months ago

So I don't need to lose weight, I just need to live somewhere with 1,470 psi of pressure.

[-] ILikeBoobies@lemmy.ca 12 points 10 months ago

Then you need to gain bone structure

[-] Fandangalo@lemmy.world 44 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

Why not use both and turn it into a 2 panel meme?

Me when I have water

Me when I'm a human living in the modern world

[-] tigeruppercut@lemmy.zip 37 points 10 months ago

Aliens do an Earth drive by, use a tractor beam to yank a human specimen through the mesosphere, log the name of the species as blisterface and fly away.

[-] logicbomb@lemmy.world 36 points 10 months ago

The name information is incorrect.

Psychrolutes is the genus, not the species.

Psychrolutes is a genus of marine ray-finned fishes belonging to the family Psychrolutidae, the fatheads and toadfishes. [...] There are currently 11 recognized species in this genus

The binomial name of the blobfish is Psychrolutes marcidus. But realistically, "binomial name" is not always the same as "proper name". There are a lot of animals whose common names include misconceptions, or even insults. Just look at the information about Psychrolutidae (that's the Family) above. "Fatheads" sounds insulting, and "Toadfishes" aren't toads.

I wouldn't have even bothered looking this up, except that the artist wrote the "proper name" so poorly that I first read it as "Psychrd Lutes". And the second reading, I misread as "Psychiro Lutes", due to the weird "R" that looks like none of their other Rs. I read it correctly the third time, but I have to wonder at the wisdom of not writing it clearly when you're trying to emphasize how it is spelled.

But a photo of a normal-looking fish has extremely limited entertainment value.

[-] CassiniWarden@infosec.pub 30 points 10 months ago

How can it be in pain, and be a corpse?

[-] Maalus@lemmy.world 6 points 10 months ago

Those were its last words

[-] ninthant@lemmy.ca 20 points 10 months ago

This was news to me, thanks for sharing this OP.

Stardew valley lied to me!

[-] psx_crab@lemmy.zip 6 points 10 months ago

Stardew lied a lot lol. Starfruit for example, only looks like a star in cross section, but i guess the actual starfruit is hard to represent in pixel.

This is a "you" vs "the guy she tells you not to worry about" meme format

[-] milicent_bystandr@lemm.ee 20 points 10 months ago

Are you reading this, ConcernedApe??

[-] Stalinwolf@lemmy.ca 10 points 10 months ago

I feel like if there's anyone out there who would use this new information to make right by the Blobfish, it's him.

[-] RebekahWSD@lemmy.world 8 points 10 months ago

Maybe those blobfish are magic. I'll hope for them!

[-] WaitThisIsntReddit@lemmy.world 17 points 10 months ago

Makes you wonder if you're blobby because you're in the wrong environment.

[-] Opisek@lemmy.world 5 points 10 months ago

Perhaps I do belong isolated in the deep dark sea.

[-] Zerush@lemmy.ml 3 points 10 months ago

Good od Earthworm Jim....memories and RIP Shiny

[-] psx_crab@lemmy.zip 15 points 10 months ago

What worst, is i found the depiction in children's book. It's kinda sad the myth doesn't get corrected as much because people justify it as entire different thing.

[-] Zizzy@lemmy.blahaj.zone 15 points 10 months ago

I spread this information anytime I can find it to be relevant. This and the incorrect myths about goldfish memories and short lives are so annoying to me. I love my fish friends

[-] NocturnalMorning@lemmy.world 11 points 10 months ago

I had no idea, now I'm just sad.

[-] Imgonnatrythis@sh.itjust.works 10 points 10 months ago

So what's Ted Cruz's excuse for looking like figure A?

[-] exixx@lemmy.world 15 points 10 months ago

He decompressed. Clearly he was meant to be at the bottom of the ocean

[-] JokeDeity@lemm.ee 4 points 10 months ago

We can fix this.

[-] nilo@lemm.ee 9 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

I had no idea too but then came across a random Vox video about high pressure where they mentioned it.

I then did a little research and wrote the article below:

https://tohippo.com/the-blobfish-is-not-as-ugly-as-you-think/

[-] BaronessBarf@lemmygrad.ml 7 points 10 months ago

I wish people brought this energy to the meat industry

[-] bennypr0fane@discuss.tchncs.de 5 points 10 months ago

Source please or I'll stick to my previously unchallenged image of ugly blobfish
