Genuinely don’t know if I qualify. I tend to score pretty high on the tests because my brain “gets” the exact kind of logic they usually test. What is more important though is that the tests suck in so many ways that it makes the results basically useless. Also I have yet to meet anyone who brags about their IQ score who happens to be anyone worth knowing.

They’d need to pay me a lot of money to get me to even consider joining Mensa.

I mean… yes. Definitely yes to the impostor syndrome. But people thinking I had answers made me pay attention differently and made me work harder to understand stuff because people were counting on me to always know.

It was like having an accidental accountability buddy. I could be questioned on the testing material basically at any point in time. So I tried to always be ready.

Our cat is basically fearless and gets bored easily. We like closing doors in our house upstairs to keep the temperature of the house more stable. Naturally when she is in one of those rooms we don’t want to lock her in so we try to get her out. She made that into a game of chase combined with hide and seek. Eventually that grew into a game she’d initialize throughout the whole house where she’d randomly fake-lunge at us and then sprint off. Or she’d hide behind a corner to ambush us. Sometimes we’d chase her. At other times we’d run away and hide and she’d come to find us and once she found us she’d run away again.

Problem is we’d be done playing after 5 minutes. She’d want to go on for 30 minutes at least. Anyway, she doesn’t initialize anymore since we got her a kitty friend. Now she plays a similar game with him that will sometimes go on for an hour at a time.

When my best friend started crying hysterically and begging to sleep over at our place because she knew she’d be severely beaten at home that night (for losing a hat at school that day). Not only was she not allowed to sleep over, but I was told off for asking. They did nothing about the abuse she told us about.

If I hadn’t known then I’d have known 2 years after when she screamed at me for going out of my way to save a kitten.

There is at least 1 use case for it: some of the newer iPhones can shoot raw format video. Apple calls this ProRes. It is also possible to take those videos as large as 4K. This comes out to about 6GB per minute of video taken.

Imagine someone like a YouTuber decided to take a couple of 20-30 minute clips. Yeah, I wouldn’t want to wait for wireless transfer on that. Especially not if that is a regular thing someone does.

I understand what lentils and rice are good for, but what on earth did Ben do to deserve being cooked?

Yeah, I too just can’t unsee her influence in her work. I would have made a deliberate choice to no longer support her with my money, even if I could still enjoy HP. But it turns out my brain just won’t let me enjoy any of it anymore. Things I used to enjoy suddenly being almost revolting to me only ever happened to me with 3 different artists and she is one of them.

Couldn’t agree more. Those books were my safe space growing up. I miss being able to enjoy them. Sadly it doesn’t work that way for me anymore. They feel tainted and wrong to me now.

Eventually she noticed all of her children were pulling away. She had to go through a world full of pain to accept that her behavior might have something to do with it. I am still surprised that she even got to a point of accepting that. Whatever happens with your parents I hope you can find closure and happiness in your own way.

My Lemmy suggestions only got shadowbanned so far. Have they moved on to more radical action?

Makes sense. This is doing decades of damage. Plenty of past groundbreaking research came out of the US. But I get it. I wouldn’t want to move to the US either for very much the same reasons. Lack of affordable healthcare, lack of paid holidays and gun safety would be the main reasons. Lack of food regulation would also be a concern. And now the current regime and the way too large chunk of the population that still seems happy with it means we put even tourist travel plans to the US on hold. Too scary at the moment. Trying to help the best I can from here, but there’s only so much you can do at a distance.

Makes sense. I guess I can start off posting about my hobbies in places that are sort of related, even if it doesn’t quite fit entirely. Thanks for likely saving me some frustration.

And I’m ready for the Reddit breakup. I haven’t even received a warning or anything like that, but found out half of everything I ever did on there was shadow banned. I’m done giving that page my attention. Next step is removing all of my history so that my comments and posts that they deemed “wothy” don’t bring traffic to the site. If I can still be bothered after I’ll see how long it takes me to speed run a ban.
