Harr work is so crunchy right now. Currently rushing to publish some research paper. Very exciting but it always takes way more time than you plan for (even when you know it takes longer time than you plan for)

If you sent me a message and are wondering why I ghosted

ima catch up later in the week, I swear :<

I'm a huge believer in moving in together before marriage if at all possible. Would strongly strongly recommend. I had an experience many years ago with this, where I learned my partner and I worked great up to that level but not beyond it. Thank GOD we didn't get married before finding out.

Lots of people have that story where you have a friend you really like, and then you become roommates and they make you crazy. Imagine that but it's for life and also you make a kid with them so you're sorta trapped. Why would you put yourself through that without a trial period???

Heyyy! Conveniently, I've just updated the Switching Guide with our app recommendations for iOS and Android!

Hmmm probably worth investigating what the other country instances are doing with theirs! No question that it's succeeding for them. (I'll do a bit more legwork when time permits)

Might grill myself a steak tonight though, need something unhealthy in my life

I'm glad we could help! And I hope you find ways of enjoying the site and contributing if you can. Please do ping with feedback any time! (Though we won't always reply quickly, IRL is quite busy these days)

Hmm is it just me, or is there something wrong with our front page?

  • Some of the stories on my Active view are as much as four days old, even though there are tons of posts in New (and most of my Active is 2-4 days old)
  • The sitewide users per week and month seem to be stuck at 67, but I know for a fact there have been new active users. E.g. yesterday I had a comment thread with someone who registered a new account just 20 mins ago and commented, and the number didn't change in that time.
  • If others are seeing this too, I might try doing a reboot or something.

Ooh... that's weird. Good to know, thanks. I'll add something to the Switching to Lemmy guide

Oh yeah I looked into that.

  • Users-per-month is only the count of users who created lemmy accounts on monyet.cc.
  • Registered users includes users who have visited from federated sites. I'm not sure what triggers the "registration" - I suspect just viewing one of our subs is enough, since we aren't seeing any major volume of upvotes or subscriptions
  • For our first day we also had a problem with someone running a bot account creation script. I added a captcha and it went away. At some point I'll probably purge these. (Not sure how many)

You can see the federated users in per-community subscription counts btw, e.g. !cafe is in the 80+ users.

Thanks for asking! :) In general, I'd prefer that users act as if there are no resource limitations. It's our job on the backend side to manage the implications of this. In the short term this isn't using up enough to be a huge worry. In the long term, lemmy should improve and make it easy for us to manage this.
