A lot of men like to justify their shallowness by imagining that women are just as shallow in order to justify it.

[-] EmoThugInMyPhase@hexbear.net 33 points 10 months ago

The Jordan Peterson sub is particularly funny. Some of them do achieve wealthy status, get all the expensive clothes and cars, then make posts asking why women don't want to talk to them despite obtaining "everything" they want. And then JP adjacent people on twitter are flabbergasted when some hot woman dates a guy who isn't rich nor a catwalk model and try to philosophize "there's something going on with women...."

I remember seeing many arguments that it's better to take advice on "getting women" from men who get a lot of women than from actual women. The irony is lost on them

everyone’s “shallow”, people are attracted to more (conventionally) attractive people

[-] AutomatedPossum@hexbear.net 20 points 10 months ago

Not everyone's attracted to the same things, not everyone is primarily attracted to physical features, not everyone is even allosexual in the first place, please pull your head out of your ass and realize that not everybody see the world like an average cishet dude, you mansplaining dingus.

[-] Tunnelvision@hexbear.net 15 points 10 months ago

Most people are attracted to conventionally attractive people, but what is considered attractive is actually pretty wide and deep when you start to ask around.

[-] ashinadash@hexbear.net 11 points 10 months ago

"Conventional" "attractiveness" is for losers imo

[-] HexbearGPT@hexbear.net 9 points 10 months ago

have you seen instagram influencers? they are.

[-] Dirt_Owl@hexbear.net 40 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

I feel like influencers are less than 1% of the population. Besides you're talking about a job that attracts shallow people specifically.

[-] dependencyinjection@discuss.tchncs.de 24 points 10 months ago

As the other person says, everybody ain’t an influencer.

Perhaps, you should get off Instagram and interact with regular people and not vapid influencers.

[-] HexbearGPT@hexbear.net 2 points 10 months ago

i'm not on instagram. but everyone else seems to be.

i'm not attractive. my brother is. when we walk around together girls look at him. they never look at me. it's ok i am married to an awesome lady. but it's pretty obvious that girls like hot guys just as much as guys like hot girls. and that everyone just settles for what is obtainable at the end of the day.

what most people do is find someone with a personality they can tolerate who is as hot as they can attract to themselves.

there is such a thing as pretty privilege.

Hot is subjective my guy.

There are as many girls that are not as you described there. You just have to look in different places.

[-] HexbearGPT@hexbear.net 3 points 10 months ago

hot is subjective but there are general trends among large majoritires of men and women of who they consider attractive.

[-] infuziSporg@hexbear.net 2 points 10 months ago

Some years back a friend of mine proposed a model where there are various different aggregates of personality and physical traits. Within each type, people see what confirms their preferences or dispositions to be "hot", and what goes against these concepts to be "not hot". As a result, there's a consistent clustering of people, and a symmetry in how they order each other, where if you see people in cluster A as a 9, it'll look like hot people getting with hot people, while people in cluster B might each see the cluster A people as a 2 and vice versa. Relativism of attraction with consistency.

[-] HexbearGPT@hexbear.net 1 points 10 months ago

that sounds smart.

i am trapped inside of my own subjectivity.

[-] ashinadash@hexbear.net 4 points 10 months ago

have you seen instagram influencers?

Imagine going on instagram. Literally who?

[-] HexbearGPT@hexbear.net 2 points 10 months ago

i don't use instagram but i still know what an instagram influencer is.

[-] ashinadash@hexbear.net 3 points 10 months ago

Cognitohazard!

[-] FourteenEyes@hexbear.net 3 points 10 months ago

I mean there's all sorts of people out there, some women are in fact incredibly shallow. So are some men. Realizing that genders aren't monolithic beings that you interact with identical avatars of is probably the first lesson these losers should be taking to heart. Another one is that other people being shitty doesn't justify doing so yourself. It's a pathetic cope for sure.

[-] Dirt_Owl@hexbear.net 5 points 10 months ago

Oh, of course, gender is bullshit.

I was more talking about socialisation. Men aren't naturally more shallow than women, but they are socialised to commodify them. "Society says you've made it if you have this house, this car, this type of woman." So a lot of them end up objectifying women they same way they would a car, as a product to indicate wealth.

It's the exact conditioning grifters like Jordan Peterson tap into.
