An amazing but rarely used strategy is to split the protests into several smaller areas. It's way harder to kettle smaller groups, especially if the cops are split between 4+ locations.

Gaetz bowed out himself, I assume because he thought his ethics investigation would be released if he went to the congressional hearings.

That is an extremely funny (and possibly helpful to Palestine) result of the Biden regime's cynical ploy.

WASHINGTON — Vivek Ramaswamy and Elon Musk's new effort to increase government efficiency could initially target the nearly two-thirds of federal workers who are still approved to work from home 18 months after the pandemic ended.

Vacant federal office space in downtown Washington is costly to maintain and a deep source of frustration to Mayor Muriel Bowser. She told reporters last week that she had requested a meeting with President-elect Donald Trump and that top on her agenda is pushing federal workers to return to downtown Washington.

“How we can make sure that our federal workforce is back to work is one big thing,” Bowser said, adding that she wants a partnership with the federal government to bring “vibrancy back to our town.”

According to the Office of Management and Budget, telework-eligible federal workers are in the office 60% of the time and about 10% of all workers are fully remote. All told, the U.S. has roughly 2.2 million federal workers. After Trump's election victory, Ramaswamy told Tucker Carlson that he wanted to take a “jackhammer and a chain saw” to the federal government, starting by forcing civil servants to return to work.

“They don’t go to work,” he said. “You don’t even have to talk about you’re in a mass firing, a mass exodus. Just tell them they have to come back five days a week from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.”

Ramaswamy predicted that would lead to a “25% thinning out of the federal bureaucracy right there.” Jacqueline Simon, policy director for the American Federation of Government Employees, the union that represents more than 700,000 workers, said more than half of federal jobs don’t qualify for working from home. She also argued that Ramaswamy and Musk’s claims are exaggerated.

“This includes all the health care workers at VA hospitals and clinics and corrections officers at the Bureau of Prisons," she told NBC News. "And Border Patrol agents and federal air marshals and people who inspect slaughterhouses and meat processing plants."

With fewer people in the office, the cost of excess federal office space has become a concern. Last year, the Government Accountability Office concluded that 17 of the 24 largest federal agencies used on average only 25% of their office space.

Kamil Krzaczynski / AFP - Getty Images For the Education Department, which is at the top of Musk and Ramaswamy’s list for elimination, the use rate was even lower, at 16%.

As of August, 98% of Education Department employees were eligible to work from home and more than half were working remotely, according to the OMB. One of the agencies with the lowest office use rates, only 9%, was the federal government’s human resources agency, the Office of Personnel Management.

Simon said allowing some workers to partially work from home helps the federal government recruit and retain a talented workforce that, despite lower pay, has to compete with the private sector.

In August 2023, in a push to get civil servants back in the office, President Joe Biden required all federal workers to spend at least half of every two-week pay period in the office. Ironically, the federal government encouraged working from home long before the coronavirus pandemic. After the 9/11 attack in 2001, President George W. Bush saw it as a way to ensure workers could stay online and work during emergencies.

In 2004, a little over 750,000 federal workers were eligible to work from home. Since then, the figure has nearly doubled to 1.3 million.

I actually looked up an archive link. Trump's first DOJ started this lawsuit, so potentially this could actually happen.

I do think that Google is so uniquely powerful that selling off Chrome to someone else is a net positive. It won't make Google search lose its status as top search engine for a while.

Stripping Chrome for parts would be better, but this is significant.

Trump's DOJ probably reverses this request in 30 seconds. I doubt this happens within two months.

The iron absorption of lentils isn't great, though... but I'm trying to think of ways to increase my iron intake because mine is low.

The hardest thing is that you have to soak the lentils overnight. And you will need a blender or food processor. The best part is it's high in protein.

In 5 to 15 years, Russian :gamer:s could have a portable console.

No paywall. Lots of glib jokes about the russia-ukraine war and balconies in the article though.

It's 2034, on the morning of January 25th in New York City. I wake up, roll out of bed and quietly open the window to let the 70 degree dirty air inside without waking my 7 roommates (all sleeping in here with me, of course). Then I check my VR glasses to see where the cheapest Wendy's breakfast sandwich surge pricing is and put it in Googazon Maps. The subway was abolished in 2028, but the cheap Wendy's today is only a 40 minute detour from my car commute to Manhattan. I have to take a second detour around the Bronx because the levies broke again today. I catch a morning war report from President Hunter Brandon's State Department to make sure the highway wasn't bombed by American Zionist drone strikes.

The rest of this story has been in the hexbear megathreads, but I'll probably compile it into a post someday. It's mostly me using facts and logic, along with ethos and pathos and Norm Finkelstein's book Gaza to convince them that Israel is a genocidal ethnostate.

Report: February 26th 2024

I am still continuing to radicalize my parents on Israel/Palestine as often as I can get away with. Today, I explained to them what white phosphorous is and how often Israel is using it. And where it is manufactured (it's the USA, folks, in good old St Louis, MO).

If you don't know already, white phosphorous is

NSFL description of a banned weapon that Israel uses weeklythis sticky goo that bursts into flame on contact with the air, then it burns the skin of the victims and poisons you by entering the holes that just burned up, causing liver damage and eventually multiple organ failure.
Also mentioned that Israel destroyed nearly every hospital in Gaza, so no treatment for those women and children burned with chemical weapons.

My mom searched "white phosphorus israel" and saw that Israel did a white phosphorus attack on a Jabalia refugee camp on October 31, killing 195+ civilians (they're all civilians, it's a FUCKING REFUGEE CAMP).

Source here, debate perverts: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/31_October_2023_Jabalia_refugee_camp_airstrike

I asked my dad "What you are supposed to do when evil wins and your country is funding it?" (Thanks JT for the excellent framing device). He had a long think about that one.

Is it terminal? /joke

Ok, but real talk, having gym buddies and a gym where people talk to each other, a sex life with fwbs that are actually friendly, and getting exercise has all added up to making me not?!? Depressed?!?! For the first time in at least a decade. I'm tapering my anti depressants, and it's still okay so far (I might stick with my current lower dose for a while).

I feel unleashed. I feel type-A. I feel like I can actually achieve something if I put in daily effort. I have a fucking to-do list and I'm checking shit off DAILY.

ADHD meds are helping more in combination with having a workout routine. I'm noticeably less effective without it, but I'm being prescribed so I have plenty.

But also, like... I'm shooting the shit with people better than I ever have, getting peoples numbers and making plans to hang out (might fuck around and go for a hike with a new gym buddy this weekend).

I feel good randomly right now (hard conditioning workout and a big meal in the last 4 hours). That never fucking happened last year.

Exercise and community, folks, can't recommend it enough.
