Same. Always been a true night owl. I say true because most people think, "oh, goes to bed very late, like 4am." But for me, I naturally wake up at 8pm to 9pm. I go to sleep close to 1pm.
The world is nicer at nights as long as you are in a generally safe quiet area. Gives me time to study, read, exercise, etc. without interruptions in peace. Now if only there were stationary jobs other than Hotel Night Auditor that existed for people who naturally gravitate towards that sleep schedule.
I tried out Bluesky briefly before it was announced they received major funding from a crypto bro. Deleted my account instantly.
I was never on twitter, so I have no point of reference on how it compares. I will say I liked how much easier it was to find artists on Bluesky than on Mastodon, but the algorithm also sent me a bunch of random stuff I wasn't interested in.
I'll say I'm glad people are migrating away from twitter. I know it'd be highly preferable if they moved to mastodon or some other federated platform, but if your sign up process involves instances, or you don't have a sophisticated, privacy invading algorithm dictating everything you consume, it seems most people don't want it.
But hey, any effort to bury Musk's "I'm A Big Boy Now" App is an effort I can applaude for now.
Bring back your Advocacy division. Lower the pay for your CEO. Secure funding from other entities so that you are no longer dependent on Google. Focus more on implementing better security measures on Linux and Android, specifically within the domain of sandboxing your open processes. Keep about:config and manifest v2 options available.
Ah yes, King Vance. That's not unsettling at all /s.
Same. Best Game Series and storytelling Telltale has ever done.
Rittenhouse has a hero complex, and can't accept he's nothing more than a deranged little shithead everyone knows is just a murderer that got away with it.
No one likes him, not even the right. The right used him when he was useful and then threw him away. How sad and pathetic that those were his "best" days, and they are behind him.
He'll now try to regain his "glory" days by reliving that time he murdered innocent people. And hopefully this time he's put away for life.
"You will not replace us!" shouted the white supremacists after centuries of erasing a multitude of other cultures, histories, and societies.
I've posted this elsewhere, but it bears repeating:
Just use ddg bangs if you use Duckduckgo and you can search reddit directly.
!reddit search term
or:
!r search term
It still picks up latest posts related to reddit, it just searches reddit directly instead of searching Bing's results. It's that simple.
You can even use a redirect extension like Libredirect in conjunction with this Duckduckgo feature to redirect your search to a privacy respecting frontend like redlib.
Let the infinite forking on infinite platforms commence.
Look, the people over at Wayland made a solid protocol, sure. But for all the time and effort they've put into getting it to the state it's in today, it's going to take a long while for all the apps, DEs, and TWMs to be ready. It took so long for the Linux desktop to get to the state it is on X11, which, for all it's flaws, seems to be easier to develop for than Wayland.
Wacom Drivers, Nvidia Drivers, DE-Agnostic screensharing, screenshot, eyedropper tools are all in various states of not working/sort of working/working on wayland. This simply isn't the case with X11. They all just work. That's kind of a big win for X11 over Wayland.
It doesn't matter how light weight and more secure your protocol is if you can't use the tools you need to get the jobs you need done, whatever those jobs are. That is literally what computers are for at the end of the day, not to lord our superiority over others because our choice of tools are somehow better.
Yes Wayland is the future, but to say "Wayland is ready" while also saying "many of the apps for Wayland are not ready" ends up meaning that wayland is NOT ready.
Until the transition between X and Wayland is seamless (no adjusting environment variables), saying we should all just move to Wayland cuz ”is the future" are engaging in the same FOMO tactics that crytpo and AI bros have been doing for years. Fuck that noise.
You are not somehow better because you use Wayland. And yeah yeah, shots fired, down votes incoming. Come at me tech daddy.
I love the Cyberpunk 2077 universe. Ive played the TTRPG, the Game from CD Project Red, and loved the anime. But no way in hell would I want to actually live in Night City...
Cyberpunk 2077, the video game, is a great story partially because Night City is practically more a character than a setting. It consumes and shits out all who are bold or stupid enough to think they can make it there.
The person romanticizing their world has somehow missed every theme of the story. Immortality is only achievable by sacrificing every last bit of your humanity through either replacing every part of your body with chrome (Smasher), or through horrific body snatching tech (Soulkiller).
Illness does exist in Cyberpunk, many characters through the story refer to their sick relatives. V themself is portrayed as being sick after installing Soulkiller after the Arasaka heist with Jackie. Indeed, Soulkiller is portrayed like a high tech, fast acting cancer.
The world in Cyberpunk reflects a kind of criticism of capitalism in showing us how excessive the divides in economic and power dynamics can become if capitalism is left to rule unchecked by governmental power (i have not yet played phantom liberty, which I assume addresses in part the corrupted and futile attempts to restore governmental agency in a world that long has handed off the reigns to unfettered capitalists).
The characters generally live in squalor. Vs initial apartment is little more than a glorified closet in a bleak concrete monolith. Quality Health care is only available to those that can afford an ultra Premium plan, executed by a Military Style Medical Corporation. Otherwise, you're lucky if your loved ones' ashes are dispensed via a Vending Machine, as seen in the anime Edgerunners.
Again, love the game, love the anime and TTRPG. NEVER in a million years would I want to live in that universe... unless maybe it was a choice between there and literal Hell, cuz at that point the line of difference befween them starts to blur...and they end up looking the same.
